Consumer thought he was dealing with the IRS to get an EIN number. He was charged $289.00. His bank called noting possible fraud. He contacted the IRS and was told that, while the EIN number he received was a good number, they don't charge.

I was contacted by a so called man Mr. Deran Law about a interview with The IRS. I was hesitant to respond, so I looked him up via google and it showed his linked in page and that he worked for the IRS. I had applied for a job with the IRS about 2 months ago, The so called Mr. Law requested I fill out an short application in which I put my social security number on as well as a copy of my drivers license fron and back... When I googled him it looked to be legit so I trusted he was who he said he was... He later sent me a email giving me information for an upcoming Zoom interview for 3/25/2024. I then got another email asking for my ID.me information(password & ID number). I didn't send my ID. me information. I'm worried about my personal information being used, bank accounts, etc.
I then got very suspicious because I worked for the government for 9 years(Social Security Administration)and they don't do background checks via ID.me So he has my Social Security number and my a copy of my driver's license. I went back on googled and I kept searching and I saw several things about him being a fraud. I don't understand why it didn't pop up on my first search. I'm now worried and don't know what to do. I want to email him back and tell him I know he's a scammer, but I don't want to tip him off...I'm really upset.

US Internal Revenue Service?

What I don’t understand is how they received my email from Indeed unless it was a job I had applied to.

- Cottage Grove, MN, USA • Dec 14, 2023

I received an e-mail from someone claiming to be the IRS. The e-mail states that I am eligible to receive a tax refund of $976.

The Form that was mailed to our business looked very similar to those sent out by the Federal Government/IRS. Same font and format.

At the top of the form they used the name of our County office where we are located, but the seal was that of taxregistry.org instead of the official seal for our county courthouse. That was red flag #1.

We called our county treasurers office as well as the district court to find out if this tax lien was indeed credible. It was not, and no money was actually owed. We never called the number of the tax agency that was given on the form we received in the mail.

Received an email stating that the IRS had found an error in my taxes for 2023 and they needed to update some information.I don’t open anything in the email. Red flag was when the year was for 2023 which I have not even filed yet.

Was notified by someone claiming to be employee recruiter from IRS they sent me an application and asked me to return it with front and back of my iD and stated they will be sending me a zoom link however she asked me what is my password for ID.me after telling her that I will try to get it and not being able to I reached back out to her and she deleted her email account. Please don’t fall for this scam I’m so upset I provided my social security number now I have to report fraud on my account smh

I applied for a job with the IRS on Indeed and was contacted by Danielle Bethune-Bergeron she wanted forms of identification which include address, phone number, social security and picture of front and back of license. I sent it to her name at gmail.com. She stated she was a corporate recruiter from the IRS. When I sent the information via postal mail it came back undeliverable. I sent it twice and it came back both times.

I received a letter today for a Notice of Tax Lien on unpaid taxes ($99,902) filed in Sequatchie County by the IRS. The phone number to call is 1(888)977-3880 by 6/2/2023. There was a QR code to scan and set up an account at www.taxregistry.org. There was a PIN # 60275-210-7338 and a notice number 631169. The taxes included estimated penalties ($9,990) and estimated interest ($14,985). The letter was dated 5/19/2023.

Scammer tried to tell me that I had a Tax Evasion Lawsuit by the IRS

On Dec. 1st 2022, I googled "get EIN for business IRS" and the business webpage came on the top of the search results.

They copy the IRS list of questions and charged me $269 (I paid). Their webpage looks similar to the real IRS page.

Their email receipt stated that it takes a few days to get EIN, the business goal is to simplify applying for EIN (not true) and their fine print said that they are not associated with the IRS.

I then applied for EIN on the IRS site and received my EIN right away free of charge.

I emailed the business and requested a refund. They issued the refund.

I filed complaints with Washington state and California attorney general offices.

Not only the business charges money for the service they are not able to provide and which is free of charge, but the business collects a lot of personal information: SSN, address, name, business name and date of opening, credit card information.

Their website shows no adress, no names, only a phone number which belongs to California.

He tried to tell me that he was with the IRS and was gonna help me raise my social security check

I work for a doctors office and while the phone rings on our end, it tell the person calling the business name and that we will connect with you shortly. The number hung up before I could answer but i KNOW the IRS doens't make calls to anyone!

Stated an active warrant unless I call back and identify myself to stop the warrant, they called 5 times, here are the other #s

6202709925/2078641135/9852986199/5735570129. Hope you can stop them, very un-nerving!
