The letter looks like a time sensitive and urgent matter and need to call and provide VIN number of my car. It made it so urgent that if I do not call in time I will loose coverage.

The main purpose of this letter is selling coverage of automotive insurance, but it sounded like the receiver violated some rules if I do not respond ASAP.

Factory warranty expiring and to call with recently purchased used car information

- Dripping Springs, TX, USA • Feb 08, 2024

Received a letter referencing a vehicle I own stating to following:

RESPONSE TO THIS NOTICE REQUESTED

Please call 1-800-851-0673 with VIN and current mileage before 02/19/2024. Our records indicate that you have not contacted us regarding the vehicle service contract on your vehicle. You are receiving this notice because your factory warranty has expired or may be about to expire. By neglecting to activate your coverage you will be at risk of being financially liable for any and all repairs after your factory warranty expires. However, you still may have time left to activate coverage on your vehicle before it's too late...

...

Sincerely,

Richard Thomas

Program Coordinator

Government allows these warranty scammers to scrape info about car and personal ID.

Got a note in the mail with my name, car model, vin, looks like serious business.

"Final Notice" (scary) "our records indicate you have not contacted us" (why would i) "you are receiving this notice because your warranty has or is about to expire" (car is 3 month old) "by neglecting to activate your coverage" (action needed) "we reserve the right to revoke your eligibility" (revoke what?) "call within 5 days" (urgency!)

- Houston, TX, USA • Feb 03, 2024

A FINAL NOTICE letter requesting VIN and Mileage or my vehicle warranty as they have the right to revoke my vehicle warranty. I have a brand new 2024 vehicle under 1000 miles so I knew this was probably a scam and not a required registration for legitimate factory warranty.

No return address or business name on envelope or letter. The only company identifier was in body of letter which was: VEHICLE SERVICES DIVISION on top and RICHARD THOMAS PROGRAM COORDINATOR with signature and 800 number at bottom of letter.

- Waco, TX, USA • Jan 22, 2024

Received a letter final notice). Gives no address, signed Richard Thomas, program coordinator, our customer ID YZA9613899, call their phone number before 1/31/2024 and give ViN and current mileage, they know we bought a 2021 Toyota. “Your factory warranty has expired or may be about to expire.” “You still may have time left to activate coverage on your vehicle before it’s too late. Final acceptance is subject to your ability to meet eligibility requirements.” Mon-Fri 7am- 8:00 pm cst and Saturday 10-4pm cst. I did not call

Letter titled Final Notice, indicated that my factory warranty has or may expire.

This is my first and last notice to get coverage within the next 5 days. No return address, company name, or email address. Just a name, title, and 1-800 number.

Out of curiosity I called and was greeted by someone named Omar who said “thank you for calling Phoenix Protect”

I pretended like he had just called me and acted confused to see what he would tell me. He then asked if I had received a letter in the mail, I said “I don’t know about a letter, you called me” which was obviously untrue and then he just hung up.

- Houston, TX, USA • Jan 15, 2024

postal mail from zip 92799 Vehicle Service Division with no company name claiming Final Notice to renew my factory warranty on a 2024 Ford I purchased a month ago. Obviously this is a scam because this is a brand new vehicle so I called just to see what information they would provide me. They only said they are a third party reseller for Ford and an estimate of what the warranty would cost to renew. After I started asking more questions we got "disconnected".

- San Antonio, TX, USA • Jan 11, 2024

Letter sent about vehicles factory warranty expired, contact Richard Thomas at 800-851-0673 with VIN and current mileage and to call within 5 days. No PII in letter.

- San Antonio, TX, USA • Jan 08, 2024

It doesn’t have a mailing address to return and doesn’t have a company name just the title “Program Coordinator.” It claimed my factory warranty id about to expire.

- Mount Juliet, TN, USA • Jan 03, 2024

Offered to cover any damage to vehicle which will be covered in full in a booklet sent to owner after insurance/car warranty is activated. Says all Honda dealerships will accept the warranty with a $100 deductible from the vehicle owner. Stated payments would be over 24 months and the warranty would last 5 years

- Cedar Park, TX, USA • Dec 29, 2023

Sent a "final notice" about my potentially expired or expiring factory warranty (for my new 2024 model year vehicle when the calendar year is still 2023) and used scare tactics that their "records indicate that you have not contacted us regarding the vehicle service contract on your vehicle" and that I "will be at risk of being financially liable for any and all repairs."

They provide no indication of where their company (listed only as Vehicle Services Division) is located and only list a name, title, and phone number: Richard Thomas Program Coordinator, 1-800-851-0673.

- Asheboro, NC, USA • Dec 23, 2023

I received a letter in the mail from "Vehicle Services Division" marked "Private and Confidential" and "Final Notice" from "Richard Thomas, Program Coordinator" claiming that my "factory warranty has expired or may be about to expire" and instructing me to call a 1-800 number by 01/02/2024 to activate my "Vehicle Service Contract" lest I find myself "financially liable for any and all repairs." Sounds serious! But, obviously just a scam because no real business is listed and I've never done business of this sort with anyone.

What's concerning is that whoever sent this has my name, (NEW) address, and (NEW (used)) vehicle year, make, and model. Where did they get all that??

The letter looks all the more realistic on account of a barcode in the upper left, customer ID in the upper right, and individual letter number in the lower right. Sadly, many people may fall for this one.

- Houston, TX, USA • Dec 22, 2023

Since they sold it and I’m the new title holder, they’re offering me the extended warranty for 5 years, with a $157/mo payment for 2 years with only a $100 deductible for any issues with the engine or transmission, a/c, heating, seals, electrical, basically fixing the whole car for $100 at any Nissan dealership in the country. But this is where it got fuzzy cuz they said it’s transferable to any new vehicle I get within those 5 years.

MAILED A FLYER AND STATED WARRANTY WAS NOT ACTIVATED.

- Driftwood, TX, USA • Nov 10, 2023

Phishing letter, designed to look like Toyota company. “Factory Warranty and Service Contract” about to expire.

- Houston, TX, USA • Nov 09, 2023

Received a letter about a car we recently purchased asking us to call the number with the VIN and current mileage before a certain date (about a week out.) It stated this was the final notice.

It states. "You are receiving this notice because your factory warranty has expired or may be about to expire. By neglecting to activate your coverage you will be at risk of being financially liable for any and all repairs after your factory warranty expires. However, you still may have time left to activate coverage on your vehicle before it's too late. Final acceptance is subject to your ability to meet eligibility requirements. this may be our only attempt to contact you about activating your Vehicle Service Contract. we reserve the right to revoke your eligibility for service coverage if you do not meet our criteria. Call within 5 days to ensure eligibility. Sincerely, Richard Thomas, Program Coordinator (800) 851-0673"
