Received same text as described befor from Anna with Angellist offering me a job through whatsapp

- Santa Clara, CA, USA • Apr 05, 2025

I applied for a job during COVID. I was contacted via a chat bot who did a full typing-only interview about my experience. I talked to them this way over weeks. Then, they ended with asking me to go open a bank account and start to purchase my own office equipment, because they wouldn't pay for it, as is conventional. I think that they were just trying to get me to spend money needlessly and/or string me along, causing great pain and suffering.

I can't remember if I was approached by the scammers or if I fell for an ad they posted on social media advertising voice over roles. In order to work with them, you have to contact them via Telegram (already a bad sign). "Carlos Morgan" asked for some generic information about me and described their business, Questel Company. I looked up the company (didn't follow their links, but attempted to conduct research on my own) and everything seemed to check out. They gave me 24 hours to complete a graphic design assignment. I performed the task. I asked them at some point how much they would pay for it. They said upwards of $4K, which seemed high, but also enticing. They said they would pay over PayPal or other forms of payment that I was not familiar with. I completed the task and they told me that I could now work with them on future projects. They then transferred me over to their "Payroll and Support" team who sent me a link to a "bank" that I had to sign up with in order to receive the payment. I had some doubts, but the site looked legit enough that it seemed like it couldn't possibly be a scam. I provided personal information to the site, including my SSN. They have a pending payment of $4K awaiting my retrieval, but, in order to access that payment, I have to pay them $120 to subscribe to this "payment" tool. I have gone in and changed as much information on the "bank" site as possible, however, there is no way to change my SSN at this point. I am still talking with them, requesting they alter my SSN for me, as I "made a mistake when entering my personal information." They're not willing to do so. I've asked them to just delete my account altogether so I can start over with the correct data, but they refuse to. I've started threatening to report them, but they're still trying to get me to pay them the subscription fee.

Saw ad on Craigslist for remote job for $45/hour where you are there to make appointments for clients. Applied and was sent a link to choose interview time. 195 other candidates were on the call. No business name is mentioned until the interview begins. Jacob (founder) begins talking about the company, pulls up a quick picture of the building they reside in, that's the only time you see the company name and address briefly. Then he goes through the website piece by piece, only showing a portion at a time. He uses peoples name a lot on the call to make it more personal. Once I got the company name, I opened up another tab and began looking up weather or not it was a scam, and saw many other posts about others having a similar experience. I exited the webinar at that point. I'm not sure if they ended up asking for money or not, I didn't want to waste any more of my time

I applied for a position on Indeed titled “Data Entry Clerk - Remote/Full Time” with Edgewood Healthcare. Around 24 hours after applying, I received an email stating I was chosen for an interview and I needed to download the Signal app and reach out to a Mr Fred Zamora. I had a back and forth conversation with Mr Zamora that was supposedly my “interview”. I grew more and more suspicious as the conversation progressed. I thought I was contacting this gentleman to set up a phone or video interview. This was purely a text chat “interview”. I have now cut contact with the company, but I assume the ultimate goal was to gain my routing and account number for my bank account for “direct deposit” of my pay for this fake job.

My name is Brian Lang (Director, Human Resources at Comcast Connectivity and Platforms) I'm 45 yrs old, lost my wife to breast cancer last year and so it is a fresh start for me. I am moving to your area in few weeks with my adorable dogs and I really need a honest and responsible care for my pets Zeus & Luke. Our furry babies are friendly, Zeus (1 year, 2 months) is a German shepherd, My late wife got him in London while Luke is a Labrador Retriever, 1 year 8 months , he is also very much comfortable with other dogs and cats too. He enjoys going for walks. Luke's very favorite activity is catching balls outside, he plays well with other dogs too. Zeus & Luke are both house trained and crate trained..... and have contacted a supplier for the dog's Cage, toys, blankets, food, bed.and other things that might be needed.

Zeus & Luke means the world to me .I need someone who will have walk schedules, pet sitting, feeding and care for them. Your services will include you visiting my home to care for the dogs and you can also do overnight visits if you wish. Because of the nature of my work, I will also be open to letting them stay at yours after you get to bond with him well of course.

Reason for hiring ASAP is because I got transferred to your city and we are in the process of relocating to the area. That's why we seek to hire with couple of things regarding our relocation too.

The text message had someone contact me via WhatsApp. They were from OneBeyond App, using data optimization to rate other Apps like Teams and others. The first few days were fine, but they claim you have to put in your own money so it looks like real people are doing the rating. $20.00 here and there didn't seem bad, like playing a game on your phone. Day five when you are supposed to get paid $800 for the week, took months, and I lost $140,000. The first time I tried to withdraw there was $48.626 in the account. They said I had to upgrade to another VIP level, it would cost $25,000 then I could withdraw all the funds. I put in $25,000 then I had to complete 5 more orders in order to activate the new level. That was another $60,000. Tried to withdraw again and had to upgrade to another level for another $50,000. I couldn't put in any more money at that point. The "supervisor" or "mentor" had continued adding money, at this point to get extensions and said she had the balance of $25,000 if I could do $8,000 then we could withdraw the money. So I did the $8,000 and within an hour the WhatsApp OneBeyond Group and Mentor went dark and the App went down.

I applied for a position work from home online on LinkedIn I had an interview via Microsoft Teams messenger. The “company” sent me a 69,000.00 check for equipment and I walked the check in to my bank to check on fraudulent activity and I was right. I then contacted the supervisor to whom I was speaking with he stated he would ship me the equipment needed. No more conversation after the bank incident from him.
