Medicare billed for unordered medical supplies Reports & Reviews (38)

Royce Medical Supply which is supposedly, according to their website, an orthopedic supplier of braces. I discovered yesterday on a statement from my Medicare Supplement plan that they were billed, thru Medicare, for $1900 a month May through October 2023 for a total of $11,400. I never heard of this company and I did not receive any medical supplies during these months. I contacted my Medicare supplement plan provider who told me it was under investigation and I should call Medicare. However, they likely would have paid the balance at some point. They told me the bill was for urinary catheter devices. I do not use or need this type of device nor have I ever contacted Royce for any other type of device. Also, I learned that their phone number is not in service. I checked my Medicare claims and saw that they actually did pay scammer Royce Medical nearly $9000 of the bill and then forwarded it to my supplement company to pay the other 20%. I contacted Medicare and was connected to the DME fraud department. They thanked me and told me to keep watching my statements. From what I understand, Medicare has no way of preventing future payments to this company for me or others because they have no way of blocking payments to these fraudulent/criminal "companies". There needs to be some type of fraud detection, prevention, and pursuit of these criminals but it seems there is nothing, similar to the millions of scammers making calls, especially to vulnerable seniors. I did not lose any money personally, but Medicare lost money in my name. Medicare will not be able to recover the payments because this company and phone number doesn't exist. I posted this on Facebook and Nextdoor and learned that others have had their insurance providers/Medicare billed/defrauded for the same unneeded devices and other medical devices by this company and other similar companies. I am also concerned about how this company gained access to my personal Medicare information and why these claims were paid for these devices without a doctor's prescription or verification. I fear that ScamPulse.com is not actually an effective resource because I doubt insurance providers and Medicare check your site for reports before paying claims. Is there any legal or Justice Department arm affiliated to investigate and stop these criminals?

On December 2, 2023, my mother received a letter from her secondary health insurance plan stating that they had received a claim that had "missing, invalid or unreadable information" and were requesting more information. The claim on the letter was for the date of 07/31/2023 and the provider listed was "Royce Medical Supply, LLC." Never having heard of them and noting that the date in the letter did not correspond to any of my mother's (real) doctor appointments, I checked the company name online and found it here under ScamPulse.com Scam Tracker (https://www.bbb.org/scamtracker/lookupscam/753216) as well as on scampulse.com (https://www.scampulse.com/received-notice-that-unordered-medical-equipment-was-... and https://www.scampulse.com/medicare-charged-for-unordered-medical-supplies-review... and EarlyRetirement.org (https://www.early-retirement.org/forums/f38/medicare-fraud-do-you-check-your-eo... and numerous, numerous complaints on https://npidb.org/organizations/suppliers/durable-medical-equipment-medical-supp... and on https://npino.com/medical-supplies/1942934195-royce-medical-supply-llc/ -- I see the dates of those complaints are all recent, July to November 2023. (The alleged company incorporated 07/05/2022.) I, too, then tried the phone number listed by the reporters/complainants as well as on a website for Royce Medical Supply (https://roycemedsupply.com/) which I found online -- the phone number is not in service. I then checked my mothher's claims at Medicare online account. On her Medicare account it shows "This claim: Procedure code: A4353 - Intermittent Urinary Catheter, With Insertion Supplies; 07/31/2023 to 09/29/2023; Claim Type: DME; Provider: ROYCE MEDICAL SUPPLY LLC; Claim Number: xxxxxxx; Medicare-approved amount: $5,580.00; Medicare paid: $4,374.72" for claim of 200 units on 07/31/2023, 08/30/2023, and 09/29/2023 (claim submitted 11/01/2023). Two of the questions asked on this form are "Did the scammer attempt to take money?" to which I would have liked to respond "not attempted, but did!" and "Did the targeted person lose money?" to which the answer is no, not the individual, however Medicare did, and, boo koo bucks!!
