I just wanted to warn people about a fraud call I received from people pretending to be from Amazon staff stating that someone had charged my account $399.00 from Dayton Ohio. They asked if I gave someone permission to use my account & did I know someone from there and I stated "no".

They stated this account was for my husband (they mentioned his name), but called my cell. They also ask for the last two numbers of the same # on the account, name & address, & I gave them that which was I assumed the last two of my husband’s ss #.

They ask if I was near my computer & they needed me to log there. I informed them I could assess my account through my Amazon app. He stated something about having to secured my account $ how I would be refunded the $399.00, but needed me to go to a computer or laptop. I told him I was driving & would not be near a computer for 45 minutes. He stated for me to drive safe. The person I spoke to was named Paul; he was very nice. I remembered that the noise in the background sounded like a call center. I call my brother's girlfriend & asked her if she has a computer or laptop I could use since I was on my way there. I told her what was going on she stated it may be a scam. I checked my bank accounts first & saw no pending purchases. Then I looked up Amazon's customer service # & realize the number I called was a 985 area code & not a 800/877 #. When I called Amazon & the last purchases they had on files was confirmed to be months ago. Since everything appeared ok, I started to see the red flags was there; #1 they needed to get on my computer or laptop & not my Amazon app.( not too bad b/c I know sometimes for tech reasons you may have to get in the computer rather than your phone) #2. I had to call 3-4 times initially to get someone because the the phone line kept dropping. I figured where I made the call that may be it could a bad connection. #3. They asked for my husband on my cell & they ask for the last two numbers of the # on the account. I spelt my name & gave my address.

I was so uptight about the call from alleged Amazon & the fact that I might have a fraud charge that I almost didn't pay attention to the details.

This is a copy of the message below. Pls do not use my personal contact info.

Received a call stating someone from Ohio had made a charge to my Amazon account for the amount of $700.

- Nashville, TN, USA

I just got a call from “Amazon” about my “order for 399$ in gift cards. If I did not order these, please press 1 to be connected to ....”

Prerecorded call

I received an email from a scammer posing as Amazon. My name was mispelled in the email. The email promted me to call a toll free number, 1-888-718-2151 about my account. Since I have had an amazon prime account, I gave them a call. The scammers insisted that I had opened a $50K line of credit with Amazon that I had failed to pay. The scammer threatened me. They knew my address and my childrens' names. I contacted ScamPulse.com and confirmed that this is a scam. Very scary.

I received a call about a charge to my Amazon account of "$1539 for an Apple McBook" which I'm assuming is supposed to be MacBook. The voicemail states if I press 1 no further action will be taken. I have had this number previously blocked for spam/scam activity.....and wanted to report this is a scam.

I have received several phone calls this morning from 3 different numbers. It is a robo call and they claim to be Amazon and state that my Amazon prime account is going to automatically renew. I do not have an Amazon prime account. They ask if you would like to speak to a Amazon prime account team member and when you choose a particular option the phone call ends.

I got a call from this number stating that this was Amazon. They reported a suspicious purchase on my Amazon account of an iPhone for $700, and to press one to connect with customer service alleviate the situation. I pressed one without thinking, and then a woman with a southeast Asian accent answered. At the same time, I checked my Amazon account and saw nothing was bought, so I hung up right away.

I have received calls about every 5-10 minutes for the last 3 hours from numbers starting with 866-705. It’s a recorded message claiming there’s a suspicious charge on my amazon account.

I got an email from Amazon to confirm a purchase of a $1883.00 Apple laptop, and the order was placed by a customer in TX. If I didn’t authorize it then to call a phone number at the bottom of the email. I called the number and the rep. helped me cancel the order, but wanted to sell me cyber ware to keep it from happening again. He instructed me to get remote control of my computer and to upgrade my windows 7-10 for $350. I paid thru PayPal. I didn’t get a confirmation from Amazon about the cancellation, so I felt something was wrong. I called Amazon, and they never sent the email. Then I called PayPal about the scam for a refund. I was transferred to another ext. (424) to get the refund. PayPal denied my claim. I kept trying to speak with a person. The person I spoke to stated that he was going to help me by transfer money by Cash app, Coinbase, and Gpay to be able to see if he could move the refund into my account. He told me to transfer $2000 from Zelle to Darnay66@gmail to help me get my refund, then he would put it back. That never happened. By the next morning my banking account was below $25. I called the bank to freeze the account and told them why. I had to close my account to stop the scammers.

Scammers pretending to be Amazon calling me to say there is fraudulent activity on my Amazon account

- San Antonio, TX, USA

I was going to order a book from Amazon. When I submitted my ID something popped up that I had an account and someone had put something on my account on Amazon for a rolex watch for $5000. I called that phone number and Mike Butler ID: MB24289 is the guy on the phone he called another guy from "USAA" named Alex. Then Alex said that I was charged for a porno site and needed to take action and clear the account. He told me I needed to go to HEB and buy gift cards so I bought one Nike gift card for $500. He kept telling me to trust him. I went to walmart and bought two $500 gift cards. I read him the numbers off the gift cards and he told me once we were finished he would take care of my account and everything will be resolved. We hung up after hours on the phone and it didn't sit right with me. I called USAA and spoke to a representative named Alex. I let him know everything that happened and they made a report and let me know that I was scammed.

I received a phone call from someone saying they were from Amazon security. They stated that someone was attempting to make a purchase for an IPhone 12 on my account. I hung up, they called from a different #. The first 2 numbers used were: (920) 905-1467 and (920) 905-7439.

They also called from a 3rd number and then sent an OTP code message. I asked for a call back number and they hung up. In the third call, they stated that the purchase was made in the amount of $800 and some dollars.

Received call claiming to be Amazon. It was a recorded message saying an order was placed for $1499.00 from an IPhone 11. It looks suspicious and they have placed a hold on the order.

Press 1 to speak to them.

I pressed 1 and an Indian sounding man spoke. He was in a room with many other people. I heard another guy in the room telling another victim the same charge they told me.

I asked for a phone number to call them back and the guy gave me a partial number.

I hung up, checked my Amazon accounts and my bank transactions.

Nothing happened.

This occurred 11/18/20 at approximately 2:10pm.

Scammer called my brother's wireless iphone, which showed the call was from "******* ****". This is not how my brother lists me in his contacts.

My brother answered the call, an automatic message said there was an Amazon purchase of $500+ on this number. He had option to confirm or deny by selecting #1. When he pressed 1, a Hispanic male voice said he was from Amazon. My brother said he wanted to cancel the order. The line was disconnected.

My brother and my wireless phones are on the same AT&T account. I reported this incident to AT&T wireless. AT&T said our account had not been accessed. I updated our pin on the account.

Received a call stating that there were questions about a fraudulent purchase of over $400 on my Amazon card. It asked me to press one to speak to a representative. I hung up.

I received an email saying that I had been charged a large amount on an Amazon.com purchase. It said to call a number in the email if I thought the charge was fraudulent. I did. (I later Googled Amazon's fraudulent purchase number and it was a different number.) After a lot of questions and instructions, I was told to buy a Best Buy or Target gift card. That was when I realized the whole thing, from email, to phone number, to instructions was a scam. I lost no money.

- Foresthill, CA, USA

I’ve received about 10 calls from different numbers claiming that my Amazon account has been fraudulently used to purchase an iPhone

Phone call with recorded message saying my account showed it had been illegally used by someone and to press 1 to talk to a rep. The rep had a strange accent and said something about setting up my account to prevent access by illegal types. I hung up, and searched the internet for info and one article described exactly what happened and to report it to the BBB.
