Type of a scam Debt Collections
They told me to call another number for "Sullivan and Associates" at (866) 780-1871 for more details. I called and was told there was a 20 year old debt on a loan that I still owed and there was a January 8th impending court date, at which point they would sue me for $15,000 (their exact words). If I wished to handle my debt and avoid that, I could pay the "original settlement amount that I have avoided". I'll detail that more in another ScamPulse.com report on the other number.
They asked if my address is one that I haven't lived in for about 15 years (on a later call, they asked about an address I lived in about 10 years ago instead). I have asked them for identifying information about their legal business name, main street address, and contact phone number. Each time I have attempted this one of three things happened:
1) I was put on hold indefinitely (at one point, I was on hold for 40 minutes before I hung up that line, which I have a recording of). I called a second time using a different phone while the first phone call was still on hold.
2) I was told to stop being belligerent and aggressive (I was not being such).
3) I was hung up on.
I recorded these calls as is legal in my state.
They kept attempting to verify my address. I avoided as much as I could, using language that made any identifying information clear but they are very good at what they do and I may have let an address or phone number slip (though they called me in the first place so...)
I have been told three times now that since "I refuse to cooperate", "am attempting to avoid my debt", and won't pay up to Sullivan and Associates, I will be served. No one has yet shown up.
