I was at work on a business call. I only answered my cell phone, because my daughter was at the dentist and thought it was her calling to let me know the outcome. I asked the caller to repeat their question but quickly realized it was a recording that starts as soon as you answer phone asking the following questions. This appears to be one of those scammers trying to receive an answer of "YES" to make purchases in your name:

1. Over 18?

2. Annual income of 40,000 or better?

3. Credit card to use for the vacation *

* As soon as I said "NO" in response to the 3rd question, the call was disconnected.

My mom recently had told about the "YES" scam after reading about it on FB, and they attempted to scam me today! I know better than to ever give any kind of personal/credit card information to anyone - no matter what!!!

asked if I could hear him. When I said yes, I realized what I had done, and hung up without getting name of business. No recent phone number was listed in my cell phone. No money was taken at this time, but I hear that they use your voice to accept purchases in the future.

- Jonesboro, AR, USA

At the beginning of the call, they ask "can you hear me?", trying to solicit a "yes" answer. I have read about this type of scam where they use you voice recording to authorize charges to credit card numbers that have already been stolen via a data breach. I have received this type of call many times before, as well.

6-12 phone calls a day to my home number trying to get me to call the number above. When you call, they try to convince you that your computer has a problem and they need to remotely take over your computer. Total scam. Also, sick of receiving so many scam phone calls. Please stop them!

- Green Valley, AZ, USA

When my husband was alive 3 years ago. He gave some company 450.00 to remotely fix our computer. After he passed they kept calling saying they had to get into my computer for a virus and updates. The said I had to get a flash drive and use someone else's computer to download stuff. So I paid them 250.00. And used my daughters laptop. When I put the flash drive in at home my computer never worked. So I gave it to my son, and I bought a brand new one. Changed all my passwords and etc. Well my son found out that company put a fake version of windows on it.

They call me about 7 times a day from all kinds of numbers. My daughter in Law, son and myself have told them we haven't got that computer anymore. Stop calling or we are going to report you. They don't care. I asked them to please refund my money. They said they needed access to my bank cause the don't use checks or money orders.

- Petaluma, CA, USA

- Montebello, CA, USA

The voice first acted like their headseat was not on and then proceeded to ask if I could hear them. They continued by telling me I won a trip to Orlando. I then hung up and blocked call.

- Boynton Beach, FL, USA

They call me several times a day with recording phone calls offering extended warranty for my car I already have extended warranty on my car, I actually sell extended warranties, I have a v ery long and comprenhensive one, they still say I dont have and keep calling EVERY DAY AND SEVERAL TIMES

- Pleasant View, TN, USA

I keep getting calls from this number with someone saying "I'm sorry, I'm having trouble with my headset, can you hear me now"? I have been warned that these people will try to trick you into saying yes, and that "yes" response can be used to charge things on your accounts. I want to let you know that it is happening here in Tennessee, and that people need to be warned not to say anything at all. They are very tricky at trying to get you to say "yes".

- Carmel, IN, USA

Caller called work phone, identified himself as Josh and asked if I could hear him. I replied "yes" and he began to describe the sweepstakes to which I then hung up the phone.

- Boynton Beach, FL, USA

They asked if I can hear them and I accidently said Yes and as I did realized about the phone scam. I am a senior citizen. What do I do.

- Norman, OK, USA

I got a call this morning from my local area code, and because I believed it to be from my doctor's office, I answered it. The caller said, "Hi, this is Emily from customer service. Can you hear me all right?" I answered "Yes". Immediately I remembered a channel 4 OKC story about this scam which tries to record you saying, "Yes", only I was too late. When I realized my mistake, I heard her say, "Congratulations, you have won a free cruise..." and I quickly hung up and called channel 4 and they referred me to BBB.

- Nashville, TN, USA

I keep getting calls from this number and when I answer they say "Can you hear me? I'm having trouble with my headset". I understand this has been reported as a scam, so I just wanted to report this phone number as a source of these calls so someone can try to get it shut down. When you dial the number back, you get an obviously faked garbled message saying "This survey has ended".

At 12:20 pm, on 03-01-17, I received a call (on my cell phone) asking if I was familiar with Publishers Clearing House. I said that I was. He told me that i had won $750,000 & a new F 150 pickup truck. He asked if I was aware of that. I said, "No. I'm still waiting for you to say something to convince me that this is not a scam." He then asked me if I was close to Lake Charles. I said, "If you don't know where I live, then you're probably calling from outside the country." He said, "Why would you say that?" Then, he called me a name, like Poppycock, & the call ended.

- Collierville, TN, USA

Pretty sure it was the scam where they ask "can you hear me?" becasue the whole thing was a recording. Even the part where they said, can you hear me.

- Burlingame, CA, USA

Received a call on my cell phone with the local area code. When I answered a man said this is Jeff and have won tickets to...At that point he asked if I could hear him.

I said no and hung up.

- North Little Rock, AR, USA

I received a phone call from a local area code. A woman's voice said "Hello." I said "Hello." She laughed and said "Hello" again, then "Sorry, I was having trouble with my headset." She proceeded to tell me that she was calling because I had stayed at one of their (did not specify whose) resorts in the past. She said that she was offering me an all-inclusive vacation package to Orlando Florida. She mentioned paying for all my meals and a cruise. Then she asked if she could first ask me a few questions. I responded with exactly this, "First, can you tell me which resort of yours I stayed in?" She said, "Sorry, I did not understand you. Can I ask you a few questions?" I realized she was pre-recorded and trying to get me to say yes. I repeated my question, which she ignored. She said, "Can I ask you a few questions?" I said, "No." Then the caller hung up.

I run a small museum. We just received a very suspicious call from a phone number that came up as a Las Vegas NV number (702-466-1550). They asked to speak to the business owner. I replied that I was the museum coordinator and we were owned by a historical society. Please note that many legitimate salesmen will ask to speak to the business owner when calling us so I was not yet put on high alert.

They then asked two more common questions but then immediately hung up with a "thank you" the moment I said the word yes. Those questions were: Is your address xxxx? Is your phone number xxxxxxxxx?

As a museum with a publicly available phone number we are often targeted by various scam emails and I have done some research into the various scam types circulating. This phone call seems likely to be something similar to the scam detailed in this article. http://www.omaha.com/money/this-phone-scam-just-needs-you-to-say-yes-hang/articl... />
Noticing the similarities immediately, I regret even responding to them at all.
