Got a post card saying i had gift card vouchers pending saying i had 500 dollars in vouchers

- Lake Charles, LA, USA • Apr 11, 2024

Someone is impersonating the Calcasieu Parish Public Library and sending facebook messages to those who commented on one of the Library's Facebook posts. In the post, we are asking patrons to name their favorite resource that the library offers to win a gift bag. Unfortunately, that opened the door to a scammer who is now messaging those who posted saying that they won. When they click on the link, they input their personal information. Unfortunately, it also asks for credit card information saying that they need to "join."

While the Calcasieu Parish Public Library did indeed ask patrons for their favorite service of the library, we are NOT this service asking for information/credit card information. Any help to spread the word would be most helpful. Thank you!

The scammed continues to call me and tells me that I entered a sweepstakes contest on last year. Says I've won 2'5 million dollars plus a 2023 Mercedes Benz. Said that I need to go to Walmart and get a money pack card so that the winning can be put on the card then I had to take it to the bank to verify the cash was in the bank. The name that shows up on the caller ID is Winston price. He got angry with me when I asked why the personal questions. Somehow he had personal information.

I got a call saying I had won $9,000 from the Federal Reserve and all I had to do to claim it was go out and buy a $200 ebay gift card and call them back with the numbers on the back of the card. After I did that, they wanted a $400 card and that is when I became suspicious and called BBB.

Man claimed to be Howie Guja from

Publishers clearing house . He told my mom she won a large sum of money but she had to pay the tax on it . This has been going on since September. My mom has a little dementia and has been going to buy numerous gift cards and giving this man the information off the back . He has scammed her out of no telling how much money as to date .

Rick Sanchez called, said he had prize money to discuss. Did not give him any personal info. Told me to contact Chamber of Commerce. Did so, they never heard of him. Called 3-4 times - I didn't reply. Talked to him on 1/24 to get info for scam report. Told him C of C never heard of him and asked what the FTC had to do with this as he kept urging me to call them. He hung up immediately. I filed this report because other older people may be taken in and  give them info.

It was supposed to be a Walmart website where you paid $1 to enter a sweepstakes. It did not say it was a subscription and it did not say it was $120. I called and complained to get a refund and found that they took a second $120 from my account. They claim they will return the money but it could take up to seven days. I want to warn others so they don't fall into this trap.

Someone texted... I'm Dennis am-agent in charge of your winnings, Let me know if you're ready to claim your winnings.... Thanks. Kindly send me your full name to confirm on the winning list. ( That's exactly how I received this message. ) When l responded " is this a scam ? He texted back " no this is not a scam, your number number was in those numbers that winning package that is why I message you. ( Exactly how it was written). He went onto say that there were a lot of scams out there using there programs name but this program was 100% real and legitimate. He wanted to know how I wanted to claim my winnings...cash or check. All he need was information, name, address, age, email address and $200 activation fee. Once I sent it I would receive my winnings n 3 hours by FedEx. No I didn't send them any money. They used email address to communicate with me after the phone number.

Exactly the same as described by another report - a person named Shawn or Sean Mitchell left several voicemails and when I called back and spoke to him he said my name was drawn and I won one of three potential prizes. He said it wasn't a cold call, he wasn't selling anything, he is aware of the do not call list, so he wouldn't be calling if I didn't win the drawing. The prizes were either a Ford Explorer ($38,000 value or $25,000 in cash in place of a car), a 3-day stay at a Marriott, or a 70" Samsung TV. I had to make an appointment to go that evening to 4253 Piedmont Parkway in Greensboro to claim my prize (claim number TVM45-107 - which is the exact same number as the other ScamPulse.com report said - either this is a recycled scam or we both won the same contest!) While the address looks like it is in some business park, I could not find any information online about the company called Greensboro Vacations. He said there would be no cost to me, I would just have to listen to their vacation presentation and if I won the car I would have to keep an advertisement on the side for at least six months. Come to think of it he never addressed me by name. That, the sudden urgency, no record of the business online, etc, makes me think this is a giant scam, possibly even something dangerous. I don't want to show up in an empty business park in the dark on a Friday evening, who knows what could happen.

I just received the same call. Same name, same claim number, same place all of it. And your right about him not addressing our names he didn't address mine either until I returned his called. I looked up the company name and couldn't find anything about it. I look up the name he gave me with the company and that's when your post and 2 other post came up about this scam. Thank you so much for posting this and warning others.

Tryhackme.com runs a fraudulent contest, #AdventOfCyber, in which many of the prizes are not awarded to their winners. They claim to award over $50,000 each year but do not. I was defrauded of an $80 prize. They gave a bunch of excuses, offered an Amazon voucher alternative, gave excuses about why that didn't work, offered a cash alternative, and finally never gave that out either. Many others have been defrauded as well.

On December 4th at 10:30 am I was notified by phone that I (my name) at (my address) was a third place winner of the Senior Citizens Publisher's Clearing House in connection with the BBB, Federal Reserve, and Reader's Digest. He said they have held this drawing for seniors for the last 20 years. I was told I had won $1.5 million dollars, an F-150 truck, and $5,000 a month for 5 years for a total of $400,000.

My claims representative is Sydney Mohon, phone is 613-657-5702. He had me call him back at that number to be sure I had written it down correctly, which I then did.

I was told they would not be withholding taxes and that I would be mailed a T19 form for the IRS for taxes, but not for next year but for 2024 tax year.

He needed a photo ID but I could block out the information on it. I texted him a photo of my driver's license but info covered. I was told that I would have to open a bank account by Wednesday for this to be deposited into. He set up an appointment for Thursday December 7th at 11:30 to be at my door with the check and will unload my F-150 into my driveway.

I received a letter in my email (which he already had) from the ScamPulse.com stating that this is legit. It also had in the letter the same Check ID clearing # 129441426, which he had given to me on the phone.

He is now awaiting for me to assure him I have the bank account set up, so he can proceed with instructions.

He also said that local police will be with them for security and for my safety taking the check to the bank.

I phoned the ScamPulse.com to verify the letter and was told that this is highly likely a scam and that at some point I will be asked for money or bank info in order to get it.

He asked if I wanted Thursday to be televised and I said no, private. He informed me that would include me to then keep it private and confidential as part of the qualifications.

He said he will be in touch later today.

If I get more information about this activity I will let you know, such as a request for money or bank information.
