I dialed a number identified as Dish to report an issue with my satellite. The person I got wanted to know the problem, checked with a technician, told me Dish was no longer able to provide signal to my area, and that I needed new equipment to receive signal. He had a very heavy accent and talked very fast. It was difficult to understand him and I had to keep asking him to repeat himself. He repeatedly tried to get me to add alarm systems to my service. He told me I would receive a $200 Visa card for my inconvenience. He wanted my phone number, email, address, and social security number. I told him he had all that. He said I would have to start new service with new equipment and that everything would stay the same for another 2 years. I told him I did not want to give out my social security number. He said he needed my social security number to get my visa card and to do a soft credit check. I foolishly gave it to him. All this time, he represented himself as dish. Then after I gave him my card number for 19.99 installation fee and he made an appointment for installation, he used the words direct tv when reading an agreement. I told him I had Dish service. I did not want Direct TV and had I not called Dish. He said that I had called Dish But that Dish was partnering with Direct TV to provide signal to my area. Again, speaking so fast, he was barely understandable. After the call, I called Dish using a number on their website. I told him what had just happened. He said it was a lie, to call Direct tv and tell them I had been misled and lied to and do not want the service. He also was able to take care of my satellite problem over the phone. I called Direct TV. This person told me this had been happening 3 to 4 times a day for about a week. He cancelled the installation and said if I had been charged the 19.99, they would refund it to me, that they had never partnered with Dish nor would they ever. I gave him the person's name and number. He said they were tracking it. I also called the bank and cancelled the card I had given my number from. I was foolish to give my information. I was not as aware and cautious as I thought I would be. Now I have to keep checking to make certain they are not doing anything with the other personal information I shared with them.

Was told that my Direct TV bill would be reduced if $75.00 was paid on 5/5/23 which was paid. Received a bill for $118.04 on 5/11/23. I phoned them today 5/12/23 and my call was hung up.

Scammer identifies themselves as ATT Direct TV and calls with a promotion - 50% off your bill. You call back to get the promotion. You give them your ATT account number and they know exactly when you paid your bill last and what the amount was. They say they will cut your bill in half but you need to pre-pay 6 months ($400.00- but only at Walgreens Rite, Aid or Speedway, not Giant Eagle) with Ebay gift cards. You call back their billing department (another person) with the gift card numbers. Then they transfer you to someone else & they set up an appointment to send a tech to upgrade your direct TV boxes for an additional $1000.00 in Target or Ebay gift cards. If you don't your boxes will go black. They said they will send a reimbursement check tomorrow and give your the FED tracking number. After research, this scam has been going on since the fall of 2021. Obviously they have all of our ATT account information so not sure why ATT hasn't shut down their number - I lost $1800.00 with this scam and the friendly scammers continue their scheme with victims - ongoing. Try it - 855-239-0573, dial 5 for the promotion. ATT/direct TV just lets this continue - doesn't warn it's customers that this scam has been going on for months. One would think a communications company could shut down phone numbers that harm their own customers.

Received a call from supposed AT&T/DirecTV rep about saving 1/2 on our monthly bill, $70 and receive movie channel of Showtime for 2 years. In order to do this we needed to pay 8 months in advance using an Ebay credit card or gift card that would pay the $70 for 8 months. We told them this was a scam. They told us to check our account for the $70 credit which we did and it was there. They also had us go to our DirecTV and check the channels out to make sure they were there. Sure enough they were. We thought well if they have access to our billing account and TV maybe AT&T/DirecTV they are trying to endorse EBay. We received an email verification of the $70 credit and also a text message with confirmation codes. We went to Walgreens and purchased 2 $200 EBay cards because Walgreens policy allows $500 in 24-hours and went to Albertsons and purchased 1 $160 card. We came back home and called the phone # provided 866-858-9074 to give the numbers on the card. Forty-five minutes later we were called back and they told us that we needed to have the cards purchased from one store. This was only AFTER I had provided the card numbers in the prior call. To help with our troubles we could send another $560 from one store only and they would send us a refund check for the original $560 along with $40 totaling $600. We realized this was a total scam and told them this and they tried to talk us out of such nonsense, their words. The rep also asked who our cellular services were with and we told them and they said they offered the same discount. Again we told them this was a scam and hung up on them and blocked their number.

We have kept all numbers, text and email for records if needed.

We also contacted AT&T/DirecTV about the breach in account information. They were very concerned and were going to get this to their tech team. We will also be asking for any sort of compensation from them due to the hacking involved of our account.

Several calls and voicemails indicating to call back to receive fifty percent off my direct tv package. I contacted att and they said it was a scam. I never called them back

I was contacted by a person claiming to be from DirectTV. He had a very thick accent and was difficult to understand. He told us that we were eligible to upgrade to our TV boxes and asked us to turn on the TV, so that he could get the information from the DirectTV box. He knew our address and said that he would give us a deal for being a loyal customer. For a onetime payment of $500 we would have service for 2 years with no bill. He then transferred us to a "Senior Supervisor" who asked me to go get a prepaid gift card to pay for services. When i questioned him about it he got belligerent and said he was going to shut off our service immediately. At that point, I hung up and called DirectTV to report the scam.

On 11/17/20 we were contacted by a person claiming to be from DirectTV. He had a very thick accent and was difficult to understand. He told us that we were going to get an upgrade to our TV boxes and asked us to turn on the TV, so that he could get the information from the DirectTV box. He knew our address and said that he would give the information to a tech for the upgrade, so that our service wouldn't go out when bad weather affects the dish. He then transferred us to a "Senior Supervisor" who asked what the charge on our latest monthly bill was. When I said I wouldn't provide it, as he should already know what it is. He said we would be charged a $249 fee, but would get it back on subsequent billing cycles. When I refused to provide the information, he got belligerent and said he was going to shut off our service immediately. At that point, I hung up and called DirectTV to report the scam. The so-called Supervisor gave me his ID of D1434 and his number 917-908-9950.

If I pay 199.99 they can connect me to the new Satellite dish. Then in 6 months they will return me the money. Told me this is not a scam, we need you to pay us on a credit card in the amount of 199.99, told them I was not gonna do it and I knew this was a scam, start cursing me out and called me an old b*t**, asked to speak to the supervisor, told me the supervisor was between his legs. They sound like they had an accent and was talking very professional up until I told them I was not giving them any money

Scammers offer a program to reduce Directv fees,50% for 3 yrs with all premium services. You’re asked to pay up front by loading E-bay cards and sharing the codes with them.

August 15, 2020 received a text indicating it was from AT&T regarding an unsuccessful payment. The text included a phone number to call.

- Arlington, TN, USA

I received a text message saying my auto payment did not go through. This is a number affiliated with my area code. Obviously, not AT&T, but someone gullible may fall prey to this scam.

- Oklahoma City, OK, USA

I received a text message that said "FRM AT&T Subject: Unsuccessful payment" It gives a number to call to pay and resolve this. I called my local AT&T first to verify this, and they said that it was a scam and they've been receiving several calls the past few days over this.

- Trenton, TN, USA

I received a call out of the blue from someone who claimed to be Direct TV. They said because i was a loyal customer they had a special offer, i would be upgraded to the highest level for an entire year, with all the premium channels, for only $350 up front and then my bill would be only $35 a month after the year was up. He even put those channels on my smart tv for proof. I'm not sure how but i gave him access and he put them on the TV and they worked temporarily. He then told me because it was a special offer i needed to deal only with him. He told me to go get a gift card for $350 and call him with the number on the back. He gave me a number to call. This deal sounded really good since my cable bill is over $150 a month, this was very appealing. I went and got the gift card and called the number he gave me but it did not go through. I waited and tried again but it did not work so i called Direct TV customer service and they told me this was a scam. The man keeps calling me and wanting the card number but i have hung up on him and told him that it was a scam. I reported this to the BBB.

Message stated from AT&T.

“Payment Blocked” call 1-888-312-6806. Sounded like an automated voice. Requested verification of personal information and my credit card # to verify my account. Realized too late after my info was given that I needed to inform my local AT&T to verify if message came from their company. According to My local branch this was a prank not generated by them.

They called about 2:00 today claiming to be Direct TV saying they were upgrading the satellite system in our area. It would take 5 or 6 minutes. For being a long time loyal customer Direct TV was crediting our bill $30.00 per month as a courtesy beginning in September 2020 and continuing as long as we remained with Direct TV. The cost of this upgrade was over $700. but loyal customers were required to pay only $199.00. The $199.00 would also be refunded in September. I told him I would call Direct TV to verify first. He told me that since my box had already been upgraded, I would lose service within 40-50 minutes. I told him if that happened I would change providers so that was not a problem. He gave me the following information which is surely a lie:

Mike Albert, Ext/ Employee number. CB125. His direct line 9703291866
