"Please listen carefully, for our options may have changed." and "Calls are recorded for quality assurance." -
followed by an audible "beep". It asked if I or a household member was 50 or over and switched to a message saying that I was eligible for a free personal medical alert system. When I declined to hear more. it switched to an offer for Direct TV. I declined and it switched to an offer for T Mobile, then something else, then a sweepstakes entry line. At that point I hung up. I believe the only info I gave them was that - yes, someone in my household was 50 or older. At first, it didn't seem unreasonable that a HIP medical plan would notify me of a good medical equipment, so I thought it could be legit. But, when they offered the other stuff, I realized that I reached a scam or multi party sales call center (I'm not sure what the difference is anyway) that was smart enough to realize that a lot of people would be misdialing the Anthem BCBS #. How clever; Anthem could eventually receive blame by for any resulting disappointed, mislead, possibly SCAMMED, customers. Can you do something about this?
I wonder if I had said "yes" to the first deal, what I would have received, if anything, and would it really be free. It makes me so mad.
Further, out of angry curiosity, I called this # several more times. I got the same offer, and would hang up. About the 4th or 5th time, the message changed.. It started by asking if I was born in 1920 (?!) or later. I paused and may have answered yes, maybe no. It asked "Is this your 1st call?' and then "If this is your second attempt, you will be blocked from calling our system." -I stopped at that.
This happened this morning Monday 05/22/17.
I also tried plugging 866-406-6131 into the peoplebyname website. I wasn't willing to pay for complete info, but they showed me a map with Dearing, Coffeyville, Niotaze, Havanna, Caney, HWY 166, and HWY 75 on it. It could have been a generic map for nonpaying customers, maybe. Another website told me this was an area in Kansas.
Boy, If they can be found and contacted, I would really love to hear they're explanation. (Even if it is disappointing B.S. claiming "We did nothing wrong and are a legitimate business providing valuable services, which are, sometimes miscomprehended blah, blah, blah....)
But really, this is, at best, misleading, opportunistic, and targeted. I really thought I reached Anthem- a company I already had an established relationship with - when the whole shpeel began- and I would have trusted them with things that I would not trust to an unknown telemarketer. No matter how cleverly done.. Shameful.
