Fake Job Offer_

After applying for several jobs I received a email to apply for a remote video editing position using a questionnaire. I was hesitant as I didn't recall applying for the job but I went ahead and did it anyway. Within 24 hours, I was told I was hired and that I would be receiving an offer letter. The pay sounded real good. Signed the offer letter and was told that I would receive equipment to start the position.

After all of this I was told by the HR email that Darryl from finance would be reaching out to me to send a check for equipment. (FIRST RED FLAG) I'm like ok...so I get a text from Darryl (no phone call_I haven't spoken to no one over the phone let alone zoom nothin just you're HIRED) and he says I'm going to send you check from our finance team to purchase equipment and who do you bank with.

I'm like it's 2024 who sends a check, it probably would have made more sense to just send me a computer than send me a check and why does who I bank with matter. So I tell him my bank and he says do you have any other bank lol. Ok...no I don't.

So this just sounds crazy at this point so I look up the website. Seems legit and they got a list of people that supposedly work for them so I reached out to one of them and come to find out she actually works for upshotcreatives BUT they do not send a check to purchase equipment and she has never heard of Darryl or said email addresses.

So I'm pissed at this point and then he responds back that he emailed me a check. To print out the check and cut it to check size and deposit it using my MOBILE BANKING app. Sir don't you know that's a criminal offense and I will be the one in trouble for even attempting something like that on top of that to further insult my intelligence. He sends a jpg check clearly fake with a realistic backing that I guess I need to glue together. And he sends to separate jpgs $1000 each.

I'm no rocket scientist but the Mac they are speaking of isn't even $2,000 so doesn't make sense. Don't entertain these people. I didn't ask to be bothered or scammed. Really rude of you but you got the right one.

I got hit by the same, thanks for posting! Except now Darryl (with same number) works for a different company, GovCIO and the check is for 4,987.50 and is against CitiBank, everything else is exactly the same. The print this check, cut it out and deposit is a real gem.

I was dumb enough to send them my ID and signed acceptance letter because I checked if the company was legit, which it is, but not that the people were.

"Darryl" is also using the name of Oneida Innovations Group to conduct a very similar scam. Almost all the details are the same, just with a different company name. He contacted me via his 8458142778 number and when I called him directly, he got angry with me for not depositing the check and hung up. I highly suggest notifying authorities if you've sent him any identification information. I also went ahead and forwarded all of "Darryl"s information to the FTC and my local police, just in case.
Sorry this happened to you. I hope scammers get what they deserve.
