IRS Scam Reports & Reviews (239)

- Ironton, OH, USA

It started about a week ago, 9-29-16 around 7pm I got a phone call from one of the numbers (916-836-6961) they told me it was the IRS and I needed to give them a call back immediately. Then they stated that when I called back that they were the IRS and this was in regards to a lawsuit they were filing for tax fraud and tax evasion, and that I owed the IRS $20,000 worth of back taxes. Then I proceeded to ask the lady that I was on the phone with, and then I asked her for my personal information: your address, last four of social, date of birth, where I filed taxes last and she told me she could not disclose any of that information to me. Then I asked her if she would send me some information by the address listed that she could not disclose of what was going on and why I was being charged with tax evasion and tax fraud. And she told me that she would, and that it would be here in 3-5 days, I still have not received anything. Well, I called the same phone number back two days later, and the phone number was disconnected. The next number that called me (914-266-2444) , I couldn't return it until a few hours later, and their voicemail was the same as the one before, then when I called that number back, the guy kept telling me that he missed me and couldn't wait to see me. Then the third number (347-352-6015) was the same, it was disconnected when I tried to call it back.

They called me today 347 539 8514 saying that they work for IRS and that there is an arrest warrant for my arrest .when I told them I will report them they hanged up.

Received a message claiming that if I did not return the call the sheriff would be coming to pick me up. I called and spoke with Mr. Kevin Peterson who said I had not filed my taxes in 2010. I hung up the phone and wanted to report this to BBB.

I received a v/m from a Kevin Mason claiming an enforcement action from the US Government and will result with a Grand Jury to resolve issues. I did not call back, I knew it was a scam and report to BBB.

Irs called, going to send deputy to my house and take me in unless I pay them for back taxes that I don't owe.

An India person calls and reports that they will be putting in a warrant out for my arrest within 30 minutes to 1 hour. The person says that Filled falsified taxes. Then tell me that I owe over 9,000 and can be prosecuted for up to five years in prison. She asked me how much I had in my bank account, I told her $250. She didn't tells me "I see you have good credit you could go get a personal loan, I guess. She say you can brought money from your friends and family. Then after a bit more probing told me that she would not file any charges or take actions against me. I guest I was too broke for her and she feel bad for me. Now I keep on getting these scam calls and recording.

I received a message on my answering machine sometime between 9a.m.-12:30pm and the message said something like this was a very serious call to call right away to avoid litigation. They gave me the phone number to call 6468937786.

- Lawrenceburg, IN, USA

I received a voicemail on my phone (before 11a.m. on 8-10-16) so then I called it back (when I called the first time it was busy 1:30pm and then I tried again right away it was busy and then I waited 10 minutes and got right through), because they said it was very important. So, I asked them what, when they answered it, they said "The Treasury Department of the United States." Then he said his name real fast, so I couldn't understand and it was a foreign accent. Then I asked him, why are you calling, and he said they sent out several notices and then I said well, I haven't received one, then he said, oh, you'r accountant has probably received them, and he asked he never let you know about it and I said no. Then I said, well whose my accountant's name, and he said I'll let you talk to my supervisor (I think he said Mark), and the supervisor came on and he asked did he explain everything to you, and I said yes, he said that I owed $6,992 something like that (close to $7,000) and then I told him I have not received anything, and I want to know my accountant's name and then that man started raising his voice yelling and I said I am going to call my accountant, and he said if you hang up, I will have a warrant for your arrest.

Yesterday 8:30-12pm (probably about 10a.m.) I received a phone call from 626-265-5534 caller ID said it was a cell phone. The message said you are being sued by the IRS for further information call this number. Then I received a call yesterday afternoon about 3pm from 646-517-7393 and they pretty much said the same thing. And then I received a call from wireless 213-709-8912 today between 9am-11:30a.m. and this time the message said it was their final call.

I was called by someone claiming they were with the IRS. He claimed that i committed tax fraud and that i would be arrested, that he was going to send a sheriff to get me, that all my possessions would be taken and i would be arrested.

I received a call first a year and a half ago and I called the BBB about it. Now, they are calling me again about 12pm today 8-10-16 (this phone number is totally new) 347-560-5182. The first time they called they were calling my mothers home. The guy said we have been trying to get a hold of you, this is the IRS, we need to get a hold of you about a law suit we are filing against you. I called them back, couldn't hardly understand, it sounded asian, and I told them you called and said I owe you money and I am not paying you a dime, I have not paid taxed since 2010.

At 12:28pm today, a threatening message was left on my answering machine from "US Treasury Dept" that this was a second attempt to contact me and if I did not respond it would be a criminal offense and I'd have to appear before a grand jury for this "federal criminal offense" and I must call 646-357-1726 to speak to a federal agent to settle this matter. Which was the number on my caller ID as well. I usually don't answer if I don't recognize the number but I was expecting an out of area phone call this morning and that's why I answered the call. I hope you can catch and prosecute these people for scams such as this. I have the recorded message on my answering machine if you need to hear it.

The phone rang a little after 11a.m. (8-4-16), there was a recording on there and it said we are trying to get a hold of you (it was a woman's voice), she might have said this is the IRS and we are trying to get a hold of you concerning your past records. I didn't answer it so I called him back, and it was the same guy (he had called me before and I reported it to BBB about a month ago) and he was a foreign guy. I said who are you trying to get a hold of, first he said Jancey, and I said there is nobody here by that name, and then he said Janice. And I said that's me, and he said well, this is the IRS calling, and I said I remember your voice from the last time you called. And then he said, is your address (and he read off my address) and telephone number. Then he said I need the last four digits of your social security number to confirm that we are talking to you. I said I don't give out my social security number to anyone over the phone, and then I hung up. I asked him for his name, he wouldn't give it to me, he had such a strong accent that I could hardly understand him.
