Unknown Reports & Reviews (1436)

I thought it was a family or friend calling seeing the area code was local. They went on blabbing about my credit card interest rates in lowering them. I told them I have no credit cards in my name and click they hung up. I registured my cell phone to the government national do not call list.

- Hartselle, AL, USA

Received multiple calls from 509-740-0308, ID showed "Out of Area". The message left was a computerized recording advising the reason for the call is because the IRS is filing a lawsuit against us and to call back the same # in the caller ID. Did not call back. Looked up # and other people have reported it as a scam. We blocked the number.

- Federal Way, WA, USA

Caller stated he could lower credit card interest rates. I asked what credit card company. He just repeated a list. Some of which I do not have accounts with. Then I asked for the last 4 digits of the account number. That is when he said about 5 totally unrecognizable words and then hung up on me.

Voicemail left on my phone 3 days in a row with no company name provided. It said something about receiving a refund for technical support because the company has been ordered to close down. The voice seemed very mechanical. It said to call the phone number immediately regarding the refund. I did not call them back. My tech support is with Best Buy/Geek Squad and I called them. They are not shutting down.

I no longer use the word "Yes" when being asked who I am because of a scam I saw in the news. So months ago these people would call me asking me, "Am I speaking to Mr. Loreto Martinez?" and I would reply, "How can I help you?". They were not satisfied with that answer and persisted in trying to make me say the word "Yes". I hung up on them when asked a 3rd time. After a few days of daily calls (at times twice a day) I just began to hang up on them when the caller I.D. showed their number. Nevertheless, they have continued to call my landline on a daily basis. Tonight was the last straw as they called very late. I do not know who they are or what they want. They just seem to want me to say the word "Yes". To record and use for purchases?

P.S. In the "Type of Scam" section there was no "Unknown" option so the "Debt Collections" selection is false.

Called by this number three times very early in the morning. When answered they said that they saw that I was looking for a job. Then asked what kind of job was I looking for. I said I'm not lookin Ng for a job and they hung up.

It was a pre recorded woman's voice. It sounded like a real person on the line.

- West Chicago, IL, USA

The caller wants to record you saying "yes." to their questions. When you don't respond with a "yes" they pretend they didn't hear you and repeat the question.

- Kansas City, KS, USA

Called saying i could get $8000 for free, when i asked them to send info in mail they hung up

Re. Phone Scam From 409-497-9485

I do not answer unknown phone callers; I waited until call ended, then blocked that number. I used spydialer.com, an online reverse phone lookup tool, to check owner of the telephone number. The reverse phone tool identified someone named Tom near Galveston Texas at that number. The voice messages said I had two (2) pending charges against me and if I did not act to take care of these charges, my local police would arrest me.

I use a California cell phone while visiting our farm in another state.

Received a robocall voicemail stating I was wanted on 4 serious allegations and that I had 24 working hours to return their call or I would be taken under custody by local cops.

- Conroe, TX, USA

I received a call on Saturday evening, Oct 28, 2017. A male caller asked me if this was "my name." Without thinking, I said "yes." He immediately responded "great" and hung up. I tried to call the number back and got a fast busy signal and then immediately the call was disconnected. Reports are that the recorded "yes" can be used to open accounts, and to try to prove they were authorized.

- Cherokee, OK, USA

A man called me and stated he was having a party and bought 18 pizzas and nobody showed up. He asked me if I would help him eat the pizza's. He kept stopping and saying "Is that a yes". I told him nice try and he hung up. Other people in my area are reporting the same strange phone calls.

Caller asked if I could hear them. Then started talking about older adults and the risk of falling.

- Houston, TX, USA

Tonight I received a call from the number (210) 245-5921. I thought I recognized the number and that's the only reason I answered it. The caller identified me and asked me twice if I was that person. I instinctively said yes twice thinking at this point that he was a customer of mine. He then proceeded to try to get me to donate money to some charity. I told him not to call again and hung up. I've heard of a scam where the telemarketers primary goal is to get you to say yes so that they can record it and use it to get you to unknowingly purchase something. I fear I may have fallen victim to this scam. Could you please advise me what I can do to protect myself at this point? Thank you.

A woman contacted me thinking she was calling back the original caller re: car warranties. I returned her call as she had left a voice mail. We were both confused as I had NOT called her and she verified my number in her phone logs. She freely gave me her name so if I proceed with any reports she could be reached.

- New Kensington, PA, USA

My phone number is being used in spoofing. I have reported it to the FCC. They are "selling" security systems from what I have been told. I have also been informed that there is currently nothing I can do about my phone number being spoofed. This seems to be a trend with 412-708 phone numbers.

- Lyons, OR, USA

Received a call on a Saturday evening about being late on a credit card bill. They were evasive when I asked what the charge was for, when I asked if it was my cell phone they said yes. I called my credit card to report the scam, they said there was a $137 charge for the Houston Zoo. The charge was removed and my credit card was cancelled. The caller knew my credit card number, home & cell phone number and address.

The message left on my phone was a man's voice, no name, stating I must return the call today. When I called the number back it was a woman, English speaking (no accent) claiming that I owed over $1000 but did not say for what debt or to what company I owed it to. She stated that they sent notification to my previous address and that I never responded. She also used things like my previous address, employer, and the last 4 SS #'s. All things that are relatively public knowledge but make the call sound legitimate. She said that I could resolve it voluntarily today or they would be filing felony theft charges with my states attorney's office because it was over $1000 dollars. If I chose not to resolve it they would file the charges and there would be a search and seizure warrant issued for me within 48 hours. No legitimate debt collector can have you arrested for non payment. They make it sound pretty convincing so beware.

- Blue Springs, MO, USA

I've received multiple phone calls from the numbers listed above. They are indicating that they can help with student loan repayment, but I've never had any student loans. They've been very aggressive and are calling me daily. I tried to call back to tell them to stop, but it is always a voice mail from someone named Mark Williams. I am trying to figure out how to get them to stop calling me.

- Rogers, AR, USA

This afternoon I received a recorded message on my phone that I was named in a lawsuit, and they gave this number for me to call to avoid legal action...484-986-2006. I didn't call back because I knew it was a scam, but wanted everyone else to be aware.
