Type of a scam Vanity Award Scam
I was working for one of these companies. Once we found out about the scam we contacted Top Rated Online telling them they need to stop immediately or we would be forced to take legal action. Hasan Siddiqui (either the owner or employee of this company) reached out to us multiple times to try and strike a deal. We told him no every time.
Do NOT fall for these false claims or lame products!
Below is an example of an email we received from a user. I've taken out private information of our user's for their privacy.
1) From a business based in Washington (State) - this is an email thread, we removed our responses as the important information we want to shed light to is what Top Rated Online is saying to victims:
"Received a phone call today from Top Rated Online saying that due to the size of the Franchise Dealership category and closeness of voting that you are having a Top 10 winners. Is that accurate?
That is exactly what happened then. They called, claimed to be from [MEDIA PARTNER], informed us that they are expanding the list from 5-10 and said they would be shipping out a showroom stand in the next 2 weeks. Said it would be $279 for it and they would not charge for it until we see it, verify it and approve it. Guy gave me his name, number, extension, etc. Receipt said:

[His name is] Carl
1-800-786-6514 extension 402
Said he was representing [MEDIA PARTNER] and that due to the amount of dealerships (over 200) and closeness of voting that they opted to have a Top 10 this year. Told me all about the 11 x 13 showroom display, read me some comments people said about us in their reviews, etc. Told me I should expect a receipt in a few hours (below) and a digital version of what the display looks like in about a week and the actual display in about 3 weeks via Fed Ex.

It sounded very official. Guy was very polite and professional. Could hear others in the background, like a call center, having similar conversations. I went to the website while I was on the phone with him to make sure it wasn’t a scam and saw a [MEDIA PARTNER] display example. Didn’t have [MEDIA PARTNER] logo or anything, but assumed it was just an example. Shows what I know."
2) From a local business based in Ohio:
"Hello. I just wanted to confirm that you have a business called "Top Rated" creating your winners awards. I received a phone call asking me to purchase a plaque, and that for the top 20 in the portrait photography category, this is being offered. Apparently because there were so many nominees for this category, you're opening up the winning awards to the top 20? I just wanted to confirm the legitimacy of the call since they want you to pay over the phone. I couldn't find any reviews on this company online. I sort of have an order on hold so if you could possibly answer this for me today I would so appreciate it."
3) From a local business based out of Washington (State):
"I wanted to let you know that a company called TopRatedOnline.com is claiming to be affiliated with [OUR COMPANY] and [MEDIA PARTNER] over the phone, they are offering really fancy plaques and charging $197.50 for it. Well, I fell for the scam and today I received the "plaque". It has nothing on it that they claimed and it says on the bottom of the plaque they are unaffiliated with [OUR COMPANY] in extremely small print. I have already contacted my bank regarding this. I just wanted you all to know some additional information on this scam. If you would like to contact me about this feel free!"
4) From a local business in Ohio:
"Yes I did receive a phone call from a company claiming to be you telling me I won something. ( I never entered anything, I’m a new company)
They wanted to sell me a plaque and I immediately thought SCAM SCAM SCAM and told them to take a hike
I’m happy you guys told me"
5) From a local business in Wisconsin:
"Hello there!
My name is Brian from [BUSINESS NAME], and I wanted to inform you of a scam phone call that I just received. It was from a rep named Carl that stated we won [OUR COMPANY], and he would be sending us a Plaque. He gave us options for the plaque: 1 for $179 and 1 for $259. Well, we came in 8th place, so it didn't really make sense to me. In any event, I took down his number to 'think about it,' even though I knew it was most likely a scam. His number he gave me was 1-888-358-6248 - I called it, and someone did answer named Shawn. I hung up in hoping you would investigate, or trace the call before they disconnect.
Let me know if you need anything from me!"
6) From a local business in Ohio:
"I received a call from an un-named man "regarding the [OUR COMPANY] awards for the 2016 training category stating I was Best of and (they are) getting a plaque out for me to put up on the wall and they want me to call back to go over the wording and figure out what size fits best!" Call back number that was left is 888-358-6248. I know that I am NOT the winner and not in the top 5. I am reporting this to you in case there is someone using the [OUR COMPANY] to receive information on those contestants that are entered into your contest. Also if this is related to your business you might want to make sure they are better informed and use formal etiquette when talking business. To put it politely, he sounded as if he had just had lunch. The ACTUAL number that was logged into my call log on phone is 734-369-6692. Of course that doesn't match the 888 number. I thought you might be interested in case they are using your business as a scam."
Also, I found a job posting on LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/administrative-assistant-at-tro-1703137566/)...⇄ they are using another company’s name and logo! They are looking for an “Administrative Assistant” and claiming to be called TRO, which is a Marketing & Advertising in London, England.

I’ve attached a screenshot of the LinkedIn post to show you how ridiculous Top Rated Online is and how much they do not care about scamming people (even their own employees it turns out).
