CTS Corporation Remote Job
Tips no one asked for: •look up their number on cashapp or Venmo before responding. If they have an account you should see who they are if not, that’s a red flag.
•give them a backup email instead of the real one
•bad grammar is always a red flag

Almost immediately I was contacted by Skype by someone who introduced themself as Mrs. Janet Cooker from the HR department of CTS Corporation. This person told me a little about the positions available (there were several listed; Data Entry, Administrative Assistant, or Customer Service.) and asked which I would be most interested in. They asked about my experience working and interviewing remotely as well as my work experience. They wanted to know if I had experience working with Petty Cash and Confidentiality Codes.
They told me they needed a moment to review my responses with the board and would confirm the results in about 20 minutes.
(Some of the questions seemed odd so I spent the 20 minutes searching online for any info on the company and any potential scams. It is a real company and I didn’t see any scams listed that matched. I read up on spotting scams and red flags… so far it didn’t match up) They returned and offered me the job. Then they asked for which mobile service and bank I use. I declined the option for direct deposit because I didn’t want to share account information with them. They said they didn’t want or need my account number, only the name of the bank.
They wanted to email me a check to print and deposit by mobile deposit. The check was to buy the proper work equipment at one of their approved vendors.
They congratulated me again and asked that I come back to the Skype meeting the following morning at 8am to discuss next steps.
Almost immediately after depositing the check, my bank froze my account until I could come into a branch.
This morning, “Janet” messaged me and asked if the funds had cleared yet so we could coordinate ordering my equipment. I confirmed that my account was frozen and that I would review what had happened at my bank.
I went into the bank and was informed that the check was fraudulent.
I tried hard to be smart about this.

If you choose not to do as requested immediately we would have no other choice than to press charges against you in accordance to the constitution and I quote "Whoever knowingly violates section 5136A of the Revised Statutes of the United States, section 9A of the Federal Reserve Act, or section 20 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both". You're still young and have a very bright future. You have until 2 p.m. EST to do the right thing.
