McAfee IMPOSTER Reports & Reviews (154)

- Kamuela, HI, USA

Received this attached email. Did not make any contact.

- Portland, OR, USA

Mcafee services, year subscription to access “systems security features”.

Received an email saying my subscription to McAfee for 349.99 was renewed. I needed to call this number of information was incorrect.

** NOTED - the 'upload file' function on this platform does not work properly ... I have two documents I wanted to include but am not able.

EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION

Contacted by email from "McAfee" regarding a pending automatic subscription charge update with instructions to call [877 730 3536] to 'cancel' my subscription to avoid a charge against my credit card.

I called the number to cancel the transaction and then followed a series of steps guided by a 'customer service representative' to process my refund. This included - as I discovered - rendering control of my computer so that all McAfee files could be removed from my system. This lead to a handoff to "Accounting" so the refund process could be concluded during which - it was alleged - $299,999.99 was transferred to my banking account instead of $299.99. - also alleged the "error" was my responsibility. This immediately triggered Accounting to claim I had mistakenly transferred the incorrect amount and I had to "fix" the problem to avoid legal issues which included arrest.

During the conversation on a separate device - I determined in-realtime there were no funds transferred to my account as alleged. I confronted the caller and an argument ensued during which I was threatened with financial claims/arrest, The call was eventually terminated.

I immediately received an email from the "Better Business Bureau" with the subject "non-active warrant". The attachment included instructions to remedy the situation by calling the agency [530 380 5730] which I did and left a message [voice-to-text system].

The salient issues of the most interest/concern to the ScamPulse.com writ large, may include:

> through my questioning - the ScamPulse.com office identified was the 'Great West+Pacific Region';

> the person identified in the "non-active warrant" letter I received was "Michael SERIO, VP/COO";

> I have noted a staffer in the Great West+Pacific Region executive staff as "Michael SEDIO, VP/COO";

> appropriation of ScamPulse.com corporate identity

> misappropriation of ScamPulse.com staffer identity

This scam was very sophisticated in its detail and orchestration. The answers to my questions during the process where met with quick explanations - i.e.,

> "I am not seeing any funds transfer into my accounts through my bank app." 'That's because your device does not have access to the same server through which the transfer was made.'

> "Okay - I will log into my account through another computer to verify." 'It's not going to make a difference because a different computer will not have access to the same server.'

> "I think this is a scam ... I see my curser moving independently." 'No worries - the computer automatically prompts the cursor after a period of inactivity so the computer avoids the 'sleep mode' ...

I appreciate any efforts you can make to shut down this scheme/scam.

They said my card would be charged $299.99 for 1 yr. I tried calling the number listed on the email, then called my bank immediately.

They emailed stating that I would be billed $260 for services- unless I call to cancel.. when I called to cancel they wanted remote access to my laptop in order to cancel my subscription - when I said no that I was going to report them to the BBB- they hung up on me.

I had MCafee fix my computer and I had already paid for my 4 year subscription but then a guy called and he said he was asking for payment and the lady I spoke to earlier said I did not owe a payment. So this is a scam.

I have received several emails from McAfee over the last few weeks. Stated my contract was expiring and my computer would no longer be protected. Charging $499.99 to renew. McAfee order number 68546KDE896. I emailed them on September 29th that I do not want to renew. Then they sent another email. They charged my credit card $499.99. I called them at 888-232-6090. I spoke with Clayton today at 210-948-2982. Instructed me to go to Target and buy two $500 gift cards. I had given them my debit card number over the phone. They would put the money back into my account. I thought this is ridiculous and hung up. The email came from [email protected] I am going to contact my bank.

Sending me an invoice to an account I do not have through my Email

I received a letter from MCAFEE with the McAfee protection logo addressed to my deceased husband claiming that the will automatically renew the protection service and that if I wanted to continue I did not need to do anything. The letter looked odd as the text was right up against the left hand margin. I called the number above to ask what three devices were covered and to find out what credit card number they had on file for us. They asked me to open the laptop and type in a website: dcare.pro and they gave me a code and they wanted me to download a file. I did that for one person and she told me to wait for a supervisor. I got disconnected and called back and just ask the next operator to tell me which three devices were protected and what credit card number they had online for me. A friend heard the conversation, came in the room told them that with the order number they gave on the letter that they should have all of that information. Then he hung up on them and we deleted the downloads but saved one. I did enter the first code they gave me and did download: Support Client Setup. Client exe. I then went to my credit cards to see if anything had been charged and there were no charges on any card or checking account. If I do see a charge for that I will contact you again to help me resolve this. Please warn others. I am 70 years old and I guess an easy target for a scam.

From - order confirmation... Thank you for your purchase... Says I ordered a McAfee virus plus for $499.99 ! August 31, 2022.. Transaction #-151lggsf... Source-bank account... Order ref #-14.39.154 McAfee... Approval #-bgwbgg3eqmnrbhtau3ytb... And they listed their phone number as—1-888-5275-414 improperly... I did not order this!... I don't want this... They say I already paid for it, but I haven't seen the charge come off my card yet. They said I could call to get a refund, but I'm afraid to call that number ! Please help *****

Received a letter from McAfee saying my McAfee was automatically renewed. I do not have an account. When I called the numbers on the letter they stated no one available. Went to website and called the actual company and these numbers on the letter are not theirs and my order number was not theirs. They stated most likely a scam.

Received email stating I was charged $499.99 for McAfee renewal & to call 800 395-1006 to cancel. Upon calling that number, a refund form was required, then they had access to my checking account!

I received an email, on 15 July 2022, that said it was an invoice for the purchase of 4 years antivirus protection from McAfee for the amt of $299.79. Stated below was a phone # for a help line for "if you have any questions about this order." I had NOT ordered this product and thought may someone might have made a fraudulent purchase with one of our cc #s. Curiously, the invoice did not have my name or a date of purchase (only the date the email was sent). I had not yet seen a charge in that amt in either bank account or the credit card. I thought maybe it hadn't processed yet. So, I called to say I did not made such a purchase. They seemed polite and professional......are first. I explained I had not made such a purchase. They asked for my name. I told them they could look it up by order# or invoice# and then they would know. They asked if such-and-such (a nickname I use but would not buy with) was my name. I said yes. They said they needed to send a refund/cancellation form thru a screen sharing program to process the cancellation/refund. I'd used screen sharing before with techs I knew to troubleshoot and fix my computer in the past. So that wasn't that suspicious, though I was beginning to feel uncomfortable. The form presented had a large header that sported huge ScamPulse.com Rated A+ on top. It asked for standard stuff - name, address, phone # , Bank and type of account. I protested. That's when they started to act rudely, but insisted they were going to help. When I saw a browser tab come up for my bank they said I should log in. I said you've got to be kidding. HELL NO!! But I noticed that the other cursor on the screen was selecting things. I immediately disconnected my computer and shut it down. When I went to get on it later to get the software out of the computer, it was locked. I couldn't get in. I tried to call Microsoft. Ended up going to their troubleshooting menu online. When I followed the instructions it brought me to a dialog box to put in a password. None of mine worked. The pw hint: CALL ALEX 804 999 9941. When I called the number. I was back with the people that messed up my computer. They promised that would unlock it if I went thru the process. I hung up. Disconnected and turned off the computer and called our computer geek nephew. He told us how to do a factory reset. It will wipe the slate clean and lots of info will be lost. I'm thankful most of it was backed up on an external hard drive prior to this incident (a great, even necessary thing to do if you haven't already!)

I spoke with McAfee and they said they were already made aware of this and that ANY email they would send would be from (domain)@mcafee.com ONLY. And there official # is (866) 622-3911. [take note]

My computer is resetting as I write this. Hopefully it will be ok.

These people are brilliant, clever, even genius. Think what the world could be if their talents were used for good, caring, positive, giving endeavors! But, they are masquerading, viral and pernicious. May they be damned for what they do!

I realize now they surely wanted to help....help themselves to my personal info and financials.

Thank G*d, I lost no money or personal info!

Everyone BEWARE!!

I received an email this morning about a subscription for McAfee stating that my antivirus has expired and that an automatic subscription fee has been charged on my account. There wasn't any charge on my card and so I decided to call them and attempt to cancel my order of course, because I didn't think that I had ever subscribed to this, and my current antivirus is not McAfee. I called the number provided and it rung for a decent amount of time before someone with a heavy accent answered the phone and the first warning came when he pronounced McAfee wrong. I said, "Hi I would like to cancel my subscription and remove the fee from my card because I do not use this service." The man then said okay and proceeded to ask me to get a note card and write down some information that I needed to type into my laptop regarding my IP address. As soon as he said that I was highly suspect of what was going on and I said out loud "I think this is fake" and the guy said "What?? This is not fake trust me you are speaking to McAfee about your subscription charge please trust me this isn't fake" and then I knew it was fake and restated myself and he hung up on me. I believe he was trying to get me to give him some sort of information that would allow him to actually charge me for the $499.99 charge that I was supposedly being charged. I don't think that a real call would go like that and I'm definitely sure they wouldn't hang up on me after I stated that I thought it was fake. I will provide an image of the email that was sent to me with my name and email blurred out. It seems to be a decent fake and the account looks legit besides the email address that it was sent from.

I received a letter from McAfee. I am questioning the mailing. Charging my credit card $299.99. I don't have McAfee. When I called they asked for my credit card number. I said I'm not stupid. He hung up on me. The McAfee logo looks like it was copied.

Received invoice for $488, saying it had been deducted from my checking account. I called the number listed to cancel my subscription. They said they would refund the money and wanted to me to download some apps so they could return the money. They weren't able to the first try so they tried something else and apparently got into my phone and I was stupid enough to let go to my banking app while on the phone and they transferred $1000 through Zelle. They gave me names and badge numbers, etc, and even a help desk number. When notified by my bank about the transfer, I immediately called them and they began a fraud investigation and cancelled all cards, accounts, etc. that may have been compromised.
