Sunday, May 6th was a stressful night when a received a threatening phishing email in my main inbox of my student email account. The email was a threat stating they apparently hacked my front camera capturing video aka web cam on my PC (I own a Macbook) and apparently captured a video for black mail to be sent out to my contacts unless they receive 368 dollars in Bitcoin. If they don't receive the money they will forward the video to everyone on my contact list. After running MacKeeper's Antivirus Scan on my Macbook I was able to locate malware and viruses I must have accidentally and without knowledge downloaded or picked up from a pop-up or website. With the help of Mackeeper Live Support, I was able to destroy the malware and viruses, cleaned out adware, and they had me reset my Google Chrome browser back to default settings. I wanted to report this incident, because it is a phishing scheme that to some might seem real and they need to know to be aware of it and what to do. I advise to run your security software for your laptops and/or PC and be aware of malicious phishing emails and malware.
