They called and said that they were from Clover, out merchant processor, and that our account had been flagged for rate review and they had accidentally been over-charging me. They requested I download the most recent statement then email it to them at [email protected]

- Savannah, GA, USA • Nov 20, 2024

The person on telephone indicated we had been overcharged on our last few months of credit card statements, and we needed to send a copy of any statement with a code written on it to correct.

They did not have much information, and that raised a red-flag.

They called my business in attempt to access my merchant services account because "We were charged for unnecessary fees in September 2024" they wanted access to my statements to "refund me". When I would not allow them access the man became hostile and told me I was wasting his time (my plan all along). He said the call was recorded (good for him). He eventually told me I was not in compliance and hung up on me.

A message was left on our business answering device after hours. It stated that someone was calling from Merchant Services about an invalid rate increase and that I needed to call them back. I assumed it was a scam attempt and searched the phone number online. I did not call them back.

They are trying to get us to use credit cards. I have been with this company for 2 years and continually call every week, even after I told them we would never use credit cards.

- Bourbonnais, IL, USA • Feb 29, 2024

consistantly calling even after numberous requests to stop. Have threatened them with cease and desist letters and court actions. Despite these threats, they continue to call asking to change our credit card machine to there company. We receive numberous calls a week to where it is interferring with our business. They request our business license number and any identifying information that we refuse to give them. they sound like they are of India descent.

My front desk receptionist stated a call came in from a James at Merchant Services about our account. I proceeded to get on the phone and was told by this "James" that there were some charges on our statements starting 6 months back that were incorrect. He asked for me to get our most recent statement (October) and asked about the different transactions on the statement. I proceeded to question him as to what transactions he was referring to that would be on the statement. He gave me some nonsense about different transactions that were not on the statement. He then asked me to email or fax the statement to him. I told him I could scan the statements and attach them in an email. He wanted me to do it right at that moment while he waited on the phone so he could verify that it was sent. I knew this was a scam so proceeded to tell him I could not send at that moment but if he gave me the email address which was [email protected] and his phone number and extension, I would call him when I was able to send the documents to verify he received them. He proceeded to give me the number 800-490-7479 ext: 7065. After hanging up I called our Merchant services to let them know what had happened and of course they stated it was a scam.

I received a call on my business phone. The woman said she was calling from Merchant Services and that there was a problem with my account. I asked for her number to call her back. She gave me the number 800-490-7479 ext. 7058. I called back and did not ask for the extension, but asked for customer service. I spoke with a man, he said he was going to transfer me to Aaron Rogers, Aaron answered right away, he asked me if the woman who had called gave me her name or extension. I said she gave me extension 7058. He then said that she was out for the day. I replied, that is strange, I just spoke with her 5 minutes ago... he tried to backtrack and that is when I hung up. The woman then called me right back. I hung up again.

My receptionist took a message from "Wilson" at Merchant Services that I needed to call him back at 1-800-490-7479 ext. 7020 regarding us being overbilled by our credit card processing company and needed to have our July statement ready. I was suspicious about this so called my credit card processing company directly at the number on my statement. They stated they had not attempted to contact us in over 2 weeks. Beware!

A lady (first time named Rose & then called herself Mary) called about our credit card service and told us we had a credit that was owed to us from last year. She was asking personal information about our business and the credit card machine. Said we would be contacted 3-5 business days to learn how to receive our credit. Also gave 2nd number (to which she simply answered "hello" not as a business but more as a personal phone) that was 480-530-3402.

I told her we suspected she was a scammer and I was going to report her and she said "okay."

We began receiving calls from several different types of companies all calling themselves "Merchant Services." If we asked for company names, they provided a name, website, and even customized email addresses. The websites were all well made, very polished. Upon further investigation, there is no record of these companies elsewhere, like on the ScamPulse.com website. When they called, they claimed to be calling on behalf of our payment processing company and needed a copy of our credit card statement to make sure we weren't being overcharged. When pressed for details, they would disconnect the call.

I worked for IT for several years before my current position and am experienced at spotting scams. This is a very well constructed scam. When asked for any money-related records, please be very careful, and make sure to look into every company before you share information!

This fictitious entity has been calling and requesting credit card statements for merchant services processing. The entity claimed that they were a third party billing company that our Merchant Services processor uses to correct billing errors on the "pass-thru" exchange fees charged by VISA/MC/AMEX.

When I called our merchant processor on a separate line to ask about this process and whether or not they use this third-party company, the scammer immediately hung up.

The merchant services caller, Patty, wanted us to scan and email a copy of our latest merchant billing statement to them so they could review any overcharges due to insufficient rate increase which may have occurred due to recent rate increase to corporate rates verses small business. Patty wanted to stay on the phone line with us until we physically sent the documents to her by email. I explained we had customers in the store and I would call her back with the information. The whole thing smelled fishy and we contacted our business credit card merchant handler who assured us this was a scammer.

Our receptionist received a phone call at our place of the business on 11/17/2020. The caller asked to speak with the person in charge of credit/debit cards. The call was transferred to the office manager (me). The caller identified as J******* with "Merchant Services". I thought the name of the business was suspicious as merchant services is a very broad term that encompasses an entire industry made up of numerous businesses. The caller asked if he could set up a meeting to review "important updates to the credit card industry". I told the caller that meeting in person was not advisable due to the pandemic and the fact that our business is involved in direct patient care with individuals that may be infected with or exposed to COVID-19. The caller insisted that the meeting be in person and could not be done virtually (another suspicious component of this call). I asked the caller what the topics of the meeting would be. The caller stated that he could not go into detail over the phone about the purpose of the meeting (another red flag). I was confident at this point that the call was a scam. I asked the caller to take our business off of his call list. The caller then stated that, "there is no list and that they will call tomorrow and the day after that and the day after, probably from a different person". The caller basically threatened to harass our business with phone calls if we did not agree to meet with them in person. The caller also stated during the call that he had a large territory and was just getting to Abilene, TX. He went on to say that he had meetings setup with 40 other businesses in this area later this week. I am reporting this to the ScamPulse.com so that other businesses can avoid this scam. Once this company gets their foot in your door I am sure they want to see your credit card terminal(s) or merchant statements so they can steal any relevant information that can aid in their scam. There are many other complaints on the ScamPulse.com website that offer more detail pertaining to how the scam works and what this "company" is after. Please read those complaints. Beware of a company claiming to be "Merchant Services"!

I recently got a phone call (the number was blocked)from a man that said he was with Merchant Services, he said that new rules and regulations in Wyoming have been passed and he needed to go over my credit card services with him and that in Wyoming we are not allowed to charge fees or have processing companies charge us fees. I asked him for further clarification, and he immediately started by asking me questions on how I handle credit cards. I then said Look I am really busy you will have to call back another time. He then set up a time and date he would call me back to discuss the card services. I did this to hopefully get a a phone number etc. He has not called back. The whole call sounded bogus to me but I can see how someone may get suckered into this thinking its legit. Clearly this was targeted to businesses.

This company is very persistent. Calling business to offer a lower fee for merchant services. Does not take no for an answer and demands to speak to owner. Demands urgently that we need to update our merchant services account.

I have received one to two calls daily in the last two months from this scammer. Each time, it is a live person telling me they are from Merchant Services and that they can save me money... Each time I tell them I am not interested, please stop calling me, and take me off of their list. Each time they hang up on me when I speak the first sentence. Then they call back again.

I received a phone call on my new cell phone from a local number. I don’t yet have all my business contacts programmed. I answered and the recording gave me a choice. My whole intention when I "pushed the digit to speak with a representative" was to tell that person not to call anymore. I thought it was the same group whose numerous messages on my answering machine I had already missed. I thought “they” were calling to sign my company up for the ability to accept remittances by credit cards from customers.

Instead it was an offer to lower my credit card interest rate. I asked the man what card he was talking about. He said he represents all the major banks and could reduce my interest rate. He asked if I had merchant cards. He wanted to know how much, total, I had on the cards combined. Since I don't use my cards that much I couldn't easily answer. He badgered me until I gave him a figure. He then questioned me directly to answer "Yes" to confirm that figure. Once he received that information he told me that I would see my interest rate lowered to "2.something" on my next statement and hung up rather abruptly.

His abrupt hanging up of the telephone; my attempting to call him back and getting the message from the phone company that the number was not in service; his referral to my statement, singular when I have more than one card; and my memory of a scam wherein if you replied "YES" brought me here to tell my story. The gentleman was very persuasive, insistent, and spoke rapidly. The inflection in his voice when I asked for clarification of certain things was one of incredulity and disdain. This brief interaction cost me several hours of wasted time speaking with my credit card companies.

No one should not answer a telephone call if they do not recognize the number!

- Winston Salem, NC, USA

A Mr Robinson called to offer credit card processing at no cost and when I told him that I was not interested and to remove me from his calling list he outright refused and told me that he would call back to speak with the owner. I advised that I am the owner at which time he told me that I was not listening and said that he would not stop calling until he spoke to the owner. Caller began screaming and cursing at me. This has got to be a phishing scam as no real business would be so aggressive as to scream obscenities at me and refuse to stop calling me.

- Winston Salem, NC, USA

a person identifying themselves as Telitha called to inform me that NC passed a law reducing cost of Merchant Services to zero and wanted to confirm the amount of credit card transactions I have per day. No company info came up and the phone number is not attached to any business listed with BBB. I believe this is a phishing scam
