They called ask for me by name and said they were the US government and I was randomly selected by the government to receive $9000 in grants.

They call and say you relieved a grant $15,496 from us government and then ask a bunch of yes or no questions. I think it's another version of the don't say yes scam.

- Helper, UT, USA

I received multiple phone calls on my cell phone within a 2 day period from different phone numbers, all saying they were with US Government and my phone number was chosen to receive a grant. I refused to offer any bank information, but when asked if I was the owner of the phone and if I was responsible for paying the bill, I said yes. Once I said yes, they no longer continued the calls.

- Bowie, MD, USA

At 11:59am eastern time today, 2-23-17, I received a call from a California phone number 408-600-1337,(ext 144) telling me that I had been selected to be given a grant from the USA government, $9,000(exact number not recorded). Reason being, I have not filed for bankruptcy or had any government action taken against me within the last 6 months. They knew my info; address, email and phone... and kept trying to get me to say "yes" or "OK. To the best of my knowledge I did not say either. The caller's name given was Anthony Foster. The caller had a very thick accent so I doubt that was his given name, and he really sounded like a she. I asked them to email me information ([email protected] the email they had for me) . After I said thank you and hung up on them, I called the number back,, what a surprise it was busy,, you know that rapid busy sound,, I called several times, same.

I received a similar call earlier in the week. It was not from the same number. They hung up when I asked who they were.

- Kissimmee, FL, USA

He called with an eastern accent, telling me I was approved for a grant, I told him I didn't apply for any grant at all, and I asked him where he was calling again...he said from US GOVERNMENT and gave me his address, I said I was not interested and he hang up.

- Sagle, ID, USA

Called me to tell me they had $9000.for me and to go to Walmart and get a $250.00 cash card. Then call them with the information and they would send me my $9000.00

- Milton, FL, USA

this number called me 12 times so I finally answered. He told me I could get a pell grant for $7000 that I didn't  have to pay back. He told me to call 206-112-9611 and talk to Steven Jackson and use code LK107.

I received a phone call, on my caller ID it came up all zero's for a phone number. They told me I won a $9000 government grant and I would not have to pay it back. They gave me an ID #AP706 and to call 315-313-5776. When I called that number they asked me for $250 and once I paid I could go to Western Union to pick up my $9000.

I received a phone call Saturday (11/26/16) stating I had been selected by the US government for a grant that was completely free. Would not have to pay it back. He said the government had randomly chose my name and number to receive $9000.00 without any obligations. He gave me a number that I had to call back (315) 875-7977. And told me to use the code MK414. I knew this was a scam and wanted to get as much information as possible. I dialed the number and told THAT gentleman that I was somewhat skeptical because if something sounds too good to be true, it normally is. He got very upset and hung up on me. I then called him back and said the language barrier was not my problem and I couldn't understand why the government would have someone calling that I couldn't even understand. He gave me the information and of course, at the end stated that I would have to pay $250 that would be fully refunded once that transfer the funds into my account or Western Union. However I prefer. I just don't want someone to be scammed by this caller that would be trusting and/or naïve. As the same man called me again today. But the phone # came up as a "private number".

I received a phone call from a woman informing me I had won a government grant in the sum of over 8k. She said I had been selected randomly along with 1500 other people to receive this money and she gave me a grant ID number. She instructed me to get a couple hundred dollars together and call back. When I was ready, she told me, she would tell me what kind of gift card I needed to purchase in order to release the funds to me.

I received a phone call from someone informing me I had won a Government grant in the sum of around $9,000. I never applied for a government grant. They instructed me to buy a $200 i-Tunes gift card in order to claim my money.

This is the second time I have received a phone call from someone claiming to work for the US government- first claimed to be with the department of Treasury and the second informed me that I had been approved for a grant in the amount of $9200. In order to claim my money, they instructed me to purchase a $200 i-Tunes card and send it back to them. The first time I fell for it. I'm reporting the second call.
