I accepted and offer for a position and I have a check to purchase equipment with but the company wants me to deposit into my checking account. I tried to Zoom video chat and the person decline the call. I do not want to put the money into a checking account and have it bounce. I called the bank that the check is off of and they refuse to verify it the funds are there. I do not want to open and checking account and then purchase the equipment to have the money get refused after everything has been purchase for the position.

I received a text message from Marcus Jones from Egis Pharmaceuticals PLC offering me a work at home job. I was told that I would do an online interview with a recruiter named Anna B Mata. I was then directed to Zoom to do an online meeting that took place by text. I was asked general interview questions and given information about potential job opportunities. They listed they where hiring 16 people in the US as this was a company based in Budapest Hungry and they where expanding to the US and Canada. They needed a 1000 employees before they could open a US location. They offered me a job right away after completing the interview and wanted to confirm my contact information. They also said I would need to setup a home office and I would be sent a check to use for expenses. I would need to buy a laptop and various software packages to be ready to start work by Friday. I also received an offer letter with an authorization request for a background check and a w-4 form to fill out for payroll. No official company website was used to create a profile and I cannot confirm that this Anna person works for this company. I also found that this company isn’t even hiring right now. Also in the offer letter it says I would work directly under her and not someone from the home office. I did give my name and address and phone number but stopped there once I was told they where going to send funds for me to make purchases.

Randomly contacted for a supposed "interview" for an account manager role w/ Connect KC. Only thing, I know people who work there and that's not an agency. First red flag. Next thing, they setup the interview for Sept. 4. 2023 - Labor Day. Second Red Flag. When I asked them questions about why I couldn't find any information about them, they wanted me to supply my email address... even though they supposedly got my info from my resume, which has my email address on it. Third and final. I never made it to their "interview" as I figured it would probably be some sort of scam so I didn't even click on their zoom link at the time designated. I hate that this is what's happening because I'm sure some unsuspecting pleb will get this message and think things are on the up and up, only to be looking for work and now have more issues because you'll be defrauded in some way on top of that.

Description

I got a text from "Simone Araujo" about a "Job" with the company of Trip.com Group. Offering $35 a hour. I was asked a few questions and then told to get on Skype to talk to the Hiring Manager "Mr. Conner". So to Skype I went where I was Welcomed to Trip.com Group and asked more questions but doing an interview through Skype messaging and not a virtual or over the telephone interview. Should have been my first clue. In my Joy, Excitement, something like that I didn't really think about how odd it was. I was told that I would be receiving a check to pay for the Software with $150 sign-on bonus. Again I was not thinking about how odd this interaction was. I then received an email from a "Stella Huang" with the job offer that I was to sign and email back to them. So again not thinking I signed it and emailed it back to them. I received a check for $998.55 and was told to wait until the following morning to deposit the check. Luckily a few of my friends told me that they thought it was a scam. I did some research on the "company" and found that while Trip.com Group is real I've decided not to deposit the check. I had also received a copy of their "Employee Handbook" what should've been another is that there were typos, run-on sentences, and missing words.
