All Keys Locksmith technician quoted $300, then demanded $1200 and disabled our key fob.
I work at a business that rents vehicles. We had a technician from All Keys Locksmith come out on 2/13/23 to program a key fob to one of our vehicles; the employee stated it would be $300 to do this service, and we gave him the go ahead. When he came back into our office he stated it would be $1200 with no tangible explanation on why the price would increase by a factor of 4. When given push back he reduced the price to $800, when we pushed back on that price again he said he could do $500, and again, when we pushed back on that he said $400 was the lowest he can go. Realizing that this was a very suspicious situation, and not going to pan out in a straight forward fashion, we told the tech that we will not be needing his services.
The tech refused to leave until we paid him a $69 appointment fee. We, regrettably, gave him the money to get out of our hair. Before the tech left he cleared the registered VIN on our key fob, effectively making the key useless.
In the days following this, we called out multiple other lock smiths who were all unable to fix this issue. When I called the dealership and explained what happened, they also said they would not be able to reregister the key and we’d have to get a new one and or replace the vehicle’s PCM (powertrain control module), which essentially is the vehicle’s brain—it manages the engine, transmission and other systems based on information it receives from various sensors around the vehicle. In short, it was going to be a costly repair, and take our vehicle off the road for a minimum of 30 days because of back ordered parts.
On 2/16/23 we had to call these guys back, because they were the only ones who could reverse this. The tech who came on this visit charged us $212, which again, was a higher price than he told us upon arrival ($170), however we sucked up our pride and paid the man because we were truly cornered and had no cheaper option.
Ultimately, these guys got $281 from us, and that is all they will ever get. We have a large fleet of vehicles, and we're looking to add a new locksmith maintenance partner for our Las Vegas branch. This has—without a doubt, been the most disappointing and unprofessional experience we’ve had with any automotive related business both past and present in our company’s history. All Keys Locksmith has permanently lost all of our trust, respect, and business.
