We experienced an identical scam and email exchanges with this guy Siddartha Gokaram. I even forced him to have a phone call (his accent was more African than Indian, i assumed he could be an Indian who was raised abroad) and later received a check for a higher amount than the rental deposit via Fedex. This guy then sent urgent emails asking me to wire transfer the excess amount. I am glad my bank fraud line reached out and asked us not to make any payments until Fed/ payment banker clears the check (which typically takes 7-10 days). I did a google search and was shocked to see he has been perpetuating identical frauds. Phew.

hanks for the detailed information. I am going to instruct my sponsor to issue out an e Check to you tomorrow. So you can print it out and deposit checks via mobile deposit using your bank app on your phone.What bank app do you use? Like I had explained to you in my previous email there is going to be an extra amount on the check, After the deduction of rent amount. It is meant for my travelling and relocation expenses.

I would have called initially but my present phone has a manufacturer's defect and am waiting to get my replacement phone but you can text me 801-406-6644 for now with any questions.I will also like you to take down the AD on sulekha since we are both confirming. I am going to keep you posted with the check payment tomorrow.

Thanks for the prompt response. To tell you a little about me; I work with BioPharm Laboratories LLC.I am currently in Bluffdale, Utah. I am quiet by nature, I keep away from smoking and drinking. I follow clean and healthy habits, I'm originally from Visakhapatnam AP, India. I appreciate the details you have provided on your room. It definitely helps my judgment since I'm unable to view it in person.

I am happy to pay $915 for the rent as requested. However, I will need your considerable understanding. I can only make my first month's Rent/Utilities payment through check because my company is handling the accommodation fee for the first month, plus other expenses for my relocation. I will be handling all other payments in person afterwards.

Because I'm always in the medical facility and phone calls are not so ideal, the best way to get a hold of me is through text Msg or email. I have attached a copy of my ID for your record and perusal.

Note: the check coming from my company would be a little more than the asking amount, so I would have to entrust you to refund the excess back to me which will go towards my traveling and relocation expenses. If this is clear enough and you are happy to proceed, I will be happy to instruct payment to be made to you immediately.

The person contacted me by seeing my ad for renting the room. He said that he needs it immediately for his daughter and also gave me the details and passport copy of his daughter. He told me that he is going to pay me through check as his employer is taking care of all the relocation expenses. He also mentioned that check would be an overpayment as it includes all relocation and I need to transfer him the remaining amount. I believed him because he said that his daughter needs home as she would be travelling alone from India and he wants it all setup in such pandemic situation. He gave me an e-check which I deposited in my bank account and it got completely processed and I received all the funds in my account. That's when I went ahead and transfer him money through online payment systems. After two days it shows me that bank had declined the check marking it as altered/fictitious. And now even bank is not helping me recover my money.I lost all the money which I transferred to him.
