Home Warranty Direct Reports & Reviews (72)

I received multiple letters in the mail stating that my home warranty was about to expire. I do in fact have a home warranty so it made sense to me to resign. Turns out my warranty was 2 years away from expiring and I signed up for a second home warranty. A couple months later I saw I was paying for 2 home warranties, I confirmed with the original warranty provider that I still had a plan and then I called home warranty direct. While I was on hold I googled the company and saw that hundreds of thousands of Californians had been sent the same letter and the California department of insurance made home warranty direct refund anyone in the same situation I was in. When my call was finally answered I asked to cancel my warranty and a refund for the months I paid for 2 warranty’s. The guy on the phone tried to convince me that his warranty was better and when I told him I wasn’t interested in doing business with the company that tricked me, he said he’ll cancel my warranty and immediately hung up without letting me ask for a refund. Waste of several hundred dollars. I don’t live in California so not expecting a refund. SREW HOME WARRANTY DIRECT

I receive one of these every now and then. OBVIOUSLY A SCAM - there's no company name or return address. Scare tactics include lines like "Immediate Response Requested," "Call immediately as this will be our Final Attempt to Contact You," etc.

I just toss these into the recycle bin but I'm sure some people fall for this sort of thing and end up losing money.

SOLICITATIONS LIKE THIS MAKE ME *FURIOUS*.

I'd love to see these criminals and others like them SHUT DOWN AND FINED for engaging in this sort of despicable, exploitative behavior.
'Home Warranty Division FINAL NOTICE' Scam Letter

I’ve received several letters telling me that my home warranty is about to expire or may HAVE expired & I may still have time to sign up to reactivate my home warranty from CCHW HOME WARRANTY DIVISION. Today I got a “FINAL NOTICE” in the mail that contained a “registration fee voucher” check for $199.00 that would expire in seventeen days from now. I have NEVER had a warranty plan with them! These letters & “check” is a total scam!
Fake home warranty letter/check

Got a final notice, a check for $199.00, plus my bank mortgage specialist letter from "Home Warranty Direct" (HWD). It looks legit, so I called and talked to Joe from HWD immediately. He said HWD is located in California and the previous account was set up directly from my Bank to HWD. It needs to be renewed in order to get the services. I was shocked because my Bank never mentioned anything about HWD services to my attention. I called my Bank and she said, few people have already called her about HWD services; therefore, do not give any personal info out since my Bank does not have any clue about HWD. I called HWD back and talked to Karla, she said, HWD is located in S. Carolina, not California and the service needs to be renewed; otherwise, everything will be paid out of pocket if things go wrong. I told Karla that my Bank does not know who HWD is and none of my accounts have opened so. I asked Karla to delete all my info, do not sell it to a third party, and she hung up. But I called back, this time it was Joe again. I offered to send the HWD $199.00 fake check in return and Joe refused to give the address. First, he said, just send it to my Bank. Second, just disregarded it. Third, have a nice day and he hung up.

These jerks keep sending me an urgent notice that I need to contact them immediately re: my home warranty "may" be expirng and they even sent a "renewal check". I never had a warranty, so I knew this was a scam! They keep sending me the same notice, the same check, etc. Getting tired of it. The US government/postal service should charge them with fraudulent ads and fake checks!

Got a letter claiming my home warranty might be about to expire and I needed to call immediately as this was a final notice. A check for $199.00 was also attached as a " registration fee voucher". The name of my mortgage holder was on the letter as well so they're educated grifters.
Home Warranty expiring

Letter included full address as well as a Google Streets image of the intended victim's house. Letter included a fake check. Front of letter falsely implied that it came from official county records. Letter does not indicate the senders name or address anywhere.

I refinanced my mortgaged in January of this year, I've gotten so many "home warranty" mailings, but have died down until today, Today I got HOME Warranty Direct, they deceptively sent the mailing stating final notice , but this mailing looked like a check. I called the number and person that answered was an [censored], I questioned him on why I received this junk he was going on and on about how he's in the sales department.. I just ended the call.

Like others, I received a flyer from Home Warranty Direct. Comments on this website convinced me that it most likely was a scam, so I did not call its phone number (1-800-301-5412.). There was no information on details of the home warranty in the flyer. A legitimate home warranty company would have provided some details, such as what is the monthly fee and what the warranty covers, The flyer included a registration fee voucher for $199, which is a gimmick to get you to call.

I got the same letter from Home Warranty Direct. Only it came as a post card. All of my information was on it so anyone could have seen it. I am very upset about this. Main reason being is that I don't own a home, therefore I do not owe any mortgage. This is so pathetic. Something needs to be done to these people. Before they really take a lot more from anybody!

They send a voucher in the mail and get you to call them. They claim your warranty on your home may have expired and they can get you a warranty again. No inspection needed for the warranty, but there are unknown eligibility requirements. And they reserve the right to revoke your eligibility after 5 days. This is the 4th letter I received from said company. And the 4th time I've tried to be taken off their mailing list. The Customer Service Representative was very rude and argued with me. There was no mention of a recording being made of the phone call.

Called my registered do not call number about a home I don't even own, then rudely hung up on me. I would like to file for them violating the federal do not call law.

The company “Home warranty direct” used the name of my lender and my home address to target me for the scam. I received a letter in bold letters EXTREMELY URGENT and TIME SENSITIVE - IMMEDIATE RESPONSE REQUESTED . I called the number that was given to me in the letter and they impersonated my lender and attempted to pressure me into purchasing a home warranty. I received little education on the benefits associated with their policy and was routed to a “supervisor” who was going to give me a better rate because I am a first time home buyer. This person who refused to give me his name became upset with me when I asked if I could call back after I go over the details of my current policy and his company‘s policies. He asked me in a condescending tone “ were you not taking notes when the sales agent was talking to you” “ We cannot give you any more time to go over the policy because we have a A+ rating with the ScamPulse.com and 30 years of experience in this field and in order to maintain this rating we cannot allow you to call back because then you could file a fraudulent claim”. I responded with “ I have no copy of your policies in front of me to directly compare your company with my current supplier of home warranty, how could you expect me to make an educated decision on what is best for myself and my family”. He became irate and told me that I should’ve been paying more attention when the sales agent, who I was on the phone with for less than 5 minutes, was talking to me and that I needed to purchase this warranty because they offer a $15,000 limit for repairs on a single item and that an educated person would see the value in that”. Throughout this entire conversation this “supervisor” stated over and over that they were affiliated with my lender and operated with them for 30 years and if I couldn’t see that paying into this home warranty was going to benefit me then I was not intelligent .

Got mail from home warranty direct stating my home warranty was about to expire. Called the number as I am a first time home owner. Didn’t think to look up the location/business as my mortgage lender/photo of my house/my address/my information was on the notice. Cancelled my credit card immediately.

Have sent us 3 letters with "urgent" "final notice" about our home warranty expiring, which is not true. They have our names, home address, mortgage lender name, and even a photo of our home printed on the letter. One letter contained a fake "registration fee voucher" that looks like a check but has no bank information on it and does have in very small print "this is not a check." I can only imagine someone elderly or not fluent in English quickly falling for this scam.

This letter is to inform you that the property's home warranty, *my address* secured by *My Mortgage Company* may be expiring or may have already expired.

Our records indicate that you HAVE NOT CONTACTED us yet to get your Home Warranty up to date.

Please Call IMMEDIATELY as this will be our FINAL ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY YOU 1-800-298-5442.

Then they list out a record ID, my lender information, and a "Registration Fee Voucher" attached to the bottom.

THIS IS A SCAM!

I received a letter with a PICTURE OF MY HOUSE on the envelope (albeit it is of poor quality and b/w) announcing the name of my BANK (which is why it caught my attention and startled me) saying "FINAL NOTICE" and telling me to respond before the date expires (two weeks). It says that my home (and lists the address) is secured by my bank (noted and accurate) and says my home warranty is "not up to date" and I must 'CALL IMMEDIATELY." I need to have my home warranty in place, it says, because I am at "risk" and financially liable for all repairs, etc. It tells me to call 1-800-298-5442. When I did, they answered only "warranty department" and it sounded like a giant phone bank of young people talking to people on the phone. The gal who answered wouldn't tell me anything! She said they won't give out their company address! I told her she is doing business with the public, across the United States, and how could they not tell me where they are located? That is when she got a little perterbed and I told her it sounds like a big scam to me. I hung up and now am reporting it to you. However, I was surprised BBB.org didn't have a report on this company. Please put one in your system. I know I am not the only person who received this. They would only tell me they are located in Orange County, CA.

This isn't technically a "home improvement" scam, but your drop down didn't give me any other closer choice to choose from. I received a letter in the mail from "Home Warranty Direct" which is on bright pink letterhead and says "Home Warranty Division" and "IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO THIS NOTICE REQUESTED." It is "informing" me that my property's home warranty may be expiring or may have already expired and I need to call a toll-free number (800-272-5308) IMMEDIATELY. It goes on to say without a home warranty in place, I am at risk of being financially liable for any and all repairs, but I can still get coverage - from them - while there is still time. When I called this toll-free number, the phone was answered "The Warranty Department" (generic!) A rude and unprofessional female hung up on me after I asked a simple question - where are they located (they do not have their address or a website on their mailing!). The gal responded, "Where am I located? Why would I tell you that?! I don't know where you are located, so why would I tell you where I am?!" And then she hung up. I called back and a male answered. I told him of the rude and unprofessional representative who hung up on me after I asked where they were located and he said he, too, couldn't tell me that information and asked why I needed it! I told him "You're doing business with the public! You should be transparent!!" If they won't tell me where they are, how would they expect me to do business with them? He said "well, unfortunately that is not information they can share." I told him I will rip up the flyer and not do business with them because they are a scam! Then, I hung up on THEM!! (By the way, they said on the phone that they had " a lot of locations all over the U.S." and when I pressed for their home office, they said it was in Costa Mesa, CA. However...nothing can be found on it when you google that name! Not in CA or anywhere. SCAM!!!
