Reporting a phone scam in Columbus, Ohio--

Yesterday my mom received a strange phone call from an apparent phone scammer. The man on the phone said he was from Publisher’s Clearing House, and my mother was the big winner. Supposedly, the team members were close by and wanted to come right over. FIRST, though, he had some questions for my mom

to answer. At that, luckily, my mom hung up the phone. I checked online about Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes and found that they never notify a winner by phone. This call sounds like a scam to me. I thought this serious enough to contact your office.

Just letting you know that the following is another scam:

Name: Mark Rogers, agent # 877800003, the phone number that calls is 876-892-1511 coming from: Kingston, Surrey County, Jamaica. They say they are a summer promotion affiliated with publishers Clearing House. They say to register for the $320,000 and a car that I need to wire $199.00 dollars. Thought you could put this out so other elderly don't get taken. Fortunately I looked it up before letting any money be sent.

Contacted on June 29, 2016 by text message from Dave @ 6823330377. Text stated I have won one million dollars and was directed to open a checking account and provide the information to caller. Caller texted that $299.00 fee could need to be paid in order to get the money. Texted back that my wife was going on kidney dialysis and that I would call today at 1:00 p.m.

I stated to caller that I was always told if I win something that I would not have to pay a dime. I checked with site of Publisher's Clearing house that they would not be calling by telephone. Caller explained that the information was the only information he had. Caller will be waiting for call back at 1:00 p.m. today, June 30, 2016 with bank account information.

Had a phone call saying they were publishers clearing house and that I won $2.5 million and $150,000 cash. They gave me a tracking # of 85994A38. Said they would be at my house in about an hour with a sheriff and an attorney.

I was to give them the tracking # and another number of #00015389571. Said I needed to go to Walmart and purchase a $385.00 pay pal card. When I get home with the card I needed to call Sharon James at 1-714-610-9724.

And say I was home with the card. I didn't purchase the card but called the number I was supossed to. It was a recording and barely understand the message. Then I called publishers clearing house and ScamPulse.com.

Received letter in the mail from Publisher's Clearing House dated June 1, 2016 stating I was a second place winner in the 100 Million Dollars Super Cash Giveaway Promotion sponsored by Readers Digest, Mega Millions and Multi-State Lottery Association. The amount to be claimed for my win is $2,500,000.000 ($2.5 million).

They also enclosed a check to cover insurance and attorney fees. The check was from Regal Distributing, Inc. based in Miami Gardens, FL.

The letter instructs me to call my Claims Manager at 416-837-3527 or 647-739-1684 before depositing the checks for further information on this prize.

Called 7:30 AM to my elderly mother-in-law claiming her husband had won the publishing clearing house sweepstakes and wanted to know if they wanted keep it quiet or allow them to go public. He asked if they had a checking account and if they were retired. She gave no bank info but did provide him their names. He left a phone number as my father in law was asleep and she was instructed to ask him about going public or not. She then called me and I did a reverse look up on the number and found it has happened to others also early in the morning. The number he left to get back in touch was 747-200-4370

A guy claiming to be Mr. Dan Sherman from Publisher Clearing House stating I have won $2.5 and a brand new BMW. Tried to get me to western union $700 to someone named Stephanie Spence in Jamcica, WI. As per the IRS requirements to receive the prizes.

I was contacted by a man calling from a phone # 1 (876) 296-1648 - JAMAICA # -  claiming to be "Johnny Green" a publishers clearing house representative saying I had won $2.5 million dollars and a bonus prize of $2,000 a week for life. He asked that I give $485 for a legalization fee that would be reimbursed to me, he said he would need that in order to approve and send the prize patrol to my residence. I informed him not I or anyone would be giving him any money without some form of documentation first. he continued to attempt to have me send money via western union regarding a legal fee needed by the state of Wisconsin to legalize the money I would have won. I told him absolutely not at which time he hung up on me. I called him back and it went to a voicemail that only said what number I was calling and not a business or anything identifying the owner of that number, I called back again and he answered this time identifying himself as PCH representative Mr. Green. I told him I was going to report him and asked for his supervisor or some kind of PCH number to call to confirm who he was. He told me at that time he had to go to the bathroom, I said then transfer me to another representative or I would call the authorities, he then began to insult me and became agitated and swearing and insulting me before hanging up.

I was called from a unknown phone # 1-876-459-4049 and was told that I was a winner from publisher clearing house. and that the call was being monitored by the federal gov. when i stated my concern about a scam or fraud the caller said that i did not want my money and hung up on me.

Won 8.5 million in the Publisher's Clearing house. They called and wanted all by banking information including routing numbers. When I would ask their name, I was told I would get something in the mail with the information. They called 5-6 times and I would not give them any of my information.

Phone call from Jamaica -identified origin phone number 876-801-5870, pretending to be a representative of Publisher's Clearinghouse. First call they used a caller ID block, but then called back and forgot to block their country of origin.

I rec'd a call from David Washington, 876-884-9354 about winning from Publishers Clearing House. He wanted me to send $350 to Michael Christman 40 East 300 St, Orangeville, UT. I know Publishers Clearing House does not operate this way so wanted to pass along the information I rec'd. I will not be sending money but you may want to check our the address or phone number.

my mother in Wisconsin received a call today-Saturday 3/12/16. She was told she had won $5 million, first a ups truck was going to deliver a large check for $5000 today with a representative to take her to the bank to deposit the 2nd check. She told them the bank was closed today, they said no problem just call 717 447-8664 in Harrisburg, Pa. Then they gave her a claim #RJ7_____. She was told they would then be able to wire the check to her bank. I tracked the phone # 717447-8664 to an address on chestnut st in Lewisburg Pa. 17044. the google satellite shows a delapidated store front next to a VFW POST #7011. So then I called the number that she was told to call, a man with a foreign accent answered. I asked where and how to send money to get my big check, He said western union- then paused and hung up. Thank you for giving us this site to report this.
