Scammer sent exact language as described in here. Stated that my first assignment would be sent out via UPS tomorrow for my first assignment. Because I had no idea what this job entailed, I started researching the company listed in the email and found all of this information which exactly matches what was sent to me. This place must be getting the info from headhunter websites. Once I realized that I had never applied to this company, it's when I began researching the company itself. At least this literally just happened so any attempts to learn my personal info will not work.

I was contacted about a job writing for a non-profit company, up to 35 hours a week. Sounded like a fun side gig, so I said I was interested. They wanted me to download a phone app called Wire and contact "Mandy Skye" through the app, which I did. She said she wanted to do a 45-minute text-only interview through the Wire app, which sounded odd, but I agreed. The interview consisted of four open-ended questions about my career, which I answered. This was the evening of March 16, 2023.

The next day, Mandy Skye notified me through the Wire app that I had won the job! She said their HR department was going to email me papers to print, fill out, then email back, including my bank account information so they could deposit my hourly salary into my account. I was then called by someone saying they were from the True Sense HR department, telling me they had just emailed me over the papers I needed to fill out. I asked if I could speak with someone about the job, to have some questions answered before I agreed to take the job. The HR person assured me this is how they do it with everyone. Just fill out the information and send it back, and we'll go from there. So I filled out the forms and send them back, with the uneasy feeling that something wasn't quite right about this job offer. That was Friday, March 17, 2023.

On Monday, March 20, Mandy Skye contacted me again through the Wire app. This is exactly what she wrote:

"Alright, We are to proceed with having your devices purchased and shipped to you, once you have received your devices I’ll be introducing you to your supervisors and team, you will then be briefed on your official start date. Meanwhile the finance department will be processing a check for you, Let me break it down for you. The check is to cover the cost of purchasing the mobile device and the other devices you’ll be using for work which is (The MacBook laptop the printer and headsets as well). The company will be providing funds for your working devices, Payroll is currently having issues with direct deposit so they would have an image of the check being issued to you sent to me and you can proceed to have it deposited remotely. I hope this won’t be a problem?"

Here was my answer to her:

"Since we haven’t had the chance to formally work together, I’m sure you’ll understand that I don’t feel comfortable investing in a MacBook and mobile device upfront. So here is what I propose: I can use my current MacBook and smart phone until your payroll team can get me the funds. Or if they want to purchase the appropriate equipment online and have it shipped to me, that’s fine, and removes the need to transfer funds."

That was the last time I heard from anyone at True Sense. And I hadn't thought about it again until I saw a very similar story reported here and realized that maybe I wasn't the only one they tried to scam.

I did not actually lose the 1495, but I was promised the amount in order for me to purchase computer equipment and software. They screwed around with my bank account and personal information until the bank finally called me about all of the activity .when I told Bank what was going on. The Bank representative told me it was probably a scam. I just wanna make sure whether it is or isn’t before I pursue it.

They tried to offer my family member a job without conducting an interview and stated that the position was remote. They also stated to contact the HR department to be hired and left no number or email to contact anyone. We searched up the business on Google and they only have 1 review from May 15 suggesting that this a great place to work at.

I found a personal assistant job on linked in. I got a text the next day saying I was hired. It started to sound fishy so I googled his phone number and found this page. It sounds like he’s still running the same scam.

Applied with the company via Indeed a week or so prior, and assumed this was an interview opportunity. Seemed pretty legit outside of not having any type of virtual interview. Wanted to send a check to setup a mini office for the role. That should have been a flag. Such a waste of time.

Scammer named Village of Hillside and Dasia Martinez sent me a check to pay for work equipment and after being processed my bank told me it was a job scam and that I will be affected by it. I found the company on Upwork and she even sent me a short video of her face and ID to confirm her identity. Now my Upwork account is being randomly opened, my bank is overdrafted and they have my address.

Saw job posting on a military spouse employment group for a remote position with flexible hours with Nielsen llc. I was provided a code for a telegram interview. Asked random questions and felt like it was a scam afterwards. I was told my info would be sent over to hiring manager for further review. I did not give out my dob or any bank account numbers but they asked what bank I use.

Received a text from Andy Whitfield (240-547-2579) about a remote data entry position and speak to the Interview manager Helen McCarthy through Signal app. 912-470-7489. Ms. Helen gave me the company information. PatientIQ 350 W Ontario St 3rd Floor, Chicago, IL 60654. I had to answer 15 questions. So I passed the test and received a check from Ellen Morgan payroll department issued a check for $3,960. her email. Account.Manager@AOL. The outside of the envelope address had the name Vileecia Scott 5236 Electric Ave San Bernardino 92407. It did not have the company address. Check is Progressive payable through PNC Bank NA 070 Ashland OH. This check is for me to purchase offense materials. laptop, printer, headphones, and software. Anyways I took it to the bank and it's a fraud. Luckily the manager spotted it to be a fraud before I had it deposited.

I also report this to the Federal Trade Center. No one should send you a check to start a job.

I received an application response for a data entry freeelancer job on a Friday and was happy to see that I have an interview. I applied thru job search engine. The message was thru that website to contact directly the personnel thru a chat platform for an interview. I already have a job but seeking for additional one as i have some time to spare. Since this was my first time after a long time to do work applications, i was excited to venture this new job opportunity.

Things are going smoothly as a regular interview would go but thru the chat platform. The company provided seems legit as i seen on the website. Upon reaching an agreement about job task and compensation, later during the day on the employment contract, a flick of concern befall me. It was regarding the company providing a check for me to purchase equipment for data entry from a company vendor. I asked why that is so if company can just pay for it and ship it to me and she mentioned it is done for all other freelancers across other projects and easier this way. She said all expenses be paid by the company. Although i had a bit of doubt, my wishful feeling overcame and still continued with the process. Not until the next day Saturday upon mobile check clearing my account, when transferring funds to a so called said company vendor that it really got very concerning. During partial fund transfers, my bank institution system place a hold on transfers probably due to a note i placed there " equipment payment for data entry" and upon calling the bank agent they informed me about recently employment frauds. I informed the agent that it seems company is legit. There were 2 batches of transactions as we staggered the payment. So the first transactions went thru since i said to go ahead even though i was informed about it. Then the second batch of transfers went on hold again and once again i spoke with the bank agent. however this time around, a diligent bank agent gave more clarity and informed me as well that there are recent employment frauds of the same nature and a mobile check deposit normally goes thru overnight BUT within 3-5 days the check may bounce bank making the process of transferring funds out of my own money instead of the funds in the check as that hasn't completely cleared up yet. I was ignorant on that. Knowing this latest information, i cancelled the 2nd batch of transfer and informed the employment contact. She kept asking for the continuation of the transaction on thru Sunday but i informed i will not continue transfer until check clears up. And true enough by Monday afternoon, the check bounced and i lost some $ from the first transaction.

My wishful thinking changed to doubt and fear and then later resentment. Only then did i know, that I fell victim to a scam/fraud. If i should had read and got informed about these type of scams, i could had seen it a mile away. They are good. They seem to know their work around questions and possible scenarios. It was my fault not getting enough information about these type of things. It was a learning experience that i will never forget and take for granted. Good thing there's a bank security process in place to avoid these type of frauds. Company and names are not given here since i believe they just used them as a process of their scam. The job search engine also removed the job posting the next day due to incompliance with their TOS,

Hope those applying for employment especially remote ones are looking at these frauds/scam updates to avoid being victimized like me.
