- Melbourne, KY, USA • Nov 22, 2024

I received a call on 11/20/24 @ 12:24pm. The scammer left a voice mail message. The voice was a computerized/robotic woman's voice. The message stated "This is a courtesy call for Spectrum customers. We are running a promotion to help our customers to lower down their bills. If you are looking to lower down your bill, press 1 to speak to our promotion department. Thank you."

I believe this is a scam because 1) I am not a Spectrum customer and haven't been for at least 5 years, 2) The fake voice and poor grammar used in the message, and 3) I think the number that showed up in my caller id has been spoofed. I did a Google search on the phone number and two of the results seem to imply that the phone number is for a Venice, FL resident/individual and not a business.

I received a phone call today stating they were from Spectrum and my 40% discount has being canceled. If I want it reinstated to call 202-341-5975 which I did. They would reduce my payment to $138.00 a month for 3 years if I paid $552 for 4 months and then in February of 2025 the $138.00 would take place. They had my charge card and billed me for $552.

I looked up the number for Spectrum on my phone to try and lower my bill. I found the number 771-772-0146 and followed the prompts to billing. The rep had a slight accent and said he could lower my bill by $100 per month. He said that Spectrum was running a promotion with Target and I would have to do something today to get the deal. I was told to get 2 Target gift cards for $200 each at Walmart or Giant Eagle. I was instructed to call him by 4:00 today with the gift card numbers. His name is Ron Hills and his number is 888-556-0056, extension 761 in billing. I would then not have to pay Spectrum until February of 2025 and then only pay $95.00 per month. It seemed too good to be true so I called BBB.

I received a text on August 8 stating Spectrum had a 40% reduction in my monthly bill. My bill would be $25.00 a month for 4 years. They wanted 2 years of payment up front which is $600. I didn't pay this and called Spectrum and they said it was a scam.

Was told that my promotional offer was ending however call us and we can get you another one. They offered me better Internet for $35 a month if I paid for 12 months in advance and used to target gift cards for $210 a piece. Call spectrum to verify the information they even used my Visa card that was on record with spectrum to authorize a $4.99 fee. Very convincing until the gift card payment came up and they offered a locked in rate for four years which was very unusual as well.

Scam started soon after November 7,2022 when I moved into Evergreen in Lewisville Seniors Apartments. First they started using my internet connection. Then they took over a lot of my accounts by using my phone number and email address. They attacked themselves to my bank account and after over 22years of using BOA bank they spoiled my relationship with bank no matter how many times I changed my account number. They were rerouting my calls and I thought I was talking to bank. It got so bad until I had to go inside bank so that I could be authenticated. They have collected to much private information from me about my credit cards account, PayPal account was ruined after 30+years. They applied for various loans in my name. I had to lock all 3 profiles my credit score is lower then ever. I complained to Spectrum headquarters. I had to buy over 4 phones that I couldn’t afford thankfully for family. They was able to get into IPhone 15 plus because someone at Spectrum kept giving or selling my information. They always get the model of my phone and the Im or serial numbers and change my settings and listen to every single conversation that I have and are still listening, tracking me removing pictures even some of my deceased Son that I cherish. Even when my Son home was sold through probate court they removed pictures that I was saving for his only son. My life is miserable daily and this is affecting me in a negative way. I can’t even go online and complete the business about my medicare because they are tracking me. They save files about my family members information and make fake calls to them and send fake emails. I don’t want this stress to affect my health in a negative way. Who knows if other senior tenants are being targeted and they don’t know. No one in the world deserves to go through what I’m dealing with. I reported to Apple headquarters, but every time I say where I live I hear things like you leave in old folks home and maybe you should get a government flip phone. What a negative insult. Senior citizens deserve to be treated respectfully and listen to.

They left a voicemail saying: "Dear customer this voicemail is to inform you that spectrum is removing the 40% discount offer on your monthly bill to reactivate this offer right now please call back on the number you see on your caller ID thank you."

I asked Google to give me the number for Spectrum. I called the number that was given and made my payment. I was going to use my checking account but they told me they needed to use my debit card. They ended up charging my debit card $110 that had nothing to do with my bill. I had to dispute the charges with my bank.

A man called my elderly father claiming he qualified for a discount for his wifi service through Spectrum but needed my father's Social security number to verify his age, unfortunately my father have his Social security number not aware he was speaking to a scammer!! After I spoke to my father and I told him they would never ask for his Social through spectrum he called the actual company and they did clarify they would never call and ask for Social security number. We are concerned this is going to lead to something else sadly. I can provide the number that the man gave my father if needed as I do not currently do not have it but my father does.

I received a call from someone claiming to be from Spectrum telling me my equipment was out of date. He knew contact info for my family members. I provided him with my updated address and date of birth. He asked me for the last 4 digits of my SSN so he can get me 40% off my bill and I ended the call. I called the number back and it was not a working number. I also called Spectrum and they said they would never call me and they would have already had all of my information.

- Largo, FL, USA • Feb 29, 2024

I received a text stating my internet service had a promotion that I was eligible for. They required pre paying for a year usimg a Target Gift Card. To convince me it was legitimate they paid my current bill so it shoed 0 due.

- Cleveland, OH, USA • Feb 23, 2024

Received a voice mail from the number i provided, saying they were Spectrum, and that i had a promo monthly discount on my account that expired today(which is actually true, so i thought it was legit). It said to call 866-549-4557, which i did do. When i called, they sounded like it really was Spectrum. They then asked me my address and how much i was paying a month.i gave them my address, but then asked why they needed the amount, since they should know. They said it was for verification. I gave them amount of $69.99. They then said they are running a promo and my new monthly amount would only be $35, with same package/services i have now, and guaranteed for 3 years! But then they said in order to be eligible, i would have to pay for the entire 1st year upfront...$420!!. It sounded like a scam, so i declined and hung up.

I received a call from someone claiming to be from Spectrum. They are telling people they can reduce their monthly cable bill by paying for the first 8 months up front by using a Target credit card or Target gift card at $380 each. If you pay within the first 100 minutes you get a $100 Target gift card but it has to be done within the first 24 hours or the promotional code would become null and void. They knew the last 4 digits of the card I use to pay my bill as well so they must have some type of access to Spectrum.

- Lorain, OH, USA

Tyler called me Spectrum give 50% discount over the next 8 months

- Cleveland, OH, USA

I got a call from someone claiming to be from Spectrum. They told me they are going to cut my bill down to $115 a month for the next 3 years and I'll get free movie channels if I pay for 5 months in advance right now. They told me to purchase $290 worth of Target gift cards and I asked if I could pay with my debit card and they told me it had to be in the form of Target gift cards.

- Erie, PA, USA

I attempted to call spectrum to pay my internet service and the person that answered the phone turned out to be a scammer. They took my debit card info and actually paid spectrum worth a fraudulent check that came back as no good. Later that same day while i had no idea what had happened the person tried using my debit card for $200. After checking my bank account i realized that the person used my money at a "Speakers Llc" and not spectrum.

Someone claiming to be from Spectrum called and had my name and address.
He wanted me to call him back when I receive my next Spectrum bill and he will give me a credit immediately.
He gave his name as Kevin Smith (even though he had an Indian accent) and a call-back number of 858-808-2080

I received a strange message on my land line. Caller message stated it is Spectrum. They wanted to lower my spectrum cable bill by fifty percent. Call them back at 855-915-1053. My husband called the number back. I got on the line. They could lower our cable bill from $273-$169.99. We did not agree. They told me to go to CVS and get a Target gift card for $340. That is when it sounded funny. That would cover the first two months of my cable bill. I knew this was a scam. I pay the bills. They gave me their billing and finance number to call when we bought the gift card. That is a different number. 855-998-1110. Press extension number one. We did not call the number. He gave me a promotion code to give that department ARSI3943R. I wanted to report the call.

- Hinckley, OH, USA

received phone message for half price service of spectrum internet for 3 years if 1 year paid up front using Target gift cards as payment. Did not follow through but a charge of $300 was posted to my credit card(now cancelled) which they already had as a cancellation fee from the discount offer program. The $300 did show up as a credit on my Spectrum account and is currently in limbo at Spectrum with no clear refund information from them while they investigate. The credit card company says I will have to pay the $300 processed to Spectrum as it was paid to Spectrum. Scammers appear to have a "spoofed account" allowing them to post charges as Spectrum.
