On March 20th we all flew from Vancouver to Mexico then from Mexico to Costa Rica with absolutely no issues. Near the end of the trip a few days before we had to leave I kept getting emails from aero mexico asking if I wanted to upgrade my tickets and to pay more to be first class. I wasn’t interested in paying more so I ignored the emails. The day before our flight I went on aero mexicos website and checked all 3 of us in right when I knew it was 24 hours before the flight. I then had all 3 boarding passes emailed to me. The next day (Apr. 1st) we arrived to the airport, I needed to check my luggage so we went to the counter, when the lady grabbed our passports and checked on her computer she then tells us that our tickets have been cancelled. We asked why and she said that aero mexico was doing an investigation on the website we purchased the tickets from for fraud. While this was happening the same thing was happening to the people next to us. We then found out that this was actually happening to a lot of people that day and when we spoke to one guy he said he purchased his tickets off expedia and they were still telling him the same thing. The only help the people at the counters gave was a little paper with an email to aero mexico support, when we emailed them we then received an email back saying they are receiving an unusual high volume of messages and that are response would take a little longer. We had no other choice and were coerced into paying for new tickets just to get our selves back home and the new tickets were much more expensive, I had to pay $4,150.17 on my visa. And not only that but we were all separated, me and my friend flew the next day and my boyfriend flew the day after that. Thankfully I have family in Costa Rica because we would have had to pay more in hotels. When I got home I made a few calls to visa and flights channel, flights channel told me that they had already paid aero mexico back in January and that if they were fraud then how were we able to fly to costa rica, flights channel even sent me an email showing proof the money was sent. So aero mexico made us believe the website was fraudulent but in reality from what it looks like they did this to many people to get more money. When aero mexico finally emailed us back (after calling them multiple times to respond and it was already the end of the month) in the email they basically said there was nothing they could do, there was absolutely no update on the investigation they said they were doing, they didn’t seem to care about what we went through because they didn’t offer us any compensation or refund. And now they are ignoring my emails.
I truly believe that aero mexico is scamming many people trying to take us much money as they can starting with trying to get people to upgrade then canceling their tickets targeting ones who bought their tickets off a different website than aero mexicos website so they can just say they are investigating the websites for fraud, and canceling the tickets while they are in a different country than their own so they have no choice but to buy new tickets to get home and over charging people for those tickets.
When I talked to visa they were able to refund me half of the original tickets but they said they aren’t able to do anything about what aero mexico has done. But they did recommend I get in touch with you guys and explain our situation. I’m not sure what you guys can do but if you can let me know that would be great. Thank you
