They left a voice mail saying my social security number had been suspended due to suspicious activity and to press 1 to find out details. I did not press 1 I deleted the message. Social security does not have my cell phone number which makes me think this is a scam.

This telephone scam seems to be a re-run of a scam that first appeared in 2017,

when the FTC heard from 3,200 people who had been defrauded. It seems to have

popped up again in late 2018, with more than 35,000 reports and now again in 2019.

This is an apparent telephone scam to attempt to obtain personal data with the caller posing as an agent

of "the Social Security Office". A person pretending to be with the administration calls

victims and says their social security number is "about to be suspended" due to suspicious activity.

I recvd a voice message on my answering machine April 12, 10:04 am :

the message was garbled at times but I could clearly hear :

"your social security number is about to get suspended"

"extremely time sensitive"

"the hotline to our agent is 315-257-2450"

it was an odd accent and echos in the background made it sound like a "boiler room call center"

(ask the "old guys" what a "boiler room" is LOL )

315-257-2450 is in Seneca Falls, NY but this is almost certainly a spoofed VOIP number.

this is apparently the same scam/ interstate telephone crime that has been going around since 2017

My wife and I have had several calls just recently from someone claiming to be from the Social Security Office. It's just a recorded message, a male voice, not foreign accent. The recording says there is a problem with my social security number and I need to contact them. We never called back of course, because I know better than to give somebody that information. We report it to the BBB.

Elderly woman received a phone call from phone number 281-940-8332 with a Texas caller ID, claiming to be the Social Security Office in Texas.

The caller said that there was activity on her card, someone had been using her information/identification in Texas.

Caller asked to confirm information; Name, Address, Birth Date and Social Security Number. Some information got confirmed but then she realized it was a scam and hung up before reconfirming anything else.

The caller was very polite, well spoken with an accent, and sounded like he was working out of a call center.

The person with a thick accent call my office phone (city of Cleveland) and stated that he was from the Social Security office and that I had committed a fraud and I would be arrested. After I stated the City of Cleveland the person hung up the phone. I really do not want any elderly people to give this person any personal information.

They say you have a warrant for arrest and ask for your social security number to verify who you are. I know it's not legal to ask for that and hung up

I have gotten these phone calls twice now. Today I answered the phone and received the same familiar message that my social security nuber had been suspended and to get further details on this case to press 1. Once i pressed one a message came on to inform me that i was being transferred to an officer. Once someone answered, in an India type accept, I stated "Are you aware that this is a scam and you need to stop calling my phone" The answer i got back was "ok, go [censored] yourself" and they hung up.

The two times i received the phone calls where as follows:

2/16/19 phone number 866-404-5478 at 3:23pm

2/19/19 phone number 866-404-3629 at 10:54am

- Springfield, OH, USA

I received a call from the Social Security Office on 11/30/18 stating they found some fraudulent activities filed on my social security number and I need to call them as soon as possible. I called and they ask my name then they ask for my social security number. Red flags went up!!! I blocked the number. I received another call 1/31/19 @ 4:29 for the same fraudulent activities. I told them I was recording this call and they hung up. I contact the FTC and reported them. Both calls were foreigners. The second call came from New York, NY. Thank you
