As it turns out, he wanted to take credit for my work. He started out by listing himself as a writer for the movie at IMDb soon after he thought of a title. He added me as a writer, but I was wary because I had seen nothing he had written and did not believe he deserved credit for writing the screenplay. He began to pitch this movie to as many people as possible, and got several actors and crew to work for free on a teaser that garnered even more attention. Again, this is strange because teasers/trailers usually come once a movie is finished. I could see that he was putting on a good show, but still, there was no screenplay (especially written by him). The more we talked the more I could see that he was doing nothing to learn about the film business, especially from the point of view of investors. This was not right, because a so-called producer should know the business in order to make a profit for investors, and return their money.
He wined and dined myself and many of his friends and new acquaintances during the year of 2011. As it turned out, he was spending the monies paid to him for a music video. By the time the musician came around asking about the video, Ramsey made a claim that too much time had passed and the funds were no longer available. The musician ate the cost, but chose to never work with him again. Because I saw no legitimate business going on, I cut ties with him after a few years. Thankfully, I never felt comfortable giving him anything I had written.
He got in touch with me again in 2019. Since we met, he had moved to Los Angeles from Atlanta, I believe to enmesh himself with the film industry, which is prevalent there. (This would make his scams more credible.) I decided to give him another chance, and if for no other reason, I could observe his scam in more detail this time. Once again, he would not make any legitimate offers or adhere to any laws. I have written even more for the film we discussed writing together so many years ago. I could not give him anything because I know the business better now, especially concerning copyright law.
He has since moved to another “project” and managed to convince another writer to come up with ten pages of a B movie “treatment.” Once again, he gave himself credit for writing even though he admitted to me that he did not write this treatment. His tactic is to promote these “projects,” while they’re “in development.” When the movie never happens, for the most part people write it off as a result of working in a tough industry, or they might assume the “project” is still “in development.” In the meantime, he can scam individuals to give him cash or even pay for his housing. His greater aspiration is to lure novice investors or other individuals with extra money. He has talked to me for years about how he thinks, and I cannot stay silent any longer. I have also lost time and money on him. Because there is no attempt to do legitimate business, Ramsey appears to live off of these scams. He is an able-bodied individual who could get a job.
