Unknown Reports & Reviews (1447)

I received calls from this number about a discount on my Washington Gas bill. They ask for your account number. They know all of your pertinent public information, which gives the appearance of legitimacy. However, they are scammers.

- Naples, FL, USA

The scammer called from my home state area code (804) and left a message stating that they were my brother who I just had attempted to call. When I returned the call a woman answered, and I asked to speak to my brother. The caller stated, "This is your sister". I stated to the caller that I did not have a sister and added that she had 10 seconds to identify herself. She asked, "What are you going to do hang up?" I said, "Yes" and the scammer hung up immediately.

- Saint Joseph, MO, USA

Called and asked if I could hear them ok then hung up.

- Sylvania, GA, USA

Caller claims to be from US dept of grants and wants a $1000 doller western union sent to claim $9000. Caller sounded Arabic so the caller Id may be faked.

They called offering Auto Warranty Extension on a Vehicle I no longer own. When I informed them of that, I was hung up on. I tried to call back but you cannot talk to a human on callback. SCAM!!!

- Albuquerque, NM, USA

A recorded message was left stating that "The IRS is filling a legal warrant under my name for tax fraud. The IRS has been trying to contact me for the last 6 months and that an international fraud lawsuit has been filed against me" I did not return that call as instructed because it was an obvious scam.

I just had a phone call asking me "Is this Bob". I replied yes and they said "Thanks, I am just confirming your phone number " and hung up. Something doesn't sound right. I googled scams and it appears that all they want is me to say "yes" and then use that recording to have phoney invoices sent to me.

- Brooklyn, NY, USA

Received an account Alert from Sprint that my address or E-mail address had been changed. Contacted Sprint on line and discovered my original plan was changed and five additional phone lines had been added. Contacted Sprint by phone and reported the fraud of services. Each I phone was also given additional insurance charges, taxes and fees. The five phones have been recording phone calls and charges. My total new monthly bill for November was 448.33 dollars and not 47 dollars. My first contact with Sprint's Fraud division was on November 8, 2017.

Stated the interest rate on my credit card is going to expire unless I provide financial and personal information.

I asked which credit card company he was representing. He responded “I’m calling about your existing credit card”. I asked again and he hung up the phone.

She asked Can you hear me? Unfortunately I said yes and then she hung up.

- Grapevine, TX, USA

Hi, this phone call will be recorded. This is Katie. I understand you were in the market for a new car or new house. Can you hear me? Like a ***, i answered 'yes'

Now worried.

I thought it was a family or friend calling seeing the area code was local. They went on blabbing about my credit card interest rates in lowering them. I told them I have no credit cards in my name and click they hung up. I registured my cell phone to the government national do not call list.

- Hartselle, AL, USA

Received multiple calls from 509-740-0308, ID showed "Out of Area". The message left was a computerized recording advising the reason for the call is because the IRS is filing a lawsuit against us and to call back the same # in the caller ID. Did not call back. Looked up # and other people have reported it as a scam. We blocked the number.

- Federal Way, WA, USA

Caller stated he could lower credit card interest rates. I asked what credit card company. He just repeated a list. Some of which I do not have accounts with. Then I asked for the last 4 digits of the account number. That is when he said about 5 totally unrecognizable words and then hung up on me.

- Akron, OH, USA

Voicemail left on my phone 3 days in a row with no company name provided. It said something about receiving a refund for technical support because the company has been ordered to close down. The voice seemed very mechanical. It said to call the phone number immediately regarding the refund. I did not call them back. My tech support is with Best Buy/Geek Squad and I called them. They are not shutting down.

I no longer use the word "Yes" when being asked who I am because of a scam I saw in the news. So months ago these people would call me asking me, "Am I speaking to Mr. Loreto Martinez?" and I would reply, "How can I help you?". They were not satisfied with that answer and persisted in trying to make me say the word "Yes". I hung up on them when asked a 3rd time. After a few days of daily calls (at times twice a day) I just began to hang up on them when the caller I.D. showed their number. Nevertheless, they have continued to call my landline on a daily basis. Tonight was the last straw as they called very late. I do not know who they are or what they want. They just seem to want me to say the word "Yes". To record and use for purchases?

P.S. In the "Type of Scam" section there was no "Unknown" option so the "Debt Collections" selection is false.

- Santa Monica, CA, USA

Called by this number three times very early in the morning. When answered they said that they saw that I was looking for a job. Then asked what kind of job was I looking for. I said I'm not lookin Ng for a job and they hung up.

It was a pre recorded woman's voice. It sounded like a real person on the line.

- West Chicago, IL, USA

The caller wants to record you saying "yes." to their questions. When you don't respond with a "yes" they pretend they didn't hear you and repeat the question.

- Kansas City, KS, USA

Called saying i could get $8000 for free, when i asked them to send info in mail they hung up

- Altadena, CA, USA

Re. Phone Scam From 409-497-9485

I do not answer unknown phone callers; I waited until call ended, then blocked that number. I used spydialer.com, an online reverse phone lookup tool, to check owner of the telephone number. The reverse phone tool identified someone named Tom near Galveston Texas at that number. The voice messages said I had two (2) pending charges against me and if I did not act to take care of these charges, my local police would arrest me.

I use a California cell phone while visiting our farm in another state.
