Type of a scam Online Purchase
We travel from California to Europe every summer, most often to Greece. This year the air fares are extremely high, more than double what we have paid in prior years. I research the various travel search websites as well as each individual airline for itineraries and costs.
I happened onto the bestticketfares.com site via Gorillaflights. I found an itinerary on KLM from LAX to Athens, Greece. The total cost was about one third less than other sites I reviewed. I carefully read the accompanying flight restrictions and booking policies. The tickets were non transferrable and non refundable. Any changes would incur administrative fees. We were firm with our travel dates so I proceeded to book the two tickets ($2,424.50) at 11:39AM, 12/27/2023.
A person named “******” called me later that same day, at 2:46PM, stating he was following up on the reservation I made earlier. He advised me that the tickets I purchased did not allow any bags - no carry on bag, no personal bag, no checked bag. This information was not included in the website’s description of restrictions, policies or anywhere on the itinerary.
Our trip is four weeks long and obviously we need to check bags. My husband is a Type 1 diabetic and must have his medical supplies with him at all times. “******” quickly said that he could look for tickets on a different flight that would allow bags. He offered us tickets on Air Canada for $1,428.45 more than the tickets I had already purchased. Like most people, we have to be careful with our money and being seniors, even more so. I complained about the misrepresentation/omission of no bags allowed on the website and asked instead to cancel the tickets.
“******” advised that there was a $500 fee per ticket to cancel. $1,000 in total.
He then presented a second flight offer, also with Air Canada, that was $228 less than the first offer, included carry on bags and option to pay for checked bags.
He sent me an email along with the suggested itinerary and requested that I immediately respond with a confirmation so that he could process the new tickets:

Summary - Bestticketfares already charged me $2424.50 for tickets that don’t allow any bags. Now they want to charge me another $3624.95 for a new itinerary that does allow carry on bags and the option to pay for checked bags.
We responded that we are not accepting the new itinerary:
“My husband and I agree that BESTTICKETFARE is a rip off and illegal - nowhere on the site did it mention no luggage - checked or carry on allowed for the tickets I purchased. I made the reservation just hours ago based on the flight information included on your website. I am requesting an immediate refund of $2,424.50 based on the misrepresentation of the flight restrictions, the absence of no luggage allowed.
No, we do not accept the changes below. Do not charge my credit card.”
Our bank notified us of a possible fraudulent charge of $3,272.80 at 3:32pm. We responded that no, this charge was not authorized. The Bank cancelled our card.
I cannot begin to articulate how very disgusted I am with this website. While very disappointed with the escalated cost of flying, the fact that there are people behind websites just waiting to prey upon an unknowing public.
Is this Bestticketfares legitimate????
Airlines are required to provide information about their baggage fees through: 1) a clear link from the airline’s homepage to a page or place on the airline’s website that displays all of the airline’s baggage fees and other optional service fees, and 2) a link on the first screen that appears with a fare quotation for a specific itinerary.
I am providing Bestticketfares with this documentation along with Consumer Affairs for Travel and social media.
