Type of a scam Tech Support
I was on the Internet, when a pop up came on my screen with a loud alarm, stating my computer has a virus and urgent to call immediately to avoid computer crashing. Tried to shut down computer and was not able to do. Panicked I called the number thinking it was legit and affiliated with my computer service. Tech on the line told me I had 143 viruses and was hacked from someone in Dayton, Oh. That I needed to have viruses cleared immediately, that the hacker had all access to my system and accounts. I agreed to service and was told there were charges to do so. Not knowing what else to do I agreed and paid with my credit card. They misled you and get you to say the word yes, and this is what is recorded but nothing else in between is recorded. They only have selective recording. All in all, this turned out to be a scam and I was misled. They got access to my computer as they walked me through the process. I realized at the end they had deleted my current Anti-virus and other programs and entered their programs. The next day I took my computer into Best Buy, where I had Geek Squad coverage, they said yes, I did have mal-ware on my computer. I tried to stop payment on credit card, but charges were already on the card. I had to have my computer serviced, spent half the day calling all my accounts and changing account numbers, so they wouldn't have access. Today I called the company and said I wanted a full refund, since they have a 30 day money back guarantee. The Co. proceeded to tell me they were not a scam co. I told them everything that happened (and in a very stern voice), and that It was a scam and that is FRAUD!. The representative said" would I agree to a $69.99 charge since the tech did work on the computer", I said NO, I want a full refund. She agreed to remove the program and I would receive a full credit to my card and I would receive in 7-10 business days. I will see, if not I'm filing a complaint against them. Hope this is of help to other.
