I purchased two purses from the 'Grace Bags' ad that popped up in my feed. Photos of a lovely woman who was retiring. I was excited, as I thought I was supporting an American company. The advertised purses do not at ALL match the absolute crap quality purses I received. And the package was shipped from somewhere in China. I felt like I did my homework by reading the reviews (which were all glowing), but now I see that there is nowhere to actually leave reviews on their site. Hopefully this will teach me to be more careful in the future.

Based on an advertisement on instagram , I bought 2 bags on a buy 1 get 1 offer for $254.85. The purchase was based on the false advertising under the impression that these were pure leather bags made within the US gracebags.com lists CT as the address , which I thought was Connecticut. When I tracked the shipping, it was from Mainland China and I promptly contacted them to cancel the order which they refused, since it was in transit.

I informed my credit card company but was only able to place a conditional hold on the amount.

I received the handbags yesterday, and they are not leather, but poorly made vinyl bags and with missing parts .

I contacted the company to request a refund, and they are meaning to charge me up to $40-60$ to return these fake products , the dispute in ongoing with no resolution yet.

Can you help me resolve this matter?

I believe this company is guilty of scamming people out of $$$ through pretentious means and fake products.

The so called Co. says she and her husband are going out of business after 34 years, shows a picture of her in her workshop with a leather vest on and leather merchandise behind her. She or they tell the story a very personable one of how she started her business and how she transforms Raw Leather into something beautiful. How she brings every stitch to life, each one unique like the people who carry them, feeling the texture of the leather, the

process, patience, and the pride creating something with your own two hands. We'll it is anything but leather, its fake! I waited 3 weeks for it to come and figured I got scammed by this time. I checked out the Co. on

Trust Pilot and basically everyone said the same thing, ripped off. The contact info was just an e-mail and they never responded at all. They also advertise that they are having 80% off, which thank God I didn't pay the regular price which was $325.00 and I would have really been upset.

- Detroit, MI, USA • Dec 04, 2024

The company falsely advertised that they were selling genuine leather bags. I purchased one of them which is not leather.

- Sacramento, CA, USA • Dec 03, 2024

Grace’s Bags claims to sell quality leather and workmanship. The website explains the owner, Grace, makes the bags and is retiring and selling all of her inventory at a discount. I purchased several bags and they took about a month to arrive from China. The bags are cheaply made out of synthetic material. I asked for a refund and they offered me 15% refund, which I turned down. They tried offering me 30% refund and to keep the bags. I refused that offer also. They say I am not able to return the products to the address on the shipping label, but that I would have to send products back to China... costing me $50 I found a similar site called "Hui Ying bags" that have the same products and story ... AI generated pictures of the owner. Grace looks Caucasian and the Hui Ying looks Asian.

Details of the Misleading Advertisement:

The advertisement portrayed a narrative of a small business owner, represented by an image of a "Martha Stewart-like" woman retiring after years of crafting handmade, high-quality leather goods.

The bags were advertised as being marked down significantly from high retail prices due to a "going out of business" sale.

The photos depicted items of exceptional quality, consistent with genuine leather goods.

Misrepresentation of the Product:

The items I received are entirely inconsistent with the description and imagery. The material is clearly faux leather and does not remotely resemble the products shown in the advertisement.

Deceptive Return Policy:

They only accept return requests within 14 days of your order but since they are shipping from China by the time you receive the item the time frame has already passed. In addition, the cost to return it internationally would outweigh the cost of the item.

Conclusion:

The seller's practices are not only deceptive but also predatory, targeting customers with false claims and making it financially prohibitive to seek a refund. I respectfully request that the seller be investigated for fraudulent and misleading practices.

I ordered a leather bag from a company called Graces Bags, claiming they had to go out of business and all their bags were being sold at a deep discount. I bought one of the least expensive bags I saw on the site. Once I placed the order and complained that I had still not received it, I realized it was made in and coming from China. After more than 2 weeks, the bag arrived. It is made of the cheapest plastic I've ever seen, which they call "vegan leather," in their response. My local dollar store would not sell this piece of junk. I wanted to return it, but according to their customer service, it would cost between $30 and $50 to ship back. They eventually offered me a 60% refund which I took, but assured them that I would report them to the Better Business Bureau.

- Los Angeles, CA, USA • Nov 25, 2024

A social media post for Grace Bags advertised a "closing sale", writing that they were going out of business. The bags are advertised as "handmade" in the USA using genuine leather. The bag I received was mass produced from China. It is even stamped with a logo reading, "Denglidaishu" which is not the company I purchased the bag from. It is not what was advertised and is from a completely different company.

- Mchenry, IL, USA • Nov 25, 2024

I recently received a purse as a gift after sending a link to family member for a purse selection I made from their website. The leather on the bag is paper-thin so I was suspicious of the product. I searched to Scam database of ScamPulse.com and this company came up. Another victim said that the business was in China, and that the leather is fake. I cannot confirm the business is in China, but no business address is given on the website. I do believe the leather is fake. I also noticed that the website says the business is closing, but that does not seem accurate. Further, there is a Black Friday sale—2 for the price of one, but I noticed that the prices had been doubled when using that page of the website.

- Redlands, CA, USA • Nov 21, 2024

This website sells women's purses. I purchased a set of bags which were advertised as "100% Leather." Not only were the bags NOT LEATHER but they weren't even vaguely similar to the photos on the website. The website showed beautiful high-quality bags whereas the bags I received were of poor quality, NOT LEATHER, and not even the color I ordered! When I requested a refund, I was only offered a 40% refund unless I returned the bags to China. The bags were shipped from Vernon, California so I requested a return to the same address. This request was refused. The shipping, to China, was over $64 so I opted for the partial refund. Which I have not received to date. This transaction was fraudulent in every way!

- Rochester, NY, USA • Nov 18, 2024

I ordered purses from a website claiming to be handmade. Online they look very nice and I saw positive reviews on facebook. I normally don't order things based on ads I've seen & facebook shouldn't be allowed to promote this company. I got a plastic bag claiming to be "leather" & was told it's better to keep it because the shipping to return is too expensive. Even though their website says "hassle free returns" ... false advertising!

- Columbia, MD, USA • Nov 16, 2024

The website states that the bags are handmade and deeply discounted because the business is closing soon. The bags were shipped from China, which did not match anything implied or stated on the website. The bags are mass produced and very low quality - not at all what was promised. I requested a refund and wanted to return the bags. This is the reply I received: "As noted in our return policy, we don't offer free returns, and since we're based in Europe, return shipping can be quite costly (around $30-50 USD). To make things easier for you, I'd like to offer an alternative: you can keep the bags, and I'll refund 20% back to your original payment method. If you accept this offer, I will process the refund within 24 hours." I declined that offer and again asked for the return address to I could send the bags back. This was the reply: "After thinking about it more, I’d like to offer a 40% refund to your original payment method if you keep the bags. This way, you don’t have to worry about the high cost and inconvenience of returning them, and I hope it helps ease the frustration you’ve been feeling. If you accept this offer, I will process the refund within 24 hours. Please have a look at my return policy where you are eligible for the returns: https://grace-bags.com/pages/returns-exchanges" I declined again and they replied with this offer: "As a final solution, I’d like to offer you a 60% refund to your original payment method, and you can keep the bags. This is the maximum discount we can provide without requiring a return, and I hope it demonstrates our commitment to resolving this issue fairly. If you accept this offer, I will process the refund within 24 hours. If this solution does not work for you, I completely understand, and you are welcome to return the bags to our warehouse in Asia. Please note, however, that you would need to cover the return shipping costs, which can be around $30-70 USD for your order." In this response, you can see that they said they're located in Asia, not Europe, as stated in their earlier email (in relation to where I'd be sending the bags for a return.) I accepted this offer because I was concerned about how long this was dragging out. I asked for clarification about exactly how much the 60% would be and received this reply: "Thank you for reaching out. Your order total was $97.76, and we can offer you a 60% refund, which amounts to $58.66. Would you like to proceed with this refund, or would you prefer to return the bags? Please let us know how you'd like to move forward."

I received the refund of $58.66 on November 6, 2024. I had placed the order on October 12, 2024.

The bags are advertised as handmade by a lady named Grace in her workshop. They are supposedly made out of leather with her doing each stitch. The ad says she and her husband are going out of business and have their last bags at a big discount price. I ordered 2 for gifts for my daughters for Christmas. When they arrived, I could tell they were not real leather. One of them had a metal tag on the front with a Chinese name on it. I contacted the company when I saw the tracking said they were coming from China. I was told they were made in Canada but somehow got shipped out of China. When I said I wanted a refund I was told that I would have to pay for the return shipping to China which would cost $50-$70. I said I was not going to do that. They first offered me a 10% refund and when I said NO, they raised it to 40% and I could keep the bags. I told them I didn't want the bags, I wanted a full refund. That's as far as I got with them. I reported them to PayPal also. Then I read reviews and saw that this has happened to lots of people.

- Pittsburgh, PA, USA • Nov 08, 2024

Ad on Facebook claimed an artisan who crafted fine leather was going out of business and attempting to sell her inventory. The ad claimed that this was a product of Canada. I purchased what I thought to be a genuine leather handbag.

The description of the product claimed it to be made of leather. When I tracked the package I saw that its origin was China. The product arrived and was very thin, smelled of plastic, and made of bonded vinyl. I would not pay ten dollars for this bag at the Dollar Store.

This was false advertising and the product was not worth ten dollars.

- Mountain View, CA, USA • Nov 08, 2024

The advertisement on Instagram described a closing of business sale. Deep clearance discounts (I guess red flag)

The more porduct you bought, the deeper the discount. I got 30% off the sale price for buying 5 bags.

The usual customer email updates were sent: we got you order, we're putting together your package, here's a special discount if you want more bags...Your package in on the way.

There was a backstory to the "owners" who we somewhere like Utah. An "older couple" wer owners. I should have know by the AI generated imagery.

Please note that there is only a support email as a point of contact. No phone number. I had to use the generic 999-999-9999 so I could move through the reporting process.

I'm out under $300, and I'd like my money back, if possible, but I only looked at reviews after I hit "Buy. Scammers, vinyl, cheap, China", were the main themes I usually check the companies from which I buy products.

I saw that some customers never received their items. I received two packages today, since I bought 5 bags. The tracking note also note that the package was coming from CHina, so really big red flag. I wasn't expecting anything.

In any case, The bags are very cheap, smelly vinyl, the designs are okay, but probably copied from a collective source, as I read that these bags were also on Temu under another seller.

We all need to be vigilant when buying from new companies, but there needs to be checks and balances on who gets to post on Social Media after being found out they are scams. They need to be taken down and charged with scamming or some other large offense,. This scammer seller is still advertising and fooling people.

- Midland, MI, USA • Nov 04, 2024

Website claims to be selling handmade authentic leather purses and bags. In actuality, they are cheaply made fake leather bags not worth the prices they are charging.

- Lincoln, RI, USA • Oct 29, 2024

On the Gace Bags website, the company claims they are closing their store after multiple years. There's a photo of the husband and wife who purportedly are the store owners and the artists who make the leather handbags. They are offering leather handbags at a discount price. The bags in the photos appear to be high quality, handmade leather bags. However, what was received was very poor quality, and I question whether it's even made of leather. Feels like vinyl. The website claims to offer refunds within 14 days, but I've been getting the run-around. My neighbor, who also purchased a handbag, was informed that she would be responsible for returning the item to China, which they stated was expensive and she would be responsible for the cost. They said a second option was to keep the bag and receive 20% of the cost. This is not stated on their website and I want a full refund. However, I'm not getting any cooperation from the firm.

- Castaic, CA, USA • Oct 26, 2024

The website, https://grace-bags.com/, advertises handmade genuine leather handbags on Facebook. I ordered 2 handbags. The products I received did not resemble what I ordered and paid for. Instead of genuine leather, I received cheap, smelly fake "leather," otherwise known as vinyl handbags. I tried returning the items, but the merchant would only agree to refund me 20% of what I paid, claiming that it would be too expensive to return the items overseas when the products were shipped from a Vernon, CA, address, which is 35 miles away from my city, Castaic, CA. I contacted my credit card company to dispute the charges and to reverse the 97.00$ as I believe this company is misleading people and misrepresenting their products. I think the company is a fraud and is running a scam [on Facebook] claiming that the products are genuine leather [by showing stock pictures] but delivering poor quality junk.

- Cincinnati, OH, USA • Oct 22, 2024

Real leather, handcrafted purses made in America were advertised on Facebook. Said the woman had been making these by hand for decades and was retiring, so her merchandise was deeply discounted. I ordered one. It took super long to be delivered, which is what made me look into the situation. Shipping said it was "leaving mainland," so I assume it was coming from China. Company offers no address or phone number. Bag finally arrived and is fake leather, mass produced, not what was advertised at all. I have started a claim with my credit card company. I anticipate getting my money back. But I don't want this company to keep faking people out.

- Santa Barbara, CA, USA • Oct 19, 2024

Grace Bags advertises on the internet under the guise that a woman who has hand-crafted leather goods for decades is closing her shop and getting rid of inventory at discounted prices. She states 'My husband and I are saying goodbye to our workshop." Introduction: "Hi there, I’m Grace, and I’m so happy you’ve found your way to my little corner of the world. For over 34 years, I’ve been crafting leather bags with love, care, and a dedication to quality that comes from the heart. My journey with leather began as a passion project and grew into something much bigger—a way to connect with people like you, who appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of a well-made bag. The Journey: It all started in a small workshop, where I fell in love with the process of transforming raw leather into something beautiful and functional. There’s something truly special about working with your hands, feeling the texture of the leather, and knowing that each stitch brings a piece closer to life. Over the years, my workshop has seen countless bags come to life, each one unique, just like the people who carry them." The site shows, what I believe to be an AI generated husband and wife, working on leather goods. The original prices on the images of the hand bags are over inflated to give the consumer the impression that these are expensive hand crafted leather goods. They buy them, thinking they are getting a good deal, only to discover when they receive them that the handbags are not handcrafted by a lovely older woman, but that they are machine made in China, and of very, very poor quality. I bought six bags, not because I needed bags, but because I thought I was helping this hard working artists to unload inventory so that she could retire. My plan was to give them to family members for Christmas this year. These bags are of such terrible quality, not even leather, that I would not give them to anyone. The bags are shipped from 16 Overmeyer Way, Forest Park Georgia 30297. There is no phone number to contact anyone. However, when I contacted "Grace Bags" via their support email, I was told that the bags had to be shipped back to China at my expense. They also offered for me to keep the bags at a further discount. The email came from someone named HIBA. I have asked them for their EIN and license to sell goods in the United States, which they have refused to provide. I have filed a complaint with Paypal and also with my bank, and the US Consumer Affairs Division. If you receive goods from this company, file complaints everywhere. You are being defrauded. Someone has to step in. This was a clever ruse that thousands and thousands of people, just like me fell prey to.
