NAME agreed to paint our house with an agreed upon start date and targeted finish date. After power-washing our house for half a day we never saw him again. His excuses were all health-related for him and his painting crew. On the first day of the scheduled job he informed us that one of his crew had covid so none of them could come paint; then a week later, he said he had bronchitis and would not be able to come for a few days; then one crew member could not come because he had a bubble in his cornea and could not drive, then the project manager was "self-medicating," so she was not able to come; then Rob had acute bronchitis, then he had "foreign objects" in his lungs, then a viral infection from mold, then a need to see pulmonologist, then an ulcer that needed a specialist that would take a couple of days to follow up with. He would promise to come on a certain date and just not show up, call or email. Though he claimed he was in a great deal of pain, and taking 7 or 8 drugs, he promised to come "as soon as possible" but could not commit to a start date.This is a painter with 3 employees who could not come paint because they were also having health issues. When it became clear after 23 days of delay, that he would miss the target date (a family wedding at our home), we asked for our money back, which he had promised to do in the event he was unable to work due to his health, before we contracted with him in November 2023. One week after we advised Rob that we did not think his precarious state of health would allow him to do our job, and asked for a refund. we saw him on a ladder painting a house in another town. It was later revealed in a Facebook post that he had taken money, but not fulfilled the paint job, to two other local individuals. Rob seems to not have a permanent address, moving from hotels, to airbnbs, to friends' places. This makes it nearly impossible to take him to court or track him down. And having health-related problems makes it impossible to obtain proof of his and his crews' illnesses and ailments, due to privacy laws.
