They called me pretending to be Spectrum. They asked me to spell my complete first and last name. They then asked me to confirm that the number I was calling from, is the exact match for my account with Spectrum. Then they asked that I confirm my address for account security. I confirmed all. They went on to explain that my current bill is $103.00 which it was and that there was a 40% promo going on that - for the next 3 years, my bill will be only $50.00. He said: "I see from your bill, that you're paying an average of $103.00 a month." I found this odd because while that was my CURRENT bill amount, it was only that way due to me having a recent move, and Spectrum charged a one-time fee of $30.00 for service transference, but Spectrum would know that THAT'S NOT MY AVERAGE. My bill, in the last three years, has NEVER been over $72.00. So right there, I knew something was wrong, but continued the conversation because I didn't understand how they knew my bill amount. He then tried to make it sound like he was so legitimate by saying: "Well, there is a catch for your offer - you must pay $600.00 upfront for this promo and then there will be no other charge except $50.00 a month" - THAT made the red flags wave more for me. At this point, I still thought it was Spectrum, so I started yelling and saying they knew I just moved and there was NO WAY I was paying that crap with all the moving expenses I just incurred. Then he said if I didn't do it - my bill would STAY at $103.00 each month............THIS IS DEFINITELY when I got pissed off and knew it was a scam because my bill has NEVER been $103. Only recently and, again, that was a one-time charge. I told him IT WAS ONLY $103 due to my move and they should know that. Then he interrupted me by saying: "Oh, yes it will" - like a child!! By now, I knew NO professional rep would talk like that and told him. He then hung up. What is interesting is that I've had Spectrum for about 3 years now. My bill NEVER went over $100. The VERY FIRST time it did was recently and ONLY due to transferring service for my new move - I got this scam call (6/10/24). I moved into my new place one week ago (5/31/24). I do believe there's a connection. So, it appears they target Spectrum customers with bill amounts OVER a certain amount. My bill was usually between $49.99 and $71.99. I"ve NEVER gotten a call before. If it's this low, they probably don't target the customer because taking 40% off that amount would be a COMPLETELY obvious scam. I am guessing they look for customers with bills over $100 and then try to tell them they will get HALF OFF. After I told them I would NEVER pay - that's when the attitude change. ANd so did mine! The number they called from was 872-261-6354. THey never got my financial information, but they tried. The scammer had an accent.

I asked Google to give me the number for Spectrum. I called the number that was given and made my payment. I was going to use my checking account but they told me they needed to use my debit card. They ended up charging my debit card $110 that had nothing to do with my bill. I had to dispute the charges with my bank.

A man called my elderly father claiming he qualified for a discount for his wifi service through Spectrum but needed my father's Social security number to verify his age, unfortunately my father have his Social security number not aware he was speaking to a scammer!! After I spoke to my father and I told him they would never ask for his Social through spectrum he called the actual company and they did clarify they would never call and ask for Social security number. We are concerned this is going to lead to something else sadly. I can provide the number that the man gave my father if needed as I do not currently do not have it but my father does.

I received a call from someone claiming to be from Spectrum telling me my equipment was out of date. He knew contact info for my family members. I provided him with my updated address and date of birth. He asked me for the last 4 digits of my SSN so he can get me 40% off my bill and I ended the call. I called the number back and it was not a working number. I also called Spectrum and they said they would never call me and they would have already had all of my information.

I received a text stating my internet service had a promotion that I was eligible for. They required pre paying for a year usimg a Target Gift Card. To convince me it was legitimate they paid my current bill so it shoed 0 due.

Received a voice mail from the number i provided, saying they were Spectrum, and that i had a promo monthly discount on my account that expired today(which is actually true, so i thought it was legit). It said to call 866-549-4557, which i did do. When i called, they sounded like it really was Spectrum. They then asked me my address and how much i was paying a month.i gave them my address, but then asked why they needed the amount, since they should know. They said it was for verification. I gave them amount of $69.99. They then said they are running a promo and my new monthly amount would only be $35, with same package/services i have now, and guaranteed for 3 years! But then they said in order to be eligible, i would have to pay for the entire 1st year upfront...$420!!. It sounded like a scam, so i declined and hung up.

I received a call from someone claiming to be from Spectrum. They are telling people they can reduce their monthly cable bill by paying for the first 8 months up front by using a Target credit card or Target gift card at $380 each. If you pay within the first 100 minutes you get a $100 Target gift card but it has to be done within the first 24 hours or the promotional code would become null and void. They knew the last 4 digits of the card I use to pay my bill as well so they must have some type of access to Spectrum.

Tyler called me Spectrum give 50% discount over the next 8 months

- Cleveland, OH, USA

I got a call from someone claiming to be from Spectrum. They told me they are going to cut my bill down to $115 a month for the next 3 years and I'll get free movie channels if I pay for 5 months in advance right now. They told me to purchase $290 worth of Target gift cards and I asked if I could pay with my debit card and they told me it had to be in the form of Target gift cards.

- College Place, WA, USA

The scammer called claiming to be Spectrum and they could save us 50% off our bill that they partnered with Target. To buy 3 gift cards and it goes against the bill. They credited $288 back to our account as a refund, I pulled up our bill and it showed on our account that it was there so thats why he thought it was legit so we bought the gift cards.

I later called Spectrum to find out it was a scam and they knew about it.

How did the scammer have my account information unless Spectrum was hacked which they claim didn't happen.

- White Salmon, WA, USA

Someone called (listed as Basye, VA) and left an message about 50% off bill. Don't fall for this. They are very convincing and will say that you will be charged a $350 cancellation fee if you stop the process of sending them $420 through a target card.

He ended up charging me $350, but it was just through Spectrum so it became a credit on my account. Nothing was taken from me, but the Target card would have been the payment to them. They spoof your number and using the Wallet on Spectrum they can make payments through the fake usage of your number.

Spectrum assured me they did not have access to my card, just the ability to make payments to Spectrum through the Wallet.

I contacted Spectrum at 8779683028 and they cancelled the charges and added additional security my account while also updating the teams about this specific attack.

- Erie, PA, USA

I attempted to call spectrum to pay my internet service and the person that answered the phone turned out to be a scammer. They took my debit card info and actually paid spectrum worth a fraudulent check that came back as no good. Later that same day while i had no idea what had happened the person tried using my debit card for $200. After checking my bank account i realized that the person used my money at a "Speakers Llc" and not spectrum.

Someone claiming to be from Spectrum called and had my name and address.
He wanted me to call him back when I receive my next Spectrum bill and he will give me a credit immediately.
He gave his name as Kevin Smith (even though he had an Indian accent) and a call-back number of 858-808-2080

- North Ridgeville, OH, USA

I received a strange message on my land line. Caller message stated it is Spectrum. They wanted to lower my spectrum cable bill by fifty percent. Call them back at 855-915-1053. My husband called the number back. I got on the line. They could lower our cable bill from $273-$169.99. We did not agree. They told me to go to CVS and get a Target gift card for $340. That is when it sounded funny. That would cover the first two months of my cable bill. I knew this was a scam. I pay the bills. They gave me their billing and finance number to call when we bought the gift card. That is a different number. 855-998-1110. Press extension number one. We did not call the number. He gave me a promotion code to give that department ARSI3943R. I wanted to report the call.

- Hinckley, OH, USA

received phone message for half price service of spectrum internet for 3 years if 1 year paid up front using Target gift cards as payment. Did not follow through but a charge of $300 was posted to my credit card(now cancelled) which they already had as a cancellation fee from the discount offer program. The $300 did show up as a credit on my Spectrum account and is currently in limbo at Spectrum with no clear refund information from them while they investigate. The credit card company says I will have to pay the $300 processed to Spectrum as it was paid to Spectrum. Scammers appear to have a "spoofed account" allowing them to post charges as Spectrum.

- Avon, OH, USA

Said I was eligible for 50% of my current bill. He told me to go and buy a Target gift card then call them back. I hung up. Unfortunately, I was busy and didn’t realize it was a scam until I gave them my account number. He was able to see how much I was paying per month. I called Spectrum to notify them and changed my security code.

I was contacted via cell phone from Michael Taylor on Aug 28 and he said I'm from Spectrum and do you want to reduce your cable bill? He had the last 4 digits of my credit card so I thought is was authentic. He stated I can take $30 a month off your monthly bill. I gave him my entire credit card number. I contacted Spectrum and they stated they had not received payment.

Woman identified herself as Mary Hill (employee No. 1010, phone 855-519-1920; tho she was calling from a local number), tho her accent was thick and she obviously wasn't "Mary Hill". The background was noisy, like a call center. She had my name, current address and phone no., as listed on my Spectrum bill, and seemed to know that I was subscribing only to their internet plan. I was offered two $20 monthly discounts (one was supposedly a senior discount). I provided my birthday (I was stupid not to give a fake one) and current Spectrum security code. When she said I needed to pay $7.99 up front to receive the monthly discounts, and asked for a credit card no., I knew it was a scam and hung up. I called Spectrum myself and immediately changed my security code and internet account password.

- Saint Louis, MO, USA

They called and offered me a discount on my Spectrum account. The lady would not give me her name but wanted me to give her my credit card information.  I want others to be aware of this and I feel she is specifically targeting seniors and offering false discounts for monthly services with Spectrum.
