Xenweddings.com Reports & Reviews (1)

- San Diego, CA, USA

I am planning my wedding and was looking for a Videographer. I found XEN Weddings through WeddingWire.com. At the time, in October 2023 I noted most of their social media accounts and reviews online (Wedding Wire, Zola, The Knot, Instagram, Facebook) were recently created in September - although this seemed odd they explained that they were a husband and wife duo who were had over 10 years of experience doing freelance work for other companies and were just starting out on their own. We communicated initially though the WeddingWire site then directly through email. They offered a discount and offered an additional hour of video coverage to pay in full upfront. They used a platform called 17Hats for us to sign our contract and pay via credit card through. This did seem professional and legitimate - however if I got back to access this contract now, it has been deleted. I had tried calling the phone number listed on their site and it had been disconnected. They told me via email that they were updating their phone system and provided me with a new number. This new number (855-593-6933) did ring to a voicemail that stated it was the voicemail of XEN Weddings which eased my concern. About a month after signing contract and paying $1,000 we recieved an email from them stating that their "CRM Software" had accidentally refunded us our payment and to please check our account. We were not refunded. I told them this and never heard back. A few weeks ago I sent a follow up email inquiring that our payment was all set. We asked them to call us and called and left them multiple messages with no response other than them repeating via email to not worry. They, in short, told me that I was refunded but they still planned to provide services to us. At this point I felt alarmed and started checking their social media accounts. At this point there were more posts and reviews than when we hired them. Many posts appeared stolen from other sites, social medial followers appeared to be bots, and this leads me to believe that the few 5 star reviews left on their wedding sites were likely fabricated by them. I did find one comment on Instagram from another videographer stating that they owed him money for a wedding he shot for them and if they were ever planning to pay him. His Instagram account is golden_state_pictures. I contacted him via Instagram to ask his experience with XEN weddings. He informed me that he had never met them in person but that he did a job for them and they owe him $600, another photographer $450 and has heard that they have been scamming other videographers and not paying them. He says they have blocked him on all social media and have threatened legal action against him. As far as I can tell the scam is that they take money from clients, string them along until the event then state they can not make it last minute, find someone to fill in for them and then keep the client money without ever paying the replacement videographer. We have contacted out credit card company (Fidelity) and will be refunded through them. They plan to investigate further. I have also reported them as fraudulent to Wedding Wire, The Knot, Zola, Instagram and Facebook. Since making these reports many of their pages no longer exist or they have blocked me on the social media accounts. Hoping to prevent future couples and videographers for being victimized by this scam.
