- Stoneville, NC, USA

I went online to search for a property at Ocean Lakes Campground to rent for a family vacation this summer. One of the first sites to come up when searching using Google was a website with the Ocean Lakes Campground logo, however; it was connected to a realty company, Joyce Bradley Vacation Rentals. I received an email stating that the property I had inquired about was available. I followed the instructions given to me and listed the number of guests which would be staying, ages, etc. All correspondence was done via email, which looked very professional and legitimate. I was instructed to send payment via a website called Fiverr and it was emphasized that I follow all instructions carefully. The realtor provided a link for this transaction and I followed instructions, paying the entire amount for the rental. I became sceptical when a friend told me that they were scammed last year under pretty much the same circumstances. I tried several time to reach said realtor by phone with no success. I left voicemails asking them to return my calls stating I needed to verify some information to which they responded via email asking just what I needed to verify. I told them that I needed to make sure they were a legit realtor and that this was a real property. I told them that I had become skeptical when no one would answer my calls. I then received an email stating they would issue a full refund and that it may take 3 to 5 business days. I went to my local SECU branch to file a dispute where I was told to give them time, the 3 to 5 days, to issue the refund. If I had not received a refund within that time, we would begin the scam dispute. The charge was taken off my credit card pending a response from the realtor. I received a letter from the bank stating they heard from Fiverr and they claimed to know nothing about a vacation rental, and I had purchased a logo from them, complete with an invoice which they provided the bank. I assumed that Fiverr was a financial institute which processed payments for the realty company. I never purchased anything directly from them.
