- Panama City, FL, USA • Apr 29, 2024

The scammer contacts people from LinkedIn offering a job for a work-from-home data entry position. They say they will send a check for over $2k to be used for equipment, and instruct the target to cash the check. I have reached out to the business with no response, and multiple people appear to be having this issue as well based on their reviews on Google.

I am in need of a stay at home remote job. And the scammer used that to try to get me to get a job but is trying to have to actually “send me” money but send it back to them.

- Brookpark, OH, USA • Apr 23, 2024

I applied for a job listing on Indeed.com for a Remote Customer Relations and Scheduling position and was emailed and text to confirm I was still looking to apply for the position. I was just sent a check that I was to deposit and take out my pay of $600 and the check was for $4,991.

- San Diego, CA, USA • Mar 22, 2024

I applied for a position at Allegion on ZipRecruiter several months back. I received a message via text from a Lucas Hernandez asking if I was still interested and that they saw my application on ZipRecruiter , so of course I said yes, he told me it was $25/hour Monday-Friday 9-5est.

Set up a phone interview that lasted all of 4 minutes which I found a little odd but not really uncommon now that I think about it the interview was odd, his mic was muffled and it sounded like he was reading from a script. Well the following day I was accepted for the position and they sent me an offer letter and a form for them to complete a background check. That email was All in which has the “Allegion” company name on it.

It asked for my home address, full name, last 4 of my social, license number & picture. Etc. the basic things on a background check form. So I sent it back thinking it’s legit. Following up today 22March2024 they send me a email with two emails attached to this one and this time the email is from a person names Anusha Thiyagarah , saying they were going to send me a check for $3200 to purchase the equipment and that my onboarding is starting. That was automatically a red flag to me, no business will ever ever do that. Now I don’t know what to do as far as someone stealing my identity or information.

Contacted about a data entry job for exosome science. Gave info sent check to be deposited

- Somerset, NJ, USA • Mar 14, 2024

Sarah harden texted me about the position I had applied for . I did okay in the assessment test and they still offered me the position. I was happy untill I got the offer letter ." you will need to obtain a personal license for the software used in transmitting data, specifically for remote work purposes. The software requires every user to upgrade their account using their personal wallet, which must match the name on their account. This is in compliance with the Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws. Therefore, the company will issue an expense check to you specifically for the purpose of getting started. You are expected to use the funds from the check only for the purpose of acquiring the license. Our HR assistant (Ms Harden) will provide you with further instructions and references to assist you in getting started."

It seemed shady . Listen to your gut people!

- Covington, GA, USA • Mar 13, 2024

Before the job was offered, I was asked the name of my bank. I was never interviewed but I did answer interview questions through an assessment. Offer letter stated I would need to use my “personal wallet” and it had to be the same name that I was using for the job. The offer letter stated that they would issue me an “expense check” to cover the funds associated with me gaining the license necessary to use the specific software that is needed for the job. I never accepted the offer letter or provided any personal information.

- Odessa, FL, USA • Mar 11, 2024

I was contacted via text message about a remote data entry position I had applied for, starting the person name is Sarah and she is from Exosome Sciences, Inc and she is reaching out to me about my job application for the position of remote data entry clerk. They would like to invite me to an interview and pay rate is $27 per house. If interested please send resume to [email protected]. I did send the email with my resume attached and was told about the job offering 2 weeks training starting at $20 and will increase to $27 after training and they will shop equipment to home. The email sounded too good to be true and did not end with a contact number on the signature.

- San Pedro, CA, USA • Mar 11, 2024

The “company” contacted me about a data entry position converting documents from .pdf format to Word or Excel documents. After some back & forth, including a professional-looking questionnaire, the HR Generalist, Steven Haller offered the job at $20/hr. At which point he stated that I would need to use their equipment purchased from a third-party vendor in the area. After getting no reply as to which vendor or any benefit questions, they sent me an “equipment fee” check for $4300 to pay for the equipment & said I didn’t have to worry, they’ll set it all up. I said I wasn’t comfortable moving forward with that process. They replied that was a company-standard test to see if I would run off with the money. I cut off contact at that point & wished them the best of luck. I did not deposit the supposed check, which asked for my account number in the endorsement area. The supposed company has my personal info such as name, address, phone number, email & bank name. However, I did not give them any account numbers or credit card numbers.

- Phoenix, AZ, USA • Mar 08, 2024

This scammer reached out via email stating they had a remote data entry job that pays $25 per hour. $35 per hour after 2 weeks training. They sent a job description outlining the position on cytovance letterhead. There was a text interview/questionnaire via ringcentral, then i received an offer letter. They asked me to comokete an assessment which was answeing one question and finally, the result is they want to send a check or direct deposit for startup fees.

- San Marcos, CA, USA • Mar 07, 2024

I saw an ad on Instagram about side jobs available on grabjobs.com. So I went there and created a profile, uploaded my resume and had referrals added, as recommended. I was contacted a few weeks later via text from a local number stating that my resume was reviewed and if I was interested I could set-up a job interview. It was all remote. I did the initially interviews via Telegram App, was provided new hire paperwork/contract, etc. and started work for a week. My first paycheck was mailed to me and I deposited it. Then they requested that I wire $1k of the check that was provided via Zelle for software programs that were required to continue the remote work with their system. I wired the money and then they cancelled the check that they had sent to me, so Wells Fargo took back the original payment and denied my fraud claim for the $1k that was sent via Zelle. The money was sent to an email address for Lora Mulls. [email protected]. The person I was in constant contact with was supposedly "Cory Thompson" with Infineon Technologies.

- Buffalo, NY, USA • Mar 06, 2024

Contacted them via indeed. They set up an interview via the signal app. Process felt automated. Provided a job letter offer, w4 and asked to cash in a check via mobile deposit, was contacted orginally from Wagner press inc, they said they passed my information to arcadia management group. The check they sent was from another company Ordner Construction Co. With an address of 1600 Excuted Drive Suite 100, Duluth GA 30096. Formed a reddit group with many other experienced the same thing. They created websites fake forms and etc and made it seem as real as possible. It was very hard to detect that it was a scam. They were being very forceful with the deadlines and wasted 2.5 days worth of my time.

- Naperville, IL, USA • Mar 06, 2024

I recently came across what seemed like a legitimate job posting for a part time virtual assistant position at Premier Appliance Services. The owner, Inna Dontsova, reached out to me, asking for my resume and explaining that she was a busy entrepreneur currently out town on business until March 10. She assured me that we would arrange a meeting once she returned.

Initially, everything seemed standard for a job application process. Inna mentioned the position would pay between 700 and 850 per week, depending on performance, with the potential for it to evolve into a full-time role. She also mentioned the need for a home office setup which seemed reasonable for a remote position.

However, red flags started to appear when Inna informed me that her accountant, who was supposedly working on an audit, would. be issuing a check from the business account to cover my first week's pay and equipment expenses. She claimed the equipment supplier only accepted money orders due to a change in financial institutions. Despite my initial suspicions, I dismissed them, thinking I was being overly cautious. After all, the job posting was on LinkedIn, a platform I assumed to be safe from scams.

Unfortunately, I was mistaken. To my horror, the check issued by Inna's accountant turned out to be fraudulent, leaving me nearly $5,000 in the red as my bank account was frozen. I have since reported this incident to the appropriate authorities, but I felt compelled to share my experience to protect others.

It is reprehensible that individuals like Inna and companies like Premier Appliance Services prey on unsuspecting job seekers, exploiting their trust and financial security. They are the epitome of deceit and malice, and I implore anyone considering working with or for them to exercise extreme caution. Furthermore, I urge potential customers of Premier Appliance Services to be wary of engaging with a business associated with such unscrupulous practices. No one deserves to fall victim to their deceptive schemes, and it is vital to expose and condemn such behavior to protect others. This can happen to ANYONE.

Please heed this warning and stay vigilant in your job search and business dealings. Let us unite to expose and denounce those to seek and exploit others for their own gain. Just take a look at their awful company reviews.. that speaks for itself.

- White House, TN, USA • Mar 04, 2024

I applied for a job listing on Indeed for Wagner Press Graphics Inc. and received an email saying they had received my application and looked forward to reviewing it. The next day I had an email from someone from Arcadia Management Group saying my resume was forwarded to them by Wagner Press Graphics Inc. as a referral. The email said to download Signal Messenger to immediately contact the hiring manager if interested and that the pay for the position was $24.95/hr. I was desperate to get a job so I followed the instructions and went through a whole interview process over text through Signal Messaging. The hiring manager said I’d been hired and that they would email me employment paperwork along with a check to deposit so that I could buy software needed for the position. After talking with friends and doing some research I realized it was a scam.

- Reynoldsburg, OH, USA • Mar 03, 2024

I was approached about scheduling an interview for an audio engineering position with the company, SoundMind. I had an interview via microsoft teams and received word the following week that I'd been offered the position. They were supposed to be paying for me to get all my equipment and emailed me a check for me to start getting it. I was instructed to use the funds to buy bitcoin because the vendor offered a discount for crypto currency. Before the check bounced I withdrew $1000 to begin ordering my equipment. The next day, I started feeling off about the situation. With the help of my family, I did some more investigating and found that the email server the person I was communicating with did not match the servers of the people working at the actual company. I alerted my bank and then filed a police report. I told the people from SoundMind that I couldn't do any more withdrawals because my bank put holds on my account and I haven't heard from them since. A few days later, the check they sent me indeed bounced and the $1000 came out of my own funds.

- Stephenville, TX, USA

I was recruited by Tatyana Nader through text message (850-263-7060) about the Administrative Assistant position for South 8 Technologies. I trusted her word and she said that I have an online interview. Again, I was thinking that this job is real, so she asked me if I had Skype. I told her no, but I downloaded it because the hiring manager (Daniel Duckwilder) use Skype with his email [email protected]. I proceeded with the interview and I was hired for the position. They sent me paper work to sign for my W-4 and an employee offer letter, and now my personal information is on there. I am worried that somebody will try to take my information and take away everything I worked hard for. I was told that I had to purchase my working equipment with the funds check sent by them. I noticed that the check didn’t look right so I asked my bank to use their scam tracker. My bank told me that this check I received from this company is fake.

I replied and asked where my resume was posted as I could not find that I had applied to this company. "Eric Russel" replied but did not answer my question:

_____

Please get connected with the hiring manager by setting a Zoom account and adding her via her ID/email ( [email protected] ) to commence with the interview, You can as well provide me your email used in creating Zoom so an invite can be sent to you. Thank you and Good luck.

_____

I replied with my email address and he said that Annie Olofsson would send me a Zoom invite, which she did.

I accepted her contact and she immediately messaged me and asked if I was available for an interview. I said yes, and she said it would be conducted entirely online by IM only.

The interview was lengthy and lasted about an hour. At the conclusion, she told me I looked like a good candidate and that she would send my info to her managers...and if I could hold for 15-20 mins. I said yes.

She replied back in a while that I would be hired. She sent me a complete background on Flower Infrastructure. She said they were a Swedish power company that would be opening an office in L.A. in October but that my role would be fully remote. She said I was to log into Zoom the next morning (8/29) and report to her and she would send me employment offer letters, tax forms, etc. She asked for my bank (for payroll purposes) and address and phone number. She told me she would be sending a check which I would need to deposit in my own account. Once funds hit, I was to purchase my computer and office equipment for my home office. I gave her my address, phone number, and bank name only. No very imporant personal info (SS#, account #'s) was sent.

That evening I began having a lot of doubts about this since it seemed "too good to be true" and a lot of things didn't add up. I did some research on the company and the 2 initial contacts and I found a few similar scams online, so I decided I would not accept the job or the check.

I wrote Annie via Zoom on Tuesday morning:

_____

Hi Annie, I will have to withdraw my application. I am not confident this is not a job scam and I need to protect myself. I hope you understand this - if you are able to supply me all needed equipment and materials without my personal bank details and account being used, I would reconsider. Is there a formal online announcement of the opening of a Los Angeles office available? Thank you.

_____

She never replied to this and in fact, removed her profile image from Zoom. It looks like her identity and company info were used to conduct this scam. This woman's role in the company is not a "hiring manager" according to the company site.

This morning I received, via UPS, 2 checks from "Gold Coast Bank" in Minneolla, NY, in the amounts of $4880 & $4390. The envelope's return label is

_____

Matt Como

Lifetime Brands Inc

1000 Stewart Avenue

Garden City, NY 11530

_____

Please let me know of any questions or you need further documentation, proof, evidence - I am holding on to the checks. They expire in 90 days...should I destroy them?

Thank you,

Asked to complete an interview questionnaire and then they replied back in 2 days with a job offer letter and got my name and home address. They said they’d send a check for equipment to work from home. They then started using text messaging for communication and sent me a check for $4970 to deposit with my bank mobile app which I did until I saw a available use of $2500 with a hold on the rest. They wanted me to send $2500 now to 973-856-4724 with Apple Pay and I did not. I contacted the actual complaint and they said this was a phishing scam and it’s not a job offer from them. I then blocked the phishing phone number and email and contracted my bank about fraudulent check.

I was sent an email from the email address [email protected]. The email stated “ We are pleased to inform you that your resume on INDEED has been approved and you have been selected for an online interview with our company concerning the following remote positions: Remote Customer Service Representative, Administrative Assistant, and Data Entry Clerk.

Your interview will be conducted electronically via MICROSOFT TEAMS, ZOOM or SKYPE. To proceed, kindly connect with the HR Operations Manager, Mrs. Amy Provost on any of her contact platforms below then provide your Verification Code to commence the online interview and briefing for comprehensive job details.”

I utilized Zoom expecting to have a video chat interview but instead had a text only chat with Amy Provost. This made me feel hesitant. She didn’t have any grammatical errors, but her verbiage did feel like an AI Bot. They asked very typical interview questions. They hired me within an hour of doing the interview. I made sure to check through everything because I still was unsure about this being real. They have a very real looking website www.novocure.com and Amy Provost is on LinkedIn with the company for 3 years. So I felt as though maybe this could be real. I also googled their typical interview process and there was someone from February of this year that said she had a chat only interview but the experience was great and she loves the company. They sent me an official hiring contract and a W-4 to fill out. They also sent me an electronic cashier’s check for $2,453.46 because i will have to make a payment to a specific company that they work with in order to acquire my work equipment. They told me to print it out and then to deposit it through my mobile banking app. This occurred on a Friday morning. They asked me to check back in within 24 hours to make sure my deposit went through. Saturday morning my deposit did go through and I reached out to notify them. At this point they asked if I would like to use Zelle, CashApp, or wire transfer to purchase my work equipment. At this point I did not proceed any further. I did not submit a payment for the equipment and I did not return my W-4 form. I did ask Amy why I was the one having to purchase the equipment and why this process wasn’t done internally and she said that her company was experiencing technical difficulties over the last few weeks which is why they had to switch to the check method temporarily. I also asked Amy if I could have a video chat with someone and she said that I will in 2 weeks.

I accepted a job offer working from home. The company sent me all on boarding information via email. I was to fill it out and send back to HR. When I was finished with that I was to utilize an app called Signal as they explained it was the safest way to discuss business (sensitive info about the companies that we work with).

This seemed legit, then they sent me a check to purchase equipment as they explained it so thoroughly and made it seem as this is how the company works as the main company is overseas.

Since the time my account was frozen, they have not bothered to answer back.
