Type of a scam Debt Collections
Sharon told me that she could check and asked me to provide a code that was sent to my phone. I gave her the code and a second one that was sent. She then asked me to verify my birthday. After hesitating slightly, I provided the full date when she stated my birth month. Sharon told me she checked my account and said I had no debt, advising me to log into studentaid.gov to verify the information.
She gave me a password to log in, which I found unusual because I already had my credentials saved. When I later attempted to log in using her credentials, I couldn't access my account. I contacted studentaid.gov directly and was informed that my account had likely been compromised. I was able to regain access after changing my password and email.
At one point during the conversation, I specifically asked Sharon what company she was calling from, and she then stated it was United Debt Relief. This is how I knew that they were impersonating that company.
I later called the actual United Debt Relief, and they confirmed that the phone number Sharon used was not associated with their company, confirming it was a scam. I am now concerned about my personal information's safety and believe it is crucial that these scammers are reported. The situation has been stressful and concerning.
