The representative, Shawn, explained that because it was a last-minute booking, the price shown was likely too low to be honored, and they could only offer a more expensive ticket instead. I asked to cancel the pending order since no ticket had been issued, but Sean informed me that cancellations weren’t possible—only credits for future purchases were offered. I pointed out that the purchase hadn’t even been finalized, no ticket had been provided, and the advertised price seemed misleading and not available. Why list a ticket for sale if it’s not even available? I also asked whether the no-refunded policy was theirs or the airline’s, and Sean claimed it was United Airlines’ policy.
Seeking escalation, I requested to speak with a supervisor, and Sean said the supervisor would call me back in a day or two. I expressed frustration that the website hadn’t disclosed any terms about credits instead of refunds or warned that the ticket might not be available. He kept mentioning that it was their policy, but it wasn't mentioned when I was purchasing. There was no warning either that purchased tickets might not be available. To verify, I contacted United Airlines directly, who confirmed that my name didn’t appear in their system—not even as a pending booking—and assured me they would have issued a refund if there was a record.
Sean, however, insisted that I would be charged and could only use the amount as a credit for a future purchase. I reached out to my bank, who advised me to contact them as soon as any charge appeared, as nothing was visible yet. Adding to my frustration, Sean was unprofessional and rude during our conversation, even questioning my understanding of English in a condescending tone before abruptly hanging up.
This was a very upsetting experience, as I was trying to book a last-minute flight on a tight budget to visit my hospitalized mother. Being left with no ticket and only the possibility of a future credit.
