Change of address scam

- Lodi, CA, USA • Feb 20, 2024

I used a google search to change my address and chose the first option. The site said nothing about a fee and I was unaware that it would be 179$ to change my address. Movemyaddressnow.com

- Buckeye, AZ, USA • Jan 19, 2024

You click on the address and it goes, it redirects you to a page that asks you for old address and new address and then after you fill the information out, you get an email. My bank shortly called me after that. So I checked my account and it turns out. They took a $179.95 out of my account.

I went in to change my address to my new location, and didn't realize I was not on the official USPS site. I entered all my information, and then my credit card information for the $1.10 service charge. My bank called me 30 minutes later to notify me about fraudulent activity on my card.

I was doing a an address change and I thought the website was real and they took 179 off my card and it's a fake website.

Was not aware of a charge of $179.95

I was looking for the USPS address change to change my address and this website was the first to pop up when I looked it up. It looks legit like the USPS but it actually says UPS address change and there’s absolutely nothing in their terms and conditions that says anything about them charging $179.95/month for their services. I’ve included an image of the website for reference

I looked for the USPS online site because I am moving tomorrow and wanted to forward my address. I thought it looked different but figured the site had likely been updated--even though now that I am paying more attention to check in out in my back button I see the charge now on the check out page in the fine print and realize that they are obviously posing as a legitimate post office site--and asking for $180 versus $1.10 charged by the REAL post office to forward mail is definitely a scam. My bank thankfully declined the charge of 180 dollars--however since I had to report it as fraud now my debit card is inactivated when I need it the most!! I can't use my debit card for my move this weekend and even though the bank is mailing a new one it will take 7 to 10 days and might even go to my old address so I might have to reorder another one! This is so very frustrating and I wanted to report this type of activity online so others can be wary of these types of scammers.

I tried to forward maim theough this site, it aksed doe card info without stating how much it would cause and attempted to charge me $180 for something that could be doje as USPS for less than $2

- Port Orange, FL, USA

Looked like USPS, even says on website USPS, didn't have any money amount listed, was charged $179.99 to change address. Scam!

I was attempting to change my address and clicked on a website that looked like usps. It was not usps and asked me to submit my address, phone number, email and credit card information to verify my identity. I knew usps charged for the service but I did not think anything of it. Wells Fargo declined the charge

I tried to sign up for an address change. I was on my phone versus computer and thought the website looked legit. I signed up for change, paid (without seeing how much, my mistake) and I wake up to my bank statement texts and am down a lot of money and go see that they charged me $180 for address change when I know it is only $1.10. The amount says it's pending.

The website presented itself as an official USPS address change site www.movemyaddressnow.com . The mobile site disclaimer did not mention the $179.95 charge in the disclaimer (i just went back and did a search in the disclaimer), however their desktop site does show it in small dark grey print in the black area at the bottom of the site. We used my phone to submit the change request, so we did not have this information. After submitting the address change information which should cost $1.10, we were charged $179.95 for each person's address change. We lost $359.90 for the two of us. We called the number that our bank gave us that was associated with the charge, and they said they would send a refund. There was no refund, and we had to cancel our debit cards in order to mitigate any further unauthorized withdrawals. The number was 866-377-8008, and we received a follow-up text from 515-501-5495.

I was trying to change my address for a move and received a fraud alert from my bank. They tried to process 179.95 payment and my bank stopped it. Since I entered my debit card information, I’m concerned they will try to use it now for fraudulent activity.

- Pittsburgh, PA, USA

Pretended to be the official USPS site

- Oregon, MO, USA

I was attempting to change my address. Googled "change my address usps" and clicked on the first website. I filled out all my information. Put in my card info, thinking it was just for verification. After mentioning the cost to someone as I was pressing enter, I realized this was a scam and immediately tried to back out. It had already taken the money out of my account. I immediately called my bank and tried to correct the error. They were able to close down my card but were not able to dispute the charge, telling me to contact the scammer. There is no contact info for the scammer.

I tried to change my address through this website but was taken from one website to the usps. Or so I thought. I changed my address but then was charged $180. I tried to call my bank and they said let the charge go through then dispute it as there is nothing we can do before that.

- Jackson, MI, USA

This will be the first website to come up when attempting to change your address via post office. The website looks like a legitimate post office address change for the $1.10 fee, but will then proceed to charge you $179.99 to change your address. There is no contact number for customer service, and no identifying address or location of services.

- Mulberry, FL, USA

Thought I was on the official USPS website, clearly I was not, I went to pay the $1.10 fee and it kept saying it was declined, I tried twice. I went to the account and clearly there was enough for the transaction and then decided to look at the history to see they tried to pull $179.00!!!!

- Lorain, OH, USA

While trying to change my address I typed "USPS change of address" and redirected me to a different site which didn't disclose the amount to be charged
