Internal Revenue Service IRS - IMPOSTER Reports & Reviews (1072)

We received a voicemail from a person claiming to represent the IRS and Treasury department. The voicemail informed:

" This is the Treasury Department . There is a lawsuit filed against you regarding tax efficiency [ yes they said tax efficiency!] and tax fraud. ignoring attention to this voicemail will be a second attempt to avoid Federal law. For further info immediately call back 843-300-1397"

I contacted the ScamPulse.com who confirmed that this is definitely a debt collection/ IRS imposter scam

A man who spoke very poor English told me that I owed money to the IRS and they were going to have me arrested if I didn't pay them.

- Blackstone, VA, USA

Received a called  and left a message saying with the IRS and would be arrested if didn't call back.

- East Greenbush, NY, USA

Told to call the number or I would be arrested in 24 hours for 4 allegations against me with the IRS

I received a call stating that I was going to be arrested as the IRS had been trying to reach me and I owed on taxes. My wife told me to hang up.

- Colonial Heights, VA, USA

The first part of the voicemail was lost because it was an automated message. The remainder said "... under custody by the local police as there are four serious allegations pressedon your name at this moment. We would request you to get back to us so that we can discuss about this case before taking any legal action against you. The number to reach us is 716-804-7647. Thank you" When I called back, they claimed to be the "IRS" when they answered. I then hung up on them.

On May 10, 2018, I got my new phone service from Charter/Spectrum after finally saying goodbye to Verizon. Within 1 and 1/2 to 2 weeks, I received two very intimidating phone calls ( one I answered , and the other I never answered, but let it go to voice mail). The first was from Tuscon, AZ ( 520-815-7167), and the second ( 978-453-0202). I have caller id. I have not checked the area codes to even see if they are real. I only answered the first one because I have an Army son who is all over this world and sometimes I never know where he is. All I said was "Hello".

. Both said that they were the IRS and a warrant had been issued for my arrest and I needed to call those numbers to clear up the problem. The voices sounded very stern.

I know they were a scam, because the IRS does not call people like that.

My concern is that I have quite elderly friends from church who probably be taken in with such scams.

I saw your article about Common Scams in the Summer issue of All About Seniors on page 26, that I just picked up from church today.

IRS Scam call, requesting money, threatening to arrest them.

- Caldwell, ID, USA

Left Message I have 4 serious charges pending against me I need to call with in 24 working hours or/and the local police would arrest me I called 1.716.304.9332 and spoke with him from my work phone. He asked if I was calling from the phone he called me on. I said yes but I wasn't I asked his name and I could not understand him. I then asked for his supervisor and he said I am employee 54471. I asked again and he hung up. 2 minutes later they called back. I was on line with BBB and did not answer. I still have 2 messages on my phone

- Kent, WA, USA

Robotic voice stating there was a warrant out for my arrest and to call a number immediately. I wasn't able to get the whole phone number down, but it started with I believe 202.503.XXXX. Had a friend fall for this a few months back and would like to see these people come to justice.

Leaves robotic automated messages several times every day stating that I am under investigation for fraud by the United States Government. Called the number back from another line and they answer the phone as the IRS, though they are clearly not.

On 06/4/18 at 1:30 p.m. I received a call while I was at work. The message said that I needed to call back immediately or the police would come within 24hours I did call back could not understand the man (very, very broken English) he was very threatening. Said his name was Devin Smith Badge # G5G59257 but, that's questionable since I couldn't understand. Got off the phone and called the police they said it was a scam also called the accountant they Said the same thing. Oh by the way the man said he was from the IRS. The call showed up as coming from New York the phone number is 646-396-8344.

Now is there anything that can be done to protect people from this. I am a ** year old female. I would appreciate a reply. I tried calling the phone Number for you but it said to go to the internet, not everyone has a computer or smart phone.

I am sending this info. To maybe help others

Thank you very much for your time

Claimed to be IRS and that he was going to call the police if I didn't follow instructions and pay him 3,868.

Then left message on a friends phone with recording of my voice.

- Fair Play, SC, USA

CALLER IDENTIFIED HERSELF AS IRS, STATED IF I DID NOT CALL THIS TELEPHONE NUMBER BACK, 202-489-0513, THE IRS WOULD BE COMING AFTER ME FOR TAX REASONS. THERE IS NO REASON FOR IRS TO CONTACT ME!

- Greenville, SC, USA

I get these calls every day. No one is on the other line, its a recorded message that says that the IRS has a warrant out for my arrest due to back taxes. I am 72 yrs old and do not pay taxes anymore. I know this to be a scam. The message doesn't say anything about money, but I know that if I call them back, they'll ask for money then.

Threatening, claims to be IRS requesting to meet at a street address nearby or warrant for arrest will be issued at end of call.

Message left on answering machine. In about 4 days the police will be contacting me because I have not paid my taxes. Did not return call.

- Conesus, NY, USA

The caller id said name unavailable Natalie Forbes stated she was from the IRS and we had 4 serious allegations pressed under our name and we would be arrested if we didn't call by 12:00 (noon) tomorrow

The following message was left on my machine...."This matter is a very serious emergency and time sensitive we are calling you from investigation team of I.R.S. We have just received a notification regarding your tax filings from the headquarters which will get expired in next 24 working hours and once it get expired after that you will be taken under custody by the local police as there are 4 serious allegations pressed on your name at this moment we would request you to get back to us so that we can discuss about this case before taking any legal action against you the number to reach us is 917-477-8002 I repeat 917-477-8002 thank you" I called the BBB and found it was a scam.

Phone caller (officer so & so) said he worked for IRS and that I had 4 legal allegations against me and would be arrested if I did not give him the info he was requesting including a credit card number etc to be used to get me out of this trouble. They are pathetically preying on the elderly.
