Received a call from "DocuProcess" (910-828-8165) with instructions to call 1-866-703-0184 with a reference number. They said this was ABA Process Service in Arizona. When I called the number, the representative told me that HSBC bank had attempted to serve me a summons for a Civil Judgement but that no one was home to sign for it. They stated I owed $9,843.34 in interest to an old HSBC account and they were going to take me to court if I did not pay them at least 40% of the owed amount which was $4,372.09. He needed me to pay it right then. When I asked for time to verify, he began to get pushy and angry and demanded I pay or HSBC was going to come repossess my car. He already had the last 4 digits of my Social Security Number and the make/model/year of my car. I did not give it to him, he gave the information to me. When I spoke to someone else, they gave me an old address and said the account was active from 2012-2016. I did not live at that address for that entire time. The already had my current address as well. They left my husband a voicemail requesting I call them as well. Red flags that I should have picked up on: they used a "third party" to "make sure I got their message"-why did they not just call me themselves, they demanded immediate payment, they got angry when I needed time to verify their claim. I should have hung up immediately.
