Better Business Bureau - IMPOSTER Reports & Reviews (98)

- Oakley, CA, USA

I was contacted by someone on the phone claiming to be from the Better Business Bureau, stating they we had been scammed by a computer tech business in the past and they were going to give me a refund. I was very skeptical but did do what they asked me to do on my laptop. They would tell me that it was illegal for them to take control of my computer but I could see the mouse moving around to do commands, when I asked them about this they said it was an automated program by Microsoft. While I was talking to them I got on my tablet and typed in Google "Better Business Bureau scam my computer tech". It did come up so while I was talking to this man I took the battery out of my laptop and told him that our conversation was done that I checked and found out I was being scammed. He asked me if I had touched my computer, when he realized he no longer had control over my computer he told me it was to late that they had already gotten all my passwords & info they needed from my computer. I hung up the phone and immediately called our bank putting a stop on any internet access to our account. I was advised to come down and close all accounts, get new atm & credit cards. Also to have my computer checked for malicious software they had added. What a pain, but I was the stupid one who let them have remote access to my laptop. Now I have to set all new passwords. On my computer.

A man called saying he was with the better business bureau and I won something. then I cut him off, telling him I"m with the bbb (even though I'm not). Then he got mad and started swearing. then he thought I hung up and was talking to someone and said, "did I screw that up"? He did call back and then he said he was going to bomb my house and *** my daughters. then I hung up again!

This person by the name of Heather, is calling my business stating she’s from bbb, and that there is complaints on my business and to give her my business license and to pay for the complaints, then calls me back stating she would like a movers to assist her, please be aware..

The man who scam me said I was gonna get arrested if i don't pay him the money, he had all my information and everything he told me I was gonna get money if I paid it and he used your company to do this

We have been called multiple times from this number claiming to be the Better Business Bureau and asking if we are moving, we tell them no thanks, answer politely, they come back rudely and even told one of our customer service reps to go to Hell because we were not getting them the information that they wanted.

On Friday, 4/5/19, I received a voicemail from someone stating that she was Allison Marie. Here is the transcript that I received "Yes, this is the Better Business Bureau. My name is Allison Marie. This message is for the owner of the company. Please return my call at 443-233-6162. Today is Friday, April 5th. I am in the office until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. We are calling regarding reporting information. 443-233-6162."

My business has an address in Oakland, MD. So, this is the zip code that I am using. I emailed the ScamPulse.com Office of Metro Washington, DC. This was the latest response. "That is this ScamPulse.com https://www.bbb.org/local-bbb/bbb-of-greater-maryland. I did see these following numbers for them listed on the site. Not that number but numbers that match what you gave https://www.bbb.org/greater-maryland/get-to-know-us/about-us/key-staff/. I can tell you as a whole, that ScamPulse.com has sales Rep who reach out to businesses regarding membership. That is why you may have received a call from the ScamPulse.com or if you filed a complaint and the handler maybe needed more info regarding that complaint. I do apologize but that is all the information I can give you right now pertaining to this number.

Sincerely,

ScamPulse.com Customer Service Team"

I still did not feel comfortable. So, I contacted the Maryland office and spoke with Shanika ***, Accredited Business Services Specialist, 410-347-5641. She confirmed that there was no one by the name of Allison Marie at their office. I asked Shanika for a place to report this incident and wanted to share with you.

I received a call from somebody claiming to be with the ScamPulse.com. They gave a name, but I wasn't able to understand, as the connection was very poor. He informed me that one of my cards (without providing any portion of the card number) had been charged over $500 from overseas. The person called me from two phones, the numbers being 650-731-7844 and 844-850-9552. With him still on the line, I checked my accounts on my bank's website and advised him that I didn't see any charge; his excuse was that the charges had not been authorized yet. I took time during the call to look up scams like this, and lo and behold, there is a report on the BBB website detailing situations like mine to a T. I told him that I suspected that he was scamming me and asked him to provide proof that he wasn't. In response, he ended the call.

I called him back at both numbers several times and managed to reach him. When I introduced myself, he hung up. I believe his direct number is 650-731-7844.

Consumer received a call from a person who stated they worked for the BBB and the phone number came up as it was registered to the Federal Government. They are unsure as to if it was a man or a woman, it did not appear that English was their first language.

Woman with perhaps an Indian accent claimed to be from the BBB regarding a new law regarding a "Flat Rate Fee" for credit card transactions. When asked why someone from Atlantic City, NJ is calling rather than our local office she said "they're handling the territory". She then asked for email address and full name - I hung up.

I then tried to contact the local BBB number but no one picked up and I was disconnected.

When the number was searched on Google, there were multiple claims of the number as a known scam number.

I received a call from David Sears, who stated that he is with the ScamPulse.com and that won 555,000 and a car and all I had to do was pay a 1% luxury tax. He then my supervisor Bob Walters will be calling with more information. We then ended the call. I received a call from David Sears again, this time he stated he was with Publishers Clearing House. He said that I won 555,000 and a new car and he wanted to ask me some questions. He then asked for my phone number and address. I asked for what, he said to bring me my money. He said he would call back. I then received a call from Bob Walter (who sounded just like David). Bob Walters stated the same thing and that I needed to pay the luxury tax. They stated it was 1% but wanted 2500. I said I can afford that, they dropped it to 700. I told them I cannot afford it. David has called numerous times to try to collect the money.
