Rough cut gemstones like citrine that is low in quality being sold for over a thousand dollars that is around 2 inches long by half an in wide. You find these low quality gemstones for 10 dollars at best at stores, the metaphysical shops will only sell these items for 30 dollars at best. So this is a matter of gouging and yes this is another scam too by preying on those who are niave and ignorant of what gemstone costs sell for.

They only take Zelle payments which I found strange.
You can't contact them via phone and there is no address for the "store".
After they get your money they pass you on to the shipper:
newjerseylogistics.org (.org ?)
The shipper claims your order is on hold and they need $300 to "insure" the delivery of your order. They also claim that after delivery they will return your $300.
I bailed at this point.
Repeated emails with them got me nowhere and I started to notice the bad English in their writing which alerted
me further.
Attempts to get refunded my money has them constantly telling me to contact the shipper.

There is a Contest in which people can design a free logo for Hochatown. Hochatown is local to the McCurtain County Broken Bow Area from which I was raised.
In the entry form it states that Hochatown will have all legal rights to the usage of the logo and no rights will be retained from the artist. The town can use the logo in anything it wants. (Merchandise, advertising, etc..)
I see no winning prize for this contest except "you get to say you made it" which is worth nothing as a fellow creator.
The creators have a Facebook group of which this was discussed. The said it was a donation on the artist part. That there is no prize other than a volunteering.
THE FACTS:
Hochatown in the past year alone has experienced a 145% increase in travel spending compared to 2019.
The Oklahoman.com says Some are witnessing it as "the next Branson Missouri". As well as the Choctaw Nation is set to break ground on a new resort hotel and casino this spring. $165 million
Quoted from Mitch McDaniel, a local business owner. "The tourism footprint in McCurtain County is at least $200 Million. It used to be a tenth of that"
The fact is that this is hochatown creating a brand identity for itself. Brands require artists that work over how itshould be Displayed/Advertised/Intriguing to the population. In time there will have to be a department dedicated to this exact need. This is NOT just a simple contest. No one is taking it seriously.
If someone enters (that is not me) I want them to be informed about that decision and for that person to be compensated.
They are saying that this contest is a donation.
If it was a true donation then it would be between the artist and the board instead of holding a contest where there is no end prize. That is the literal definition of a contest!
At the same time someone participating in this does not have to give their rights up for this. They can retain the property and still have it be the logo for Hochatown. Digital or actual. In the end since they own those writes of usage. It is owned by thetown. Theirs to put on merchandise. Theirs to advertise. Theirs to present. The artist? You get a pat on your back.
I called it a scam at first but let me revise myself. It's similar but a scam means it is a dishonest or illegal plan or activity, esp. one for making money. They were completely honest about not having any kind of compensation/prize.
So would this be considered Fraud?
In law, fraud is an intentional deception to secure unfair or unlawful gain, or to deprive a victim of a legal right. Fraud can violate civil law or criminal law, or it may cause no loss of money, property, or legal right but still be an element of another civil or criminal wrong.
Sincerely,
Concerned Graphic Designer
