We recieved a lottery card in the mail. My 7 year old son scratched it. It said we won and he wanted to find out what the prize was. We called the number as instructed and were told me would need to participate in a free water testing at out house. We normally have our water tested so we decided to do it to get our prize. They came at 830 at night. Both my husband and myself had to be present. We couldn't put our 7 and 5 year old to bed because of this. They stayed until 1045 at night. Both kids stayed awake and it was challenging. The sales men didn't seem to care. We were respectful. They were very pressing to buy the system. We eventually got them to stop. Then we were told we won a $500.00 gift card and we needed to follow a few small steps. He repeated the fact that we won the 500.00 gift card many times. Also, he said this directly to my son. My son was excited as we won. I completed all the steps, and I even sent the letter as a registered letter to ensure they couldn't scam us. They sent back a membership card to an entertainment discount site. I spent 32 dollars on postage. The card was worth 34 dollars but I had to spend money to make any savings. I called them to complain and tell them I wanted my prize. We completed the process as they intended but they did not. On the phone they told me the following things.

- the prize card said only while supplies lasted but would not tell me how many 500.00 gift cards they actually had.

- then they told me the reorder the gift cards when they run out and they just didn't have any at that time

- they could not provide any list of the amount of prizes they had

- I told them they were a scam and they said that was incorrect language and then I replied with well your salesman had incorrect language when they told use repeatedly that we won a 500.00 gift card.

- I said I was going to report them and they said there was no need to do that. I said well this seems like something I should do since you could do this same scam to an elderly person and that seems wrong. They replied with "we would never do that as it is unethical" and I replied "so how is it ethical to do to us"

there were many more terrible things both the "floor person", "supervisor" and then "manager" said to me on the phone. These scratch cards were sent to everyone. It is terrible. Those scratch cards should have noted how many actual prizes they have. They were knowingly misleading people. That is a scam. It was all a process to get us to buy this water system. They stayed at our house well past when they should have been there, put extreme pressure to buy it, and argued with us when we said no. We didn't buy it because we are well-educated and cautious individuals. The system they were trying to sell us wasn't even what we needed as I had a gentleman from the province inform me what we needed based on the results. We also already have two water systems in our house and our water tests were good.

Someone needs to stop them from doing this to others.

A woman came to my house under the pretense of free water testing for the entire neighborhood. She stated the water would be tested and we would receive a call in a few days. Within two days we received a call informing that our household water tested at 176 TDS and they recommended further testing for free. She informed that the tester could give a specific breakdown of what was in our water, with in-depth numbers and quantities. She was very pushy but I scheduled the tester to come to our home while my husband was home. A man named Tony arrived as scheduled and immediately began asking for items (bowls, glasses, washcloth, towels) to conduct his water testing. It ended up being that he was only selling water filtration systems. From the beginning he was quite rude and aggressive in his approach, including insulting myself, my family, and our parenting. When I asked questions related to water testing or about our water content he ignored the question and simply stated he would "get to that later" and his speech felt very scripted. During his sales pitch he washed our glasses with unknown soap (he would not show us what) and then filled a cup with water that he brought with him from an unmarked container and asked us to drink it. He stated he was only trying to show us how much better the water tasted and to help us do what was best for our family. When we questioned him about the water breakdown he then directed us to a public domain and informed that he could not test anymore than the chlorine and pH (and two other items). Tony did inform that our current TDS was at 78, nowhere near the level of what we were told over the phone. (I took notes while on the phone so I had a reference when the tester arrived.) When we questioned him about being the dishonesty of getting him into our home he became increasingly hostile and aggressive in his demeanor and approach. My husband stated that he felt very targeted in this encounter and Tony admitted they were not doing water testing for the entire neighborhood as we were led to believe but they do approach new home owners (like us). We then told him that this was not going to go any further and he left. The "staff" from HR Water Solutions used scam tactics and fallacies to gain access to our home where our children were present all while trying to get both my husband and I to consume an unknown liquid. It very quickly went from a "free service" to being told the system was only $34/month for the rest of our lives.
