I received a call at my place of employment from Kevin Jones with Bryan Kabe Law Firm; 347-809-3164. As we started the conversation I told him he was calling my place of employment and asked for his information so I could call him back, and told him never to call my place of employment again. I took down his name and number and returned the call from my cell phone. In the background, when he answered the phone, I could hear others talking and what sounded like a television. Mr. Jones had a heavy foreign accent. He asked for my attorney's information. I told him I did not have an attorney and he asked if I was aware of the case filed against me...I replied I was not. Mr. Jones then informed me that he would read the affidavit to me and I was not to interrupt him while he was reading it to me. Basically he told me that I had 3 charges against me that would be filed in court on the following day and that the charges were from a payday loan that I had taken out with Advance America for $689.00 and that if I didn't pay that amount that it would cost me $5,484.87 of court costs. He also informed me that my social security number would be flagged and I would not be eligible for any social security benefits ever again, disability, unemployment, etc., and that my salary would be garnished. When I asked for the date that I supposedly took out this payday loan Mr. Jones could not give me that information and quickly said I could not get that information until after the warrant was served.
