- Atlanta, GA, USA

Received a call 02/07/2017 at 9:19AM. Call fit the profile of this scam reported in the newspaper. http://www.ajc.com/news/local/marietta-police-bbb-warn-scam-that-starts-with-one... />
I hung up after I answered "No." I would like the BBB to investigate this number. I hope I do not have any problems. Not sure if he attempted to take money, but I am answering "Yes" below. I filed a report with Do Not Call Registry.

Answered the phone since the number displayed was a local number. The male on the other end said "Hi, this is ?, can you hear me OK?" I instinctively said "Yes" but then immediately hung up as I remembered the report of this scam on the news the other day. I then called my cell phone provider, AT&T to report the scam so they could make a note on my account. Please advise if there is anything else I need to do to protect myself from this scam.

Call came into my cell phone from the number 4782205480 at 11:20 am on 2/8/17. The gentleman on the other end said he was calling about my social security disability claim and then ask if I could hear him ok. As soon as I responded yeah but I'm not old enough for SS he hung up. I've heard about the scam and should know better than to have said yeah but I was in the doctors office and had other doctors appt being scheduled and thought maybe it was one of those doctors offices. I felt so stupid and scared after. I knew better. I have checked my accounts and set up alerts on them as of now. Hopefully these fools will be stopped. I will never answer another call if the number is not stored in my phone!! I hope I have correctly filled this out..

I answered the phone and a really bubbley voice said her name was EMILY and she was having issues with her headset and asked if I could hear her ok. I answered yes and then she started to go into this story about a vacation I recently took. At that point I hung up.

Tonight I read an article that this is a scam and I should report the number.

I received a phone call from an automated message that tried to sound very human that said, "Hi, this is so-and-so with the customer service department. Can you hear me alright?" I quickly ended the call without replying.

The call first asked "This is Dave from the Customer Service Dept can you hear me?" I didn't respond yes but then it said "Okay great" and I remembered the notices about the scam on recording the "YES" to use later for a scam. I wanted to be sure that the phone number was reported to someone so that they might be caught in the scam.

Recorded call came from 404-698-4812

They call my phone constantly and ask me several questions that are yes/no. on one occasion just by impulse I said yes. Questions are like " You have qualified for government grants of $9000 are you interest on getting this grant?" or they say something about the call being recorded and then ask " Can you hear me ok?"

I don't know what they do with my yes no responses but once I realize its fishy then I hang up.

I have received numerous calls from various 614 area codes that appear to fall under the "Can you hear me?" scam to get my consent. They never leave a message. When I have accidentally answered, the first statement/question is "Hi, this is [Abby], can you hear me?" I quickly say No and/or hang-up. I continue to block numbers but it's a bit ridiculous the number of calls I have received recently. Numbers include:

1-614-347-3683

1-614-379-6024

1-614-379-6025

Caller called and asked me if I was Daniel Jefferson and when I said yes, they immediately hung up. It was not until I say the report on the news later that I realized that I may have been victim to a scam.

Female asked if I can hear her. Trying to get a yes answer for potential scam. Said I stayed at their resort in the past and I have won a 3 night stay in Orlando. Would not stop talking when I said I wasn't interested. I hung up.

- Champaign, IL, USA

The person called and said they were Josh from customer service and asked whether I could hear him okay, which seemed like it was the "yes" scam where they record your voice and use it to sign you up for things.

- Medway, OH, USA

On February 6, 2017, I received a phone call on my cell phone. The number I received the call from is 614-305-7791. The caller said, "Can you hear me?" I said yes. Then, when I realized what I had done, the line just disconnected. I suddenly realized that this was a scam. There are scammers doing this After the person says, "yes" to their question, they begin getting things, demanding payment. I am told that this scam happens because, like me, the answer yes is on their file. All the information I have to offer is the 614 number I listed. Please note this 614 number in you systems as a scam number and let me know if you find out any further information on this particular scam. Thank you

The caller says "Hi, I am Allison from the warranty department. Can you hear me?"

- Roswell, GA, USA

The "caller", a woman, calls to offer a free vacation since you recently stayed at their resort. She starts by saying "hello? I'm having trouble with my headset..." but when you try to ask who she is with, you can clearly see that it is a recording.

I do not know if they would have attempted to take money from me because I hang up pretty early on in the call. I have received this same call at least three times since November.

- Smyrna, GA, USA

Stone Mountain, GA # called. I answered b/c I wanted to tell them to remove my # b/c they call so often. Man's voice said, "Hi this is Josh (or Todd?) from the customer service department, can you hear me OK?".

- Cleveland, GA, USA

I answered the phone and was asked if I could hear them ok and I responded yes. They then started a spiel about a vacation opportunity to which I said no thank you and hung up. Later I remembered hearing about a scam and looked up the details which provided this link to file a report.
