named "Kat" phone number 416-613-9380 ext 209 claiming to be authorized OHWC to collect some moneys related to the above issue no mention of how much when i mentioned that i had contacted my MPP (they claim it is a fraud) the better buisness bureau and the OPP she said she would look into it and call right back. no retun call was made
Bank info wanted
She advised to visit https://ontariowarranty.ca website to get more information about their organization. This "Municipal Home Warranty" has decent website but there is no much real information in there regarding detail terms and conditions. Looks like this is a virtual office at Regus company at 4711 Yonge St 10TH FLR
4711 Yonge St, North York, ON M2N 6K8. I tried to call 1-888-204-4206 but after waiting for an answer for approx. 10 minutes hang up.
Does not look like a legitimate service company working on behalf of provincial government. I did not ask them directly if this is a spam but to me it looked like very so. Besides I just looked through all reports below so i am convinced now that they just tried to get my bank info.
claiming to rebate a $88 carbon cash payment. They had my name and address correctly and gave a reference number to legitimize the call. All they would need is either your saving or chequing account number to deposit the fund. Caller stated no information is kept on their system, however as you probe into more details as to why this is being offered to Ontario home owners through the Ontario government they rhyme off a bunch of privacy laws, etc. when I probed them some more they offer to transfer you to someone else. Please be aware this is a SCAM, the government will never call you to get your financial info.
Similar experience to below ... provided a security code to give me access to a recording of the conversation, along with her name Katherine ("with a K") Mason ... both of which were for MY protection ... I told her I too could call someone and say I was Katherine Mason and give them a bogus security number (and even if I could listen to the recording, it doesn't legitimize the call). Bottom line - she wanted my banking details and she said that since I'd only be providing the digits on the bottom of my cheque, it's for deposit purposes only and they can't do anything with the information ... that doesn't even make sense ... although she made it sound legit (like the Seinfeld episode with Jerry's girlfriend Niki, for those who get the reference). "Katherine" also kept citing some Act, saying that they were bound by that Act and all the legal clauses associated with it. This is one of the better scams I've heard ... usually I hang up with a cheerful "f you", but this was structured in a way I wanted to listen to see how it would unfold. "Katherine" was very well spoken and persistent, but there is no doubt this is a scam. No legitimate organization will call you to give you money for free, and also service your appliances for free, all in support of a happy environment. Absolutely breaks my heart to think that there will be seniors and vulnerable people falling victim to these character-void a-holes. Truly despicable.
Don S.
Since he mentioned this was a home warranty program I asked if it was Tarion which he denied. He kept saying it was a government program.
He knew my address and my name and what type of dwelling I have. Kept insisting that he would sign me up(without my agreeing to such a thing(high pressure tactic?)) A few minutes in said the call was being recorded.
He kept saying he was calling from Ontario but he didn't want to reveal the city so I asked if he was calling from Jamaica. Finally, he said he was calling from Thunder Bay(which I highly doubt) and said his name was Marvin Dixon.
The pitch was that the warranty was free for two weeks and that I could get ALL my appliances fixed during that time and then cancel if I wanted. If the labour took longer than the two weeks I was covered. When I said I was incredulous he said I was a "smart man." The fee was $ 59.95 and I could cancel anytime.
I said your offer is too good to be true and he finally gave up. It lasted about 12 minutes and he called from a Toronto number, 647-905-0255.
Well today I went through the process reported earllier. Actually identical to almost all of these reports. the telephone number was 647-905-0255. I have to admit she was good. She had me wrapped until she asked for deposit information. I guess because I am skeptical of unsolicited phone calls which is enhanced when offered "free" money, I went through a lengthy discussion, This went on for sometime and I didn't buy her argument that sending out Void cheques provided the same info. Relatively polite but tried to talk during my questioning. Fun and games unless you buy into this scamming. I am disillusioned that they are allowed to put ut up such a smooth web site. I went down several sites to find this one.
