Not knowing that the ticket was actually $1511.86, then the client got two charges on their credit card - one for $1511.86 (a legitimate ticket) and $780 (the scammers take, described as taxes and fees). The scammers masquerade as a legitimate travel agency even with an IATA number on the confirmation of 6619991 (which doesn't exist). They make a booking via an online consumer portal and put in their email address, in this case [email protected] so they will get an email if anyone tried to change the booking. Since they now know the passport name, date of birth, cell phone and email of the actual person, they can continue to have access to the record. Once the charges are reversed from the credit card company, they will start to threaten. In another case of the same type of fraud last summer, the scammers went so far as to say they would report the travellers to TSA (which was so laughable) I have phoned this number today and got two different people . One said they were located in an office in Delaware airport and the second said they were in New York but there was an office in Toronto.
A legitimate airline never answers on the first ring. Hopefully this post saves someone else from the same hassle
