Employment Solicitation - Phishing Scam Reports & Reviews (235)

- New York, NY, USA • Oct 26, 2024

I responded to their job listing ad with my resume via Craigslist (https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/ofc/d/los-angeles-executive-assistant-to-... and they contacted me back, "interviewed" me twice (30 mins each call) saying they had a recording of the interview and then wanted to hire me very quickly. I believe they may very well be fraudulently misusing my personal data and obtaining my voice recordings for fraudulent purposes. Or trying to "onboard new hires" to obtain bank information for fraud. The "company" which has no legit CEO or employee footprint online even though they say they were founded in 2020 according to their (very primitive) website and have 200 employees. No official address or phone numbers. No social media or LinkedIn. Also, the recruiter Spencer Cruz who "interviewed" me twice has two strange profiles which look very fake and uses two different names: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61565608074273 https://ph.linkedin.com/in/laurence-salvo-56a818333

This scammer try to do job employment.

Dear ******* Thank you for your interest in our job position Entry Level Data Entry Clerk (100% Remote) . You are qualified for this opportunity for your experience, currently have 6 other applications along with yours that we are considering, so you can consider yourself on the short list to be hired...

Job Type: Full/Part-time Available !

Salary: starting at $35 hour up to $45 !

Kindly help us to express-process your application by performing one of the two mandatory steps that must be taken for all new employees. Since we need to look at both background and credit reports on all applicants , you can help us by obtaining your own current credit report, speeding up the process immensely. We have found it's best if you have it in advance to make sure there are no surprises on it and confirm that your history is correctly listed..

We would prefer that you use this company: www.identitycheck.com to acquire your credit history because they're offering the check at 7-day access for $1 cost to you (unlike other places) and their results contain the most precise details I've come across.

Once you submit all of the needed information, they are going to show your own personal report. Please print it out and save it for the online meeting. Please do not email me the report, since it will have personal content. We can go over it when we meet in person. Should you have a lower than expected credit rating, it will never prevent you from gaining a position with us. WE DO NOT NEED TO KNOW YOUR SCORE..

When you finish this process email us back with the subject "My Availability" to let us know.

Thanks

Best Regards,

Hiring Manager,

There was a LinkedIn job posting for a part-time VA. LinkedIn even included this job posting in their emailed job alerts, as I was not actively searching but was receiving emails from LinkedIn with jobs similar to my interests. I applied and they scheduled a video interview.

They interviewed me via a Zoom link, which I saved.

Then they said they wanted to do a background check and had me submit my driver's license front & back via:

Secure Upload Link: https://echocraftdigital.com/secure-upload/ Password: ************** They offered a VA role, and asked me to sign a contract. I did not and asked them for verification details. At that point, they never wrote again.

This was a work from home administrative support position. The responsibilities would include:

Receive and distribute mail to clients

Receive and distribute invoices to clients

Prepare and distribute correspondence

Answer email from clients directing them to the appropriate unit.

I was also told that I needed to download telegram messaging to complete the employment application. This is not the first time this type of job has been offered. I got caught up in a job similar to this, but I think it was a different name at the time. I got contacted by the Postmaster General about it being a scam.

Tried to schedule a Zoom interview with me… I had never applied to the company.

- Fort Worth, TX, USA • Sep 10, 2024

I applied to their job posting through Indeed. The job offer did seem a bit too good to be true. They had a few people contact me via Email asking to fill out a W-9 and sign an Employee Agreement form. Unfortunately, they did receive my SSI number, home address, and my bank account information.

- Marion, VA, USA • Sep 09, 2024

It was a too good to be true job offer and they sent me forms to fill out and a w-4. So they did get my social security number and my direct deposit information

- Goose Creek, SC, USA • Sep 09, 2024

The website and LinkedIn of this company is their only online presence and they are not registered with the department of the state despite operating as an incorporation. I was contacted about an interview using very urgent language on a Sunday night at 7:00. I scheduled the interview for Monday at 11:30, and they confirmed at 10AM. When it was time for the meeting, they didn’t show up on Zoom so I left after five minutes. As soon as I left, I recieved a phone call from the CEO to conduct an interview via phone instead. He said that any questions about compensation or day-to-day were a second round interview topic. After I said I couldn’t give a definitive start date, he was no longer interested. The job listing on LinkedIn was also short and gave no real description of the duties of the Marketing Assistant job. An AI checker website said this job posting and almost everything on their website was written by AI.

Mom applied for a job from an Indeed recommendation. She went to the website and applied. The interview was over Microsoft teams PMing. They told her she got the job for $36.75 an hour and that they were gonna send her a laptop and printer and scanner for her job. Obvious scam after researching. Please remove this website.

- Houston, TX, USA • Aug 17, 2024

The target first received a cold message by the scammer, using the username "Anna Silva" via internet messaging, baiting them to respond by simply asking "Hello, what is going on?". The target responded by asking a question of their own "Hello, who is this?". The scammer proceeds to thank the target for replying and offers them a job where the target could do 5 to 10 minutes of work a day, by just using their smartphone.

The target asks for more details about the company, receiving the name Cyntexx and the website https://www.cyntexx.com/ as a response. The scammer described the company as being a "digital marketing company", and state the reason for contact was them having the need for 5 to 10 people to staff a project.

Given the sparse information of the website, the mode of contract, and the nature of the job, the target believes that the scammer tries to phish information from potential targets, under the guise of offering them a job.

I received the email then researched the name of the company and saw one link. When I clicked the link, the page had an announcement stating "Suspended". I additionally attempted to find the name of the person who sent the email: Sarah Williams, to no avail.

The message content is almost exactly of the other person who reported the incident. Here it is:

I got the text. Looked it up, and found similar texts on Bbb.org. Reporting it for good measure. I did not reply to them or reach out to them, so I didn’t get to confirm if they asked for money or not.
